37: Chapter 37 The Road Ahead is Uncertain
Steward Wu stepped into the Mine Cave with a calm demeanor; the darkness inside was as thick as ink.
Yet, to him, this heavy darkness seemed not to exist at all.
It did not hinder his vision in the slightest, and he did not even bother to take out a night-luminescent pearl.
Walking forward, he eventually reached a place that seemed like a dead end, where the path ahead was tightly blocked by a large pile of chaotic rubble.
Steward Wu showed no signs of panic; he simply raised his hands slowly and began to form hand seals.
As his fingers moved through the incantations, blue, red, and green spiritual light flowed from his palms like nimble spirits.
These three colors of light intertwined, and Steward Wu methodically controlled the spiritual energy to move the stones blocking the way.
The sounds made as the stones shifted were exceptionally clear in the silent Mine Cave, sometimes loud and sometimes soft.
At times, larger boulders would scrape and collide, emitting dull, heavy thuds.
Yun Song was pinned firmly beneath a massive boulder, every inch of his skin feeling as though it were being scorched by raging fire, the intense pain crashing over him like surging waves.
Just as he was about to give up, a faint sound of shifting stones drifted faintly toward him.
At first, the sound seemed to come from a vast distance, like muffled thunder rolling across the horizon, dull and indistinct.
Yun Song's heart, which had already fallen into a state of deathly silence, tightened abruptly; filled with fear, he assumed it was another round of rock collapse, and the shadow of death instantly enveloped him.
However, as the sound gradually became clearer, moving from far to near, the rhythmic shifting seemed to carry a sense of vitality.
Within Yun Song's mind, which was clouded in Chaos, a faint glimmer of hope quietly ignited, like a firefly struggling to flicker in the darkness.
He endured the intense pain surging through his body like a tide, not daring to move even slightly, fearing that any minute motion might cause the massive boulder above him to press down even harder.
He waited quietly, the wait feeling as long as a century, and although the spark of hope in his heart was weak, it continued to flicker tenaciously.
Not long after, a much clearer sound of shifting stones arrived, followed immediately by a gentle, three-colored spiritual light that pierced the darkness and shone upon Yun Song's face, which was covered in dust and sweat.
Several gashes from the rocks were visible on his face, with dried blood scabs clinging to the wounds, appearing exceptionally shocking to behold.
At this moment, his eyes were bloodshot from being trapped for so long, yet the instant he saw the light, they welled up with moisture.
Steward Wu appeared before him, his expression calm, his gaze filled with both concern and scrutiny.
The three-colored spiritual light swirled around him, as if coating him in a mysterious and majestic halo.
His hands continued to control the spiritual energy methodically, gently moving the last few stones pinning Yun Song down, his movements precise and careful, fearing that he might cause secondary injuries to Yun Song.
Yun Song looked at Steward Wu before him, his cracked lips trembling slightly.
Turbid tears slid down his cheeks, carving two clear tracks through the dust on his face.
His eyes were filled with gratitude and the relief of having survived a disaster, as if he had grasped the final straw of hope in his life.
Using every ounce of his remaining strength, he gripped Steward Wu's sleeve tightly, the force as if he intended to deeply brand this gratitude into the fabric.
Seeing this, Steward Wu consoled him softly, "Don't speak; hold on, I will take you out immediately."
Having said that, his hands emitted an even brighter spiritual light, which enveloped Yun Song as he lifted him completely from beneath the rocks.
Without hesitation, Steward Wu held Yun Song firmly and turned to stride toward the exit of the cave.
The interior of the cave was rugged, with chaotic rocks lying across the path like monsters, blocking the way forward.
Steward Wu's expression remained composed; with spiritual energy protecting his body, the three-colored light tore through the darkness.
Rubble fell from the cave ceiling with a rustling sound; Steward Wu's gaze was like lightning as he looked up and waved his hand, releasing spiritual energy to blast away the falling rocks.
After enduring the difficulties, Steward Wu stepped out of the cave entrance, where sunlight poured down.
The blinding sunlight poured down without reservation, making it difficult for Yun Song to open his eyes.
He subconsciously moved his foot, and a piercing, excruciating pain struck him instantly.
It caused him to gasp, his features contorting tightly from the agony.
Steward Wu looked down at Yun Song and, upon seeing the shocking injury on his foot, furrowed his brows tightly.
Before Yun Song could speak, Steward Wu's spiritual energy was already surging like a tumultuous tide, and with a tap of his right hand against his waist, he summoned a long sword.
