68: Chapter 68 Unveiling the Poisonous Plot
"Hmm!"
Yun Song responded with a grunt.
Pretending to obey, he took a swift stride and rushed toward the old Daoist.
The old Daoist was already suspicious, but he had not expected Yun Song to suddenly launch an attack.
Before he could react, Yun Song was already upon him.
"Pfft."
He kicked the old Daoist in the abdomen with his right foot.
The old Daoist's body flew sideways like a kite with a broken string.
He crashed heavily several yards away, kicking up a cloud of dust.
He stumbled to his feet; his originally murky eyes were now wide with rage, filled with anger and resentment.
"Kid, I have painstakingly treated these villagers, yet you dare to strike me down like this?"
Yun Song sneered, his eyes full of disdain.
"Some money can be earned, and some cannot. Do you not understand this principle?"
The old Daoist gritted his teeth, still desperately arguing.
"They are merely rustic villagers. I give them medicine to relieve their pain, and collecting some remuneration is only right and proper! If it weren't for me, they would have long since died from their illnesses. Doesn't this count as doing good?"
Several villagers looked on with expressions of intolerance.
One of the elders walked forward, trembling.
"Young man, you might have misunderstood. The Divine Doctor has always been dedicated. If it weren't for him, our illnesses would never have healed."
A middle-aged woman nearby also hurriedly chimed in.
"That's right! We were in so much pain when the illness struck; if it weren't for his medicine, how could we have held on until now?"
Yun Song couldn't help but rebuke them angrily.
"Utterly ridiculous! To amass wealth, he poisoned the well, intentionally keeping you plagued by illness, only to sell you medicine for profit. You call this doing good?"
"A true healer should take saving lives and healing the wounded as their duty, yet he has treated you all as cash cows!"
The old Daoist's eyes instantly became panicked, and he roared in shame and anger.
"Where is the proof! You want to frame me without any evidence? You are clearly just coveting my source of income!"
Yun Song laughed in extreme anger, saying word by word.
"Man proposes, Heaven disposes! Today, I will see justice done for you all and eradicate a scumbag like you! Money earned by harming others for one's own benefit will surely invite Heaven's retribution!"
The old Daoist wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, stamped his feet in resentment, and assumed a posture of fighting for his life.
Yun Song's expression turned grave as he stepped forward twice; this distance was exactly within range to unleash Gale Leg.
At this moment, the old Daoist's right hand slowly reached into his pocket to retrieve an item, while his left hand feigned reaching for the medicine bottle at his waist, making it look like he was about to throw poisonous powder to induce a Divided Soul in Yun Song.
Just as a corner of a yellow talisman paper was revealed, Yun Song secretly realized something was wrong. Striking first to gain the advantage, he unleashed Gale Leg and kicked the old Daoist hard in the abdomen.
"Bang!"
After a muffled thud, the old Daoist flew three yards away like a kite with a broken string, spitting blood wildly, splattering the bluestone slabs with spots of crimson.
Yun Song pressed his advantage, lunged forward, and stepped heavily onto the old Daoist's chest.
Accompanying a crisp sound of ribs breaking, the old Daoist struggled a few times before ceasing to breathe.
Everyone was dumbfounded.
The "Divine Doctor," who had just been eloquent and silver-tongued, had turned into a cold corpse in the blink of an eye.
The fluttering spiritual talisman was caught steadily by Yun Song.
He saw the character "Fix" in the center of the three-colored talisman script, exuding a mysterious Aura. He carefully tucked the talisman into his pocket, but his peripheral vision caught a coarse cloth bag that had rolled off beside the old Daoist's corpse; it seemed to contain quite a few pills and a yellowed booklet.
Just then, Gouzi's mother led a group of villagers, brandishing hoes and shoulder poles, and stormed into the courtyard aggressively.
The sounds of fighting in the courtyard earlier had alerted the whole village. Someone at the entrance of the village had exaggerated, shouting, "The outsider has beaten the Divine Doctor to death!" which led everyone to grab their tools and rush over.
Yun Song's heart tightened. Facing the villagers' vigilant gazes, he explained loudly.
"This old Daoist is the culprit who poisoned you! He used poison to control you just to amass wealth!"
But the villagers only looked at him and the corpse on the ground with suspicion.
They gripped their farm tools even tighter, the crisp clatter of hoes colliding sounding particularly harsh in the silent courtyard.
Yun Song shook his head and said.
"It doesn't matter if you don't believe me. I will go to the kitchen right now and retrieve those poisonous herbs to prove it to you."
After saying this, he turned and walked toward the kitchen. His footsteps on the bluestone slabs shattered the suffocating silence, while he calculated in his mind how to make these deluded villagers see the truth clearly in a moment.
