64: Chapter 64 Instantly Kills Six People
"Hmph, enough talk! Your glib tongue won't save you. Hand over the parcel, and I will leave your corpse intact!"
A chilling voice came from beneath the mask of the lead man in black, his eyes glinting with a fierce light through the gap in his hood.
Before the words had even faded, a flash of cold light appeared; a long saber, carrying bone-chilling killing intent, tore through the air, its sharp wind creating a piercing whistle in the snowy night.
Yun Song hastily raised his hand to block. Ice shards grazed his cheek, leaving faint scratches, while his lower leg was struck painfully by gravel kicked up by the warhorse's hooves.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the other five men in black draw their sabers simultaneously. The six long sabers glinted with a grim, cold light reflected by the snow.
He suppressed the frantic fluttering in his heart and pretended to be relaxed, saying with a smile: "Good sirs, there are only some old clothes in the bag..."
"Noisy!"
The man in black yanked his reins, and the warhorse neighed as it charged forward.
Yun Song stumbled backward, watching the opponent's greedy gaze locked firmly onto the large tree behind him, knowing that his delaying tactic had reached its limit.
He moved slowly toward the back of the tree, crouching down to brush away the snow. The moment his fingertips touched the parcel, his palms were already slick with cold sweat.
He pulled a Secret Manual for the Fireball Technique—exchanged for with contribution points—out of the bundle and took a spirit talisman from his bosom to place under the Fireball Technique.
He used his mining hoe to lift the parcel, his right hand gripping the Fireball Technique tightly. Beneath his outwardly calm stride, his heart was nearly pounding out of his chest.
When he was only a Zhang away from the men in black, he held the Secret Manual high and waved it: "Is this the immortal technique you all have been pursuing so desperately?"
The lead man in black's pupils constricted, and he reached out impatiently to grab it.
Yun Song flicked his wrist sharply, and the Fireball Technique and the hidden spirit talisman shot out simultaneously.
As soon as the Black-robed man's palm touched the Fireball Technique, the spirit talisman pressed beneath it detonated with a roar!
"Oh no! Retreat quickly!"
The man in black shrieked, frantically trying to turn and flee, but it was already a step too late.
The instant the spirit talisman exploded, flames interwoven with blue and red burst forth, unfolding in mid-air like a peacock spreading its tail, sweeping over everything like a tidal wave.
The searing, condensed fire feathers rolled through the air, tracing eerie and lethal arcs. Wherever they passed, the falling snow didn't even have the chance to touch them; as soon as it got close, it instantly evaporated into wisps of blue smoke, not even leaving a trace of vapor behind.
Those seemingly light and drifting fire feathers, though gentle in their descent, were extremely vicious. Once they touched the corner of a man in black's robe, they spread wildly like gangrene, instantly erupting into a towering sea of fire that engulfed everyone in flames.
"No!" he shrieked in despair, his heart filled with endless panic, "I... I don't want to die!"
The first man in black to be hit screamed as he tried to beat out the flames.
But the flames grew wildly along his sleeves, and the terrified warhorse bolted, carrying its burning master away.
The other men in black frantically spurred their horses to escape, but the flames chased and devoured them like living creatures.
"This...! What kind of Demonic Technique is this!"
Piercing wails echoed in the snowy valley.
Six fire-horses carried their burning riders as they scattered, dragging six winding trails of fire across the snow.
Yun Song covered his nose and mouth, the foul stench of scorched flesh mixed with waves of heat rushing toward him.
The cold wind, carrying the scent of blood, swept past his ears. Yun Song looked at the six curled-up charred corpses, but no expected satisfaction welled up in his heart.
He tightened his collar and looked at the mountain path faintly visible in the distance with a bitter smile.
From the moment he left Nanyue City, he had already been targeted.
"It seems I cannot return directly to the village." Yun Song muttered to himself, his gaze sweeping over his surroundings.
As twilight deepened and snow particles rustled against his shoulders, he took one last look at the battlefield where the fire had not yet died out, then turned and vanished into the darkness.
Amidst the howling cold wind, he finally found a hidden cave shielded by withered vines within the mountain wall, obscured by tangled branches.
