70: Chapter 70 Mysterious Orb of Light

After solving the water usage problem, the villagers gathered again at the village entrance square.

The sun hung high, and shiny silver ingots covered the wooden table, gleaming dazzlingly in the sunlight; these were all the ill-gotten gains extorted by the wicked Daoist over many years.

The white-haired Clan Chief leaned on a jujube wood cane and walked tremblingly to the table: "This silver was originally everyone's hard-earned money."

"If we divide it equally per capita, does anyone have any objections?"

"No, let us follow the Clan Chief's wishes..."

A uniform chorus of agreement erupted from the crowd.

Several sturdy men took the initiative to step forward, counting the money while calling out loudly: "Five people in Old Li's family, five shares!"

Uncle Li rubbed his rough palms together and smiled honestly: "All these years, we were bled dry by that wicked Daoist, but today we finally see our money return! It's all thanks to this young hero!"

Auntie Zhang wiped away her tears and chimed in: "Indeed! If it weren't for the young hero, we would still be kept in the dark!"

Yun Song watched the worried expressions on the villagers' faces relax, and the heavy stone in his heart finally fell.

He cupped his hands, bowed, and said loudly: "The green mountains remain unchanged, and the green waters flow on; let us part ways here!"

"Being able to help everyone is my good fortune!"

Just as he turned to leave, a deafening shout rang out from behind him: "Thank you, young hero! Thank you, young hero!"

At the very moment this roar reached the sky, a strange transformation quietly occurred.

Wisps of white light, as thin as gossamer, rose from above the villagers' heads. The faint light intertwined and gathered in the air, condensing into an orb of light the size of a thumb.

Yun Song heard the sound and turned back, just in time to see the orb of light shooting toward him like a meteor.

He dodged repeatedly, but the orb of light followed him relentlessly like a maggot on a bone.

In the end, the orb of light went straight into his brow. A fine, tingling sensation spread across his crown, but it vanished in an instant.

Filled with confusion, Yun Song set out on his journey home.

The old locust tree in Anlan Village sprouted new buds, swaying gently in the spring breeze.

Children chased and played in the open space, colorful kites swept across the sky, and laughter echoed throughout the village.

In front of the mottled wooden house at the village entrance, the Clan Chief stood on tiptoe, trying to hang a newly made kite on the eaves.

Yun Song stepped forward quickly: "Clan Chief, let me do it!" As he took the kite, his fingertips touched the Clan Chief's calloused palms.

"Child, why are you back so soon?" The Clan Chief's cloudy eyes were filled with concern.

"I couldn't stay at The Mine any longer," Yun Song answered truthfully.

The Clan Chief patted his shoulder: "It's good that you're back; this will always be your home."

Speaking, the Clan Chief pulled him into the house and poured a cup of steaming coarse tea: "Did you encounter any difficulties at The Mine?"

"Just some unreasonable people. But I gained some experience, and I even learned some medical skills."

The Clan Chief's eyes lit up: "That's great! Our village is in desperate need of a doctor! As it happens, the boy at Erzhu's house has a high fever that won't go down, and medicine hasn't helped. You should go take a look!"

The two of them hurried to Erzhu's house.

The small room was crowded with people. Erzhu and his wife stood guard by the bed, their red-rimmed eyes filled with tears.

Yun Song pushed through the crowd, his gaze falling on the child on the bed, whose face was flushed red from fever. His expression turned instantly grave: "Clan Chief, let me check the pulse first."

Yun Song walked quickly to the bedside and saw that the child's face was flushed, his eyes tightly closed, and he was muttering in his sleep from time to time, his forehead burning hot.

He frowned deeply, secretly pondering in his heart that this symptom seemed to be poisoning from some kind of wildflower.

He carefully observed the child's tongue coating and found it to be yellow and greasy, further confirming his judgment.

While pondering a solution, Yun Song spoke to comfort Erzhu and his wife.

"Brother Erzhu, Sister-in-law, don't worry yet; the child's condition is not life-threatening."

"He has been poisoned; he must have come into contact with some special plant."

"Think carefully: where did the child go before getting sick, and what did he touch?"
