25: Lex Corporation!
Demons don't come from the hell beneath our feet; they come from the sky!
...Metropolis!
Inside a restaurant with American-style architecture in Metropolis, as the long, drawn-out music played, Li An sat by a window, slowly cutting a medium-rare steak with his knife and fork, then bringing a piece of beef to his mouth with his fork.
He had left Smallville and arrived in Metropolis last night. Originally, he didn't have money to eat at a restaurant, but luckily, a few dim-witted thugs had approached him, thinking he was an easy target to extort. Instead, Li An smilingly relieved them of their money, leaving them with bruised faces.
Of course, Li An wasn't a bloodthirsty person; he didn't choose to kill or devour those thugs.
Besides, those thugs were just ordinary people, and devouring them wouldn't have any effect on him, in fact, it would be a complete waste of effort, so there was no need to waste time.
"The Pacific Ocean, huh?"
Chewing his food, Li An's attention was drawn to the view outside the window. Beyond the restaurant, there was a pristine beach with crystal-clear water.
On the beach, there were beautiful women in bikinis, handsome men with fit and graceful physiques, and groups of adults playing with children.
However, at this moment, Li An's gaze seemed to bypass all of this. He looked towards the distant horizon where waves continuously crashed, lost in thought.
Li An came to Metropolis not for leisure, but because he needed to achieve certain goals here, and then use them to help him find something. That something was the key to whether he could defeat Superman, and even all Kryptonians!
kryptonite!
For Kryptonians, who gain power from solar energy, they are not invincible. Heaven is fair; while granting immense power, it also leaves a flaw, a weakness, indicating that there is no true perfection in the world.
And kryptonite is that imperfection of Kryptonians!
In other words, kryptonite is the weakness of Kryptonians!
Originally, in the world of 'Man of Steel,' the existence of kryptonite had not yet been discovered by humans. But Li An had seen that movie, and even its sequel.
This meant Li An already knew Superman's weakness and how he could create an advantage for himself.
In the original story, kryptonite was discovered a year after the Battle of Metropolis, when an employee of LexCorp cracked open a rock in the Indian Ocean, revealing the kryptonite inside.
But at present, Li An couldn't wait a year for its appearance. From the mission briefing, he understood that Zod would soon arrive on Earth. If Zod and Superman were to fight, without kryptonite, he would be no match for Superman or Zod.
The genetic makeup of Kryptonians is truly incomprehensible; their terrifying power comes entirely from the sun. If it weren't for the existence of kryptonite, Li An couldn't imagine anything else that could counteract Kryptonians.
"Since that stuff was found by LexCorp's people in the original story, then now, let them find the kryptonite for me too."
Looking at the handsome men and beautiful women laughing and playing outside the window, Li An slightly turned his head and looked at an advertisement posted on the beach. It clearly stated that LexCorp was recruiting specialized personnel!
Metropolis · LexCorp Headquarters!
Li An found the location based on the advertisement he had seen earlier. Then, guided by a security guard, Li An entered the building through a side entrance and eventually arrived at the Human Resources Department on the seventh floor.
It must be said that as the headquarters of LexCorp, this building occupied an incredibly vast area, and it boasted as many as twenty-eight floors, making it one of Metropolis's iconic landmarks.
"Hey, do you know what kind of specialized talent Lex is recruiting this time?"
"No idea!"
"Everyone here must be applying, right? I wonder how many people they're hiring this time."
"I heard that the person at the very top is recruiting this time. We're only in the first round of interviews here."
...As Li An arrived, the sound of conversations from the queue in the hallway immediately reached his ears, making him raise an eyebrow.
If he wasn't mistaken, the "person at the very top" he just heard about should be Lex Luthor.
"I didn't expect him to be recruiting this time."
After understanding what was going on, Li An murmured to himself.
Immediately after, Li An had an idea. If Luthor was truly recruiting this time, then he wouldn't need to go through the usual process; he planned to go big.
Thinking this, Li An's eyes gradually brightened.
The next second.
"Come on, everyone, move aside, move aside."
"I'm definitely going to be chosen this time; you can all get lost."
Li An casually pushed aside the burly men queuing in the hallway, his tone incredibly arrogant and overbearing.
Bang bang bang!
"Ouch, who was that?"
"Damn it, who's pushing me?"
"Bastard, who's so crazy?"
Although Li An only exerted a casual force, his current attribute values were far beyond what they used to be, no longer comparable to ordinary people. So, even with just a fraction of his strength, the seemingly robust men in the hallway couldn't withstand it and were sent crashing into the walls on both sides, groaning in pain.
Crack crack crack!
"What's wrong?"
"I said you can all get lost. Does anyone have an objection?"
Seeing that this group of people still seemed to want to challenge him, Li An was too lazy to waste any more words. He directly lifted a burly man, weighing at least two hundred pounds, with one hand.
Although Li An didn't speak at this moment, an invisible sense of oppression surged from him. He stared at the people in the hallway with cold eyes. Everyone felt the air temperature suddenly drop, a chill rushing from the soles of their feet to the top of their heads. Instantly, the wails in the hallway ceased, and everyone looked at Li An with expressions of terror.
"Get out!"
Looking at the people he had scared stiff, Li An casually threw the burly man in his hand, causing a loud crash, and then spoke to the motionless crowd.
Whoosh!
The thud of the burly man hitting the ground finally roused the stunned crowd. They all reacted, their legs trembling as they ran towards the elevator. Some of the slower ones even changed direction and rushed towards the emergency exit, clearly intending to take the stairs.
