4: Ways to gain strength

In the quiet alley, several Hunters gradually calmed down.

Facing Alex Mercer, who was fully unleashing his aura, even the fierce, brutal, and mindless Hunters instinctively felt fear; it was the natural fear of a subordinate towards a superior!

And that was correct, after all, this was Alex Mercer, the man at the top of the food chain!

Finally, Alex Mercer was the first to break the silence. He frowned and looked at Li An with an unfriendly gaze.

"Asian?"

A trace of surprise appeared on Alex Mercer's face. Not long ago, he had destroyed several large Evolved nests, absorbing a massive amount of energy points, which significantly boosted his strength in a short period. It was this enhancement that made his perception of energy increasingly sensitive. The reason he came here was precisely because he sensed a presence that intrigued him.

Roar!

Just as Alex Mercer wondered if the energy source he sensed was the Asian in front of him, the Hunters scattered throughout the alley suddenly became agitated. They had been firmly suppressed by Alex Mercer's aura, but now they subtly showed signs of attacking.

"Hmph!"

"A bunch of monsters, so noisy!!!"

Immediately, Alex Mercer's attention was drawn to the group of Hunters, and he turned to charge at the Hunters surrounding him.

As for Li An, he was temporarily ignored. After all, in Alex Mercer's perception, this Asian was just a slightly strong ordinary person. Since he was an ordinary person, he could be dealt with at any time, with no need to rush.

Boom!

The next second, a violent collision sound immediately rang out, and a new round of battle erupted.

Li An looked at Alex Mercer, who had drawn all the Hunters into the fight, and his face became incredibly grim. He hadn't expected to meet the protagonist of this world so soon.

At this moment, Li An did not feel the joy of being saved; instead, his mood sank even deeper. He clearly felt a strong killing intent from Alex Mercer's eyes just now, and there was no mistake about it. This meant that the other party was also here to deal with him.

The current fight between Alex Mercer and the Hunters was entirely due to the subordinates provoking the superior, and the superior acting to assert his authority!

"No!"

"Escape! I must escape!"

Li An immediately recognized his current situation. He first glanced at Alex Mercer, who was still entangled with the Hunters, then turned and ran in the opposite direction without looking back. Even if he were to die, he would not sit idly by. He firmly believed that his life must be decided by himself.

However, what Li An didn't expect was that although Alex Mercer was still fighting the Hunters, he always kept his attention on Li An. When Alex Mercer saw Li An running away, he immediately sped up his movements.

The tendril-like claws, under the burst of Alex Mercer's immense power, directly pierced into the heads of the two Hunters in front of him. Then, as Alex Mercer's two claws writhed, the two Hunters immediately fell to the ground, Death, and their energy was completely absorbed by Alex Mercer.

Bang!

The next second, Alex Mercer ignored the remaining Hunters around him, leaped directly into the air, and then glided and flew, chasing straight in the direction Li An had fled.

Pant ~

Short, hurried breaths kept sounding. Li An quickly passed through the alley in front of him. While Alex Mercer was still fighting the Hunters, he immediately rushed towards a densely populated area.

As a former player, he knew very well where Alex Mercer's weaknesses lay. Although Alex Mercer had Viral Vision, capable of distinguishing his target in a crowd at a glance, that was a specialized ability against the Infected. As an ordinary person, Alex Mercer could only search for him one by one with his naked eyes, which gave him a chance to breathe.

"No, if this continues, I will surely die, I will surely die."

"I must gain powerful strength. Infecting with Blacklight is my only way to survive!"

"But Blacklight has too many uncontrollable factors. I need a guarantee, an insurance."

While contemplating, Li An finally crossed several streets before Alex Mercer caught up, hiding himself in the crowd. Li An also carefully snatched a jacket and put it on to confuse Alex Mercer's vision.

But even so, Li An still didn't feel safe. Although Alex Mercer wouldn't casually attack civilians, the Hunters would! To temporarily ensure his safety, he immediately turned his attention to a heavily guarded place not far away.

That place was a Blackwatch outpost!

Just like in the game, civilians could freely pass in front of Blackwatch outposts, unless it was an area blocked by stone barriers, which were military exclusion zones.

"Cough cough cough..."

Li An pretended to be sick, tightly wrapped his clothes around himself, and then leaned against the outpost entrance, looking weak. Because he kept his head lowered and looked like he was on the verge of Death, the Blackwatch soldiers guarding the entrance merely glanced at him and then coldly withdrew their gaze.

There were too many such people in the Manhattan area nowadays. With the outbreak of the epidemic, and without an effective vaccine, no one could distinguish whether it was a common illness or a viral infection.

It was fine for Li An to squat there. From Blackwatch's perspective, if Li An was Infected, it would be a simple matter of a single burst of gunfire, and they wouldn't even have to move around to deal with an Infected directly.

At this moment, Li An didn't know what these Blackwatch soldiers were thinking. Taking advantage of the current free time, Li An's mind was rapidly sorting through the game's plot, trying to find a way to successfully pass this trial.

Several minutes later.

In a place invisible to others, Li An's lowered eyes suddenly burst with a sharp glint. He seemed to have thought of a solution.

If he remembered correctly, Alex Mercer seemed to have temporarily lost his abilities for a period, having been injected with an inhibitor developed by Dr. McMullen by Cross. Later, Alex Mercer sought help from Dr. Ragland at St. Paul's Hospital. With his help, Alex Mercer not only regained his abilities but also awakened his final Bio-Armor and Blade.

"That's my chance!"

Thinking of this, Li An's eyes erupted with an unprecedented light. As Dr. Ragland had once helped Alex Mercer, he surely still had Alex Mercer's virus samples and antibodies there. Although the game never mentioned this, as a doctor, Li An didn't believe he wouldn't have kept backup samples.

Thinking of this, Li An immediately stood up, and then, under the wary gaze of the Blackwatch soldiers, slowly asked, "Cough cough, cough cough cough, esteemed soldier, do you know how to get to St. Paul's Hospital?"

Li An, who had just arrived in this world and was being hunted, naturally didn't know where St. Paul's Hospital was. At this moment, he could only ask the nearby Blackwatch soldiers for help.
