19: Poker, you really disappoint me.
Noon.
Inside the Litton Family home in Hibo Town.
After Ron and Litton finished eating, they went to a small annex in the backyard.
The room was neither big nor small, about twenty-five square meters, and was filled with various sundries.
"Sorry, Ron, if you don't mind, you can clean up the room and stay here for now."
Litton said. After Ron's "adventure" into the wilderness to find fresh cat tail grass for him, his satisfaction with Ron reached its peak.
He increasingly felt that Ron would be a very suitable assistant.
So, Litton decided to clean out the storeroom and give Ron a temporary place to stay.
"It's alright, Mr. Litton, this is already very good, much better than me living on the streets."
Ron said with a grateful expression, though in his heart, he was also very satisfied with the room.
This room was originally a small laboratory that Litton had specially built with bricks and stones. It was only after he became the Barto Family's private doctor that it gradually became disused.
Therefore, this room was warm in winter and cool in summer, and very quiet, undisturbed by others, making it an excellent place for cultivation.
As for the main building, it was where Litton and his daughter Lisa rested, and the front yard would be converted into a reception area for a private clinic.
So, Litton only had this storeroom left for Ron to live in.
"It's good that you don't mind. Let's clean it up then!"
Litton said with a smile, then rolled up his sleeves and, together with Ron, cleaned up the clutter.
"Oh, right, I haven't paid you for those fresh cat tail grass yet!"
After cleaning up the sundries, Litton remembered something and said seriously.
Hearing this, Ron repeatedly waved his hands in refusal.
"No need, Mr. Litton. I'm already very grateful that you took me in. How could I possibly accept money from you?"
"No! One thing is one thing; you must take this money."
Litton shook his head, then went back to the main building on his own accord, reappearing a few minutes later.
"According to market price, those cat tail grass would be about twelve to fifteen silver coins."
"These past few days, due to the presence of magical beasts, no one has gone out to gather herbs, leading to a scarcity of cat tail grass."
"So, I'll give you fifteen silver coins!"
Litton placed three five-value silver wolf coins in Ron's hand.
Ron still wanted to refuse, but Litton's attitude was firm.
Therefore, Ron had no choice but to accept the money, thinking to himself.
"Litton is indeed a good person. This means I'll have to modify my plan..."
Originally, Ron had only regarded Litton as a tool for his reasonable return to Hibo Town.
But now it seemed, Litton was upright and kind.
Not only did he give him a place to stay, but he also refused to exploit or oppress him even for the payment for the cat tail grass.
One must know that if it were someone else, like the cold-hearted slave owner Barto, he could completely exploit and oppress Ron, or even seize it by force.
However, Litton had given Ron silver coins at the highest price.
As a result, Ron was genuinely touched, and therefore had to change his plan.
Time flew by, and it was afternoon.
Litton went out to pick up Lisa from school, while Ron continued to clean up the room at home.
However, not long after Litton left, Ron also quietly departed, entering a certain alley.
Half a minute later, Ron, wearing an alchemical mask, arrived at a flower shop.
"Hello, sir, what can I get for you?"
The attendant asked, and Ron, with a smile on his face, said very naturally.
"Hello, I am a friend of Mr. Poke, the butler of farmer Barto."
"We're planning a small gathering tonight and need some barbecue food and beer. Please have them delivered to him later."
"Oh, and please also deliver this letter. It contains a surprise I have for Poke. This is my tip for you."
Ron took out another letter and a fifty-value copper coin, handing them over.
The attendant was immediately surprised.
Although the condition of delivering a letter was a bit strange, the tip this gentleman gave was simply too much!
So, the attendant quickly put the tip into his pocket and said with a bright smile.
"Alright, sir, I will definitely have someone deliver it."
Ron nodded, then turned and left.
When he returned, it wasn't long before he saw Litton and Lisa come back.
"Oh! It's Brother Ron!"
Lisa was very happy and went up to greet Ron.
Ron also smiled and patted Lisa's head.
"Hello, Lisa. From today on, I'll be your neighbor."
Lisa was even more delighted to hear this, and Litton also smiled and said.
"Alright, Lisa, get ready for dinner. Ron, you come too."
So, after tidying up, the three began to eat dinner.
Meanwhile, on the other side.
After Poke finished his day's work and just returned home, he heard a knock on the door from outside.
Opening the door, he saw it was a delivery person from a restaurant.
"Hmm? I didn't order food today?"
Poke was a bit surprised, and the delivery person explained.
"Mr. Poke, this is a meal ordered by your friend, and he also has a letter he asked me to bring to you."
"Friend? Letter? Wait!"
Poke was initially puzzled, but in an instant, he thought of something, and his pupils constricted.
So, Poke pretended to be calm and said.
"Alright, how much does it cost?"
After collecting two silver coins, the delivery person turned and left.
Poke immediately closed the door, bolted it, and opened the letter to read.
Indeed, it was the same handwriting.
"Mr. Poke, you have truly disappointed me. How could you tell others about our secret?"
"Alright, Madam Grace is also part of our secret, so it's understandable that you told her, but what about Mr. Gevas?"
"You even contacted a security officer, an incredibly powerful Just Knight? If that's the case, then I think it's time our transaction ended."
"I've decided to find another partner... For example, Mr. Barto, what do you think? It's time to say goodbye, Mr. Poke. I wish you all the best and a safe journey."
When Poke finished reading the letter, he immediately felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar, and fear arose spontaneously.
"No!"
Poke roared in a low voice, his voice filled with panic.
"It's over, everything is too late. How did he know that Grace contacted Gevas?"
Poke was utterly confused. He and Grace had only secretly discussed this matter this morning.
And if Grace wasn't stupid, she would absolutely never tell an outsider about such a thing.
But how did that blackmailer know about it?
Poke couldn't figure it out, but he knew one thing.
That was, right now, he had to escape!
Otherwise, if Barto found out about this, he would definitely send people to kill him immediately!
Poke hastily packed his things, preparing to leave.
However, when he thought of something, he stopped in his tracks.
