2: Get the wallet

Screams echoed through the heavens and earth.

Even Ron, hundreds of meters away, could hear them clearly.

Ron's heart swelled with joy, but he still held back, observing quietly.

"My foot, my foot!"

Barto had fallen to the ground, clutching his right foot and wailing in agony.

The butler and attendants beside him immediately paled with shock and rushed over to check.

The slaves, hearing the screams, also stopped their work in confusion.

When a few slaves who were closer realized it was Barto who was injured, a hint of schadenfreude appeared on their otherwise numb faces.

At this moment, the butler knelt down and saw Barto's right foot tightly clamped by a large hunting trap, which was constantly oozing blood.

"Oh! Goddess of Creation above, quick, someone!"

The butler exclaimed, immediately directing the guards to remove the hunting trap.

However, as soon as a guard moved, Barto felt even greater pain and quickly shouted, "You fools, stop!"

The guards dared not move. Barto, cold sweat streaming down his face, endured the pain and observed.

He saw that the hunting trap's grip was too strong; its iron teeth had already pierced through flesh and bitten into his bone.

So, Barto quickly said, "Be gentle, carry me back first."

Thus, the guards carefully and slowly lifted Barto.

Just as the butler was about to send Barto back, Barto suddenly remembered something and abruptly spoke, "Wait!"

The butler quickly stopped and asked, bowing his head, "Master, do you have any other instructions?"

Barto, sucking in a cold breath, pointed at the slaves in the field and said, "Have the other attendants stay and watch them finish their work before returning. Remember, don't let them slack off!"

"Yes, Master!"

Only then did Barto allow the butler to escort him away.

The slaves in the field showed no change in expression; they were long accustomed to Barto the slave owner's exploitation and stinginess.

However, as they lowered their heads and habitually continued their work, a deep-seated hatred still emanated from their eyes.

"Hmm? Do I still have to wait?"

In the distant bushes, Ron couldn't help but frown.

"That wallet, it won't be picked up by someone, will it?"

He felt a bit anxious, but the current situation was not under his control, so he could only continue to wait.

Another two hours passed, the wheat field was harvested, and the supervising attendants took all the slaves away.

Ron still dared not move, and waited for another half an hour as the sun slowly set in the west.

Seeing that there was no one around and no one was returning, Ron finally got up.

Rubbing his numb legs, Ron quickly ran to the spot where Barto had fallen earlier.

After a careful search, his eyes suddenly lit up.

He abruptly reached out and pushed aside some broken wheat stalks.

A square leather wallet was clearly buried within.

Ron picked up the wallet, not bothering to check its contents, and immediately turned and ran.

Not long after he left, some of Barto's attendants came again.

Meanwhile, on the other side, in a large courtyard in the center of Hibo Town's residential area, there were brick-and-tile buildings, exquisitely decorated and magnificent, with a strong medieval architectural style.

This was the residence of Barto's family, covering an area of over a thousand square meters, and one of the most luxurious complexes in Hibo Town.

In the bedroom, Barto was continuously cursing.

"Damn beasts, who the hell put that animal trap there?"

"Don't let me catch you, or Master Barto will surely break your bones!"

"Also, has my wallet been found? Did those slaves pick it up? Check them thoroughly!"

The butler, Poke, quickly reported each item.

"Reporting, Master, this humble one speculates that the animal trap was likely set by nearby farmers."

"Because the wheat fields are ripe recently, farmers are afraid of birds, beasts, and field mice stealing their crops, so they place scarecrows and animal traps to protect their farmland."

"However, the specific person hasn't been found yet. As for your wallet..." Butler Poke paused slightly, bowing his head even lower.

"I have already sent people to check the slaves, and no signs of them hiding it were found."

"But don't worry, I have also sent servants back to the farmland to search carefully; it should be found."

Upon hearing this, Barto was about to get angry when he saw the family doctor stand up.

"Master Barto, your foot has been cleaned and can be bandaged."

Doctor Litton spoke, but then he hesitated, adding, "However, to avoid unnecessary risks..."

"I still recommend that you go to the city to see Dr. Gavin."

"Have him prescribe some advanced healing medicines; that would be safer."

Barto listened to these words, thought for a moment, then waved his hand indifferently.

"No need, Doctor Litton, I trust your skill."

Doctor Litton saw that Barto would not heed his advice, so he said no more.

He simply bandaged the wound with gauze, then bowed slightly and left the room.

After leaving, Doctor Litton shook his head.

While treating the wound, he noticed that the iron teeth of the hunting trap were full of rust and covered with foul-smelling, turbid matter.

Barto's wound, deep into the bone, had been contaminated by these attached substances.

If it was just simple cleaning and medication, it probably wouldn't be effective and could very likely lead to infection and a series of other problems.

However, Litton was just a family doctor, only capable of treating common colds, fevers, or minor external pain.

To truly treat such an injury, one would have to find Dr. Gavin in Kura City.

That was Litton's senior during his medical studies; he was highly skilled and possessed advanced anti-inflammatory drugs.

Currently, he was serving the nobles in the Wealthy District of Kura City.

It was just a pity that Barto, this stingy miser, was unwilling to spend another penny.

Saying he trusted his medical skill earlier was just an excuse.

"I hope Master Barto recovers completely, otherwise..."

Litton continued forward, thinking to himself, "I'm afraid in a few days, I'll have to find a new employer."

Meanwhile, in the desolate woods outside Hibo Town, there was a dilapidated wooden hut, its roof long rotted away and now simply covered with some thatch.

At this time, the sun was setting, nearing dusk.

A figure was running towards it; it was Ron.

"Haha, I really found it!"

Ron stopped, his face full of excitement, and after catching his breath, he cautiously looked around.

Seeing no signs of anyone having been in or around the small wooden hut, he finally relaxed, entered the hut, and closed the door.

Even though the latch on this door had actually been broken for a long time, closing it made no difference.

Ron took out the wallet from his embrace and carefully opened it to look.

"Hmm? There's actually a gold coin!"

A golden gleam caught his eye, and Ron was immediately overjoyed.
