139: Chapter 139 My lords, see you in the capital!
The high-Realm Cultivators at the edge of the square could finally no longer stand still.
These three bastards were simply as thorny as hedgehogs; if they didn't strike now, this group would disperse on their own before even reaching the imperial palace.
A sixth-Realm Elder soared into the air from the crowd, condensing a ball of extremely bright fire-attribute spiritual energy in his palm, and slammed it down directly above the barrier.
Before he could slam it down, several Xyclotl Star-spawn rammed over from the side, their gelatinous bodies wrapping around his entire person. The fire-attribute spiritual energy exploded inside the jelly, blasting the Elder flying backward to crash against the stone pillars of the council hall and slide down to the ground.
Although he wasn't injured, even a sixth-Realm Cultivator would have to expend a great deal of effort to eliminate the Star-spawn, which were famous in the Cthulhu Mythos for their thick hides.
Xie Feng did not summon the Dark Young; after all, he lacked Shub-Niggurath's blessing, and if he called them out now and the binding spells couldn't control them, they would only become uncontrolled monsters launching indiscriminate attacks.
But just the Formless Spawn, Byakhee, and Xyclotl Star-spawn—these three things alone were enough to push this group of Cultivators to the verge of collapse.
A Taixuan Sect Disciple knelt beside the mossy remains of his companion, his sword dropping to the ground, his mouth open yet unable to make any sound.
His worldview was being rewritten in an extremely brutal manner by this battle. Cultivators being the supreme combat power of Nine Provinces was a truth instilled in him since childhood, and now, the masked madman brimming with Great Old Ones aura right before his eyes was smashing that truth to pieces.
Tu Ziguan and Lu Mingyuan guarded Xie Feng, while Xie Feng acted like a teleportation coordinate, continuously attracting mythos creatures.
The Sect Master of Taixuan Sect stood at the entrance of the council hall, the seventh-Realm spiritual energy fluctuations having condensed into a nearly substantive sense of oppression.
Xie Feng stood right in the center of the Barrier of Nak-Titer, his magic points already nearing the bottom.
Several Formless Spawn had been burned through by the sixth-Realm Elder's fire-attribute spiritual energy. Half of a Byakhee's wing membrane had been sheared off by Sword Qi, causing it to crash crookedly into the stone pillars at the edge of the square. The Xyclotl Star-spawn were still stubbornly enduring the joint suppression of two seventh-Realm Cultivators, their gelatinous bodies being shaved thinner layer by layer by the spiritual energy shockwaves.
Tu Ziguan had only the last three ammo belts left, the maxim's barrel had already turned red, and Lu Mingyuan's plasma weapon was also beginning to overheat and burn hot.
Three seventh-Realm Cultivators soared into the air simultaneously from the direction of the council hall, their seventh-Realm spiritual energy pressure crushing down like three mountains at once.
The seventh Realm was a major barrier; it was no joke.
"Brother Feng! Can you summon something even more badass?!" Tu Ziguan jammed the last ammo belt into the feed port and roared without looking back.
"I can summon it! After we summon it, the three of us can kick the bucket together!" Xie Feng replied through gritted teeth, the Seal on his left hand beginning to loosen due to the frantic use of magic points.
Xie Feng backhanded his own left hand with two slaps.
"Don't count me in! I can log off anytime!" Lu Mingyuan switched his plasma weapon to his left hand, spread the five fingers of his right hand, and opened another Spacetime Gate to swallow a fifth-Realm Cultivator attempting to flank them.
"At most the two of you will die!"
"I wasn't counting you either! What I'm counting is the Brain Matter!" Xie Feng batted a rushing third-Realm Cultivator flying with a single staff strike.
The Brain Matter emitted an extremely sharp Shaggai profanity.
The general meaning was, "What the f*ck do you care about me, I'm not even human."
They couldn't drag this out any longer.
Those seventh-Realm Cultivators at the edge of the square had not all entered the fray yet, but the Sect Master of Taixuan Sect had already drawn his hands out of his sleeves.
The seventh-Realm Peak spiritual energy fluctuations on his body were solidifying at an extremely fast speed; once he struck, this layer of the barrier wouldn't last more than a few breaths.
He couldn't die taking Tu Ziguan with him, so he could only find some reinforcements for himself.
Xie Feng took a deep breath and pressed his left hand against the left side of his neck. That bright yellow mark on the surface of his skin was slightly burning hot, like a stone just fished out of warm water.
The words Emperor Zhou Weixi had told him by the lake floated up in the depths of his consciousness: This item can help you withstand a direct erosion from the Old Gods once on the Hyperborean Continent.
Now was not the Hyperborean Continent; now they were surrounded by hundreds of Cultivators in the square of the Taixuan Sect from hundreds of years ago.
Although he didn't know if The King in Yellow was in the imperial palace right now, there was definitely something related to The King in Yellow inside the imperial palace.
As long as he strengthened the anchor point, he could take this group of Cultivators on a trip together!
He abruptly spread the five fingers of his right hand, and the last strand of silver-white magic thread within his body surged wildly from his fingertips. The barrier vanished, and an extremely unstable azure mirror surface was ripped open directly above the sky.
The Spacetime Gate expanded larger and larger above his head, the edges of the gate frame continuously rolling with extremely fine and bright silver-white light patterns.
"What is this brat trying to do? Summoning what kind of thing out? So huge?!"
The Cultivators present watched the huge portal in terror.
But Xie Feng was not preparing to summon; he was preparing to retreat with everyone.
At the same time, his left hand grasped the yellow sign on the side of his neck, pouring the very last bit of magic point into it. The yellow sign lit up abruptly, and an extremely ancient and profound bright yellow light flame spewed out from deep within the mark, climbing up along his left arm, drawing an extremely bright arc in the air, and fiercely plunging straight into the center of the Spacetime Gate's mirror surface.
The gate shook violently, and the azure mirror surface began to change color at a speed visible to the naked eye—turning from blue to cyan, from cyan to yellow, and finally the entire door turned into an extremely thick and dense dark golden color.
Using the yellow sign as an anchor point to trigger the Spacetime Gate.
Just like how the God of Toads had fixed the teleportation location back then.
"My lords! See you in the Imperial City!"
The huge portal crashed down, and all the Cultivators in the entire square, including the three of Xie Feng,
vanished.
Zhou Shudan had finished deploying all the Imperial Guards at this moment.
He stood quietly inside the Meridian Gate, looking at the magnificent landscape before him and slowly speaking:
Ten thousand miles of rivers and mountains form a lonely terrace, how can jackals be allowed to return and change their bones?
The dragon robe is not yet cold when the heart dies first, fresh blood waters the spring awaiting future blossoms.
Finishing his last sentence, he slowly lowered the blood-stained cuffs of his dragon robe, turned around, faced the main gate of the Hall of Supreme Harmony, and straightened his back rigidly.
He knew that this poem probably wouldn't be recorded by any historians, but he didn't care.
As soon as his voice fell, a huge blue light film appeared in mid-air!
The three people who came out first in the air were cursing and swearing.
"Can't you take a tunnel when entering the Imperial City?! Why do you have to come from mid-air?!"
Tu Ziguan loudly cursed Xie Feng.
"Shut up! Are you a master of the Imperial City? You sticky fake Jizhou kid who loves eating sesame seed cakes!"
Xie Feng immediately retorted.
The few of them crashed heavily onto the ground. Fortunately, Cultivators had thick hides and didn't fall to their deaths.
The golden bricks on the square of the Hall of Supreme Harmony were smashed into an extremely deep pit by the Spacetime Gate. Hundreds of Cultivators snapped out of their teleportation dizziness to find themselves standing beneath a completely unfamiliar starry sky.
"What kind of Demonic Technique is this! To actually be able to send away so many high-Realm Cultivators of ours all at once?!"
The Sect Master of Taixuan Sect stood at the very front of the crowd, his seventh-Realm Divine Sense instinctively spreading out. What it touched was not the mist among the mountains of Yuzhou, but the city-protecting grand array on the vermilion city walls surrounding the outer perimeter of the Imperial City.
As well as the young emperor at the entrance of the Hall of Supreme Harmony, wearing a bright yellow dragon robe and clutching a tattered stone slab in his hand.
