18: Chapter 18 It feels more dangerous outside than inside
"I've heard about what happened in Kumu Village."
Wen Yushu looked at Xie Feng.
"Brother Xie, although I don't know what exactly is on you, it looks quite reliable. You've been in the Sect for over half a year, and you've encountered three anomalies.
Low-tier anomalies were scared off by you, derivatives were seen through by you, and secondary anomalies were stared out of existence by you. The people who followed you, Tu Ziguan and Mo Tang, are both still alive."
"This survival probability is much higher than the Sect's average, so I told Elder Pu that I'm willing to go."
Xie Feng thought to himself.
Heh, with Elder Pu nearby, your survival rate wouldn't be high anyway.
"You calculated it?" Xie Feng said.
"Calculated it."
"Calculated what?"
Wen Yushu smiled and didn't answer. He quickened his pace and walked to the front of the group.
I'll say it again, riddle-makers get out of Gotham!
Gu Jian walked up from behind, walking side-by-side with Xie Feng. The two of them walked in silence for a long way.
Gu Jian suddenly spoke.
"I owe Tu Ziguan a favor. He said you're trustworthy. I believe him."
Three short sentences, and he shut his mouth right after finishing.
Are you people treating me like an NPC to farm favorability here? Let me ask again, who the hell asked either of you two?
Xie Feng cursed wildly in his mind and glanced sideways at Gu Jian.
"Thanks." Xie Feng said.
"No need." Gu Jian.
"I thank Tu Wu." Xie Feng wasn't the type to pamper children, so he was straightforward.
"……"
Are you kidding me? I look at Outer Gods every day, and I still have to play social etiquette with you guys?
The Mirror Tomb was in a wasteland sixty miles west of Cangyun City.
Calling it a "Tomb", it was actually an abandoned mine pit.
I don't know how many years ago someone mined mica here. After the mineral veins dried up, a huge open-pit mine was left behind.
The pit walls were embedded with mica fragments. When the sunlight shone on them, the entire mine pit glowed.
It looked like a giant dragonfly had one of its eyeballs ripped off and thrown onto the ground.
Two mirrors stood at the bottom of the mine pit.
Xie Feng stood at the edge of the mine pit, looking down at those two mirrors.
Saying they were mirrors, they actually looked more like two doors. Each of them was two people tall, and they were made of unknown Materials, with mirror surfaces that were abnormally smooth.
Sunlight shone straight down from overhead, landing on the mirror surfaces. The mirrors didn't reflect any light at all; they were completely non-reflective.
The moment the sunlight touched the mirror surfaces, it was as if something had swallowed it up.
The two mirrors stood facing each other, about ten steps apart.
Xie Feng could feel that something existed between those ten steps.
The space between the two mirrors was slightly distorted, like the heat waves rising from the ground on a midsummer day, but it wasn't hot here, and the bottom of the mine pit was chillingly, abnormally cold.
Wen Yushu stood to Xie Feng's right, looking down at the two mirrors while gently tapping his cuff.
"The rules are the three things Elder Pu mentioned: don't look at yourself in the mirror for more than three breaths, don't touch the mirror surface, and don't use reflective objects." Xie Feng curled his lips, "But he didn't say how to get out after going in."
Gu Jian stood to Xie Feng's left, his right hand already gripping the hilt of his sword.
"Kill our way out," he said.
No, I can't communicate with this guy.
Xie Feng rolled his eyes and cursed under his breath again. How could this ruthless Dao swordsman youngster be so goofy? Did his family tell him to act aloof, otherwise people would realize he was an idiot?
Wen Yushu smiled and didn't retort.
Great, the two of you together make a total idiot.
Xie Feng stood at the edge of the mine pit, staring at the space between the two mirrors. The spiritual power in his palms had condensed to the extreme when he suddenly sensed another gaze.
It didn't come from inside the mirrors, but from behind him.
Xie Feng spun around abruptly.
The edge of the mine pit was empty, with only wild grass swaying gently in the wind. There was no one there.
But the moment he turned around, out of the corner of his eye, he saw what seemed to be some black gelatinous substance flash through the weeds.
"Damn!"
Xie Feng turned back around and began sprinting fiercely toward the two mirrors at the bottom of the mine pit.
The remaining two were somewhat stunned.
"It seems Brother Xie is very eager to save his fellow disciples."
Wen Yushu said.
The three of them walked down the slope of the mine pit.
Sunlight shone down from overhead, casting their shadows onto the pit walls, where mica fragments chopped them into countless pieces.
The two mirrors grew closer and clearer.
When they walked to a position about three steps away from the mirrors, Xie Feng saw the mirror surfaces.
Patterns were emerging on the mirror surfaces.
Countless extremely fine silvery-white lines spread outward from the center of the mirrors like blood vessels, constantly splitting and extending to weave a dense net.
The three of them stopped.
"I'll take the lead, Brother Gu, you cover the rear," Wen Yushu said.
Gu Jian nodded.
Xie Feng didn't object. He mobilized all the spiritual power in his six Meridians, his palms ready for action.
Wen Yushu took the first step.
When his foot stepped into the space between the two mirrors, his figure blurred for a second, as if wrapped in an invisible water curtain, and then he disappeared between the mirrors.
When Xie Feng entered it,
He felt a chill surge up from the soles of his feet, washing over his knees, waist, and chest.
It was that kind of chill from the surface of the mirrors.
Smooth and icy, as if his entire body was wrapped in a very thin layer of glass.
The world before his eyes began to distort. The mine pit, mica fragments, sunlight, and wild grass were all elongated, folded, and reorganized.
Then he stood in a corridor.
Both sides were mirrors.
The overhead was also a mirror.
Underfoot was also a mirror.
Countless Xie Fengs looked at him from countless angles.
Front, back, left, right, up, down.
There was a Xie Feng in every mirror surface, and every Xie Feng was looking at him.
No matter how Xie Feng moved, countless Xie Fengs also moved simultaneously, raising their hands and turning their heads.
There was one that didn't move.
Straight ahead, in that mirror about ten steps away.
The Xie Feng in the mirror did not raise its hand.
It stood in place, looking at Xie Feng.
The corners of its mouth curled up slightly, revealing a smile that Xie Feng had never seen on his own face.
Xie Feng looked at it.
It looked at Xie Feng.
"Like watching?"
Xie Feng super-accelerated, directly closing in on the mirror.
The Xie Feng in the mirror stopped smiling and instantly vanished.
"Don't look at the mirrors for more than three breaths, don't touch the mirror surfaces, don't use anything reflective, and also..." Wen Yushu thought for a moment, "If you see someone in the mirror smiling at you, close your eyes immediately. What Brother Xie just did was not a correct demonstration."
Gu Jian's voice came from behind, even shorter.
"Something is moving in the mirrors."
Xie Feng turned his head sideways, his peripheral vision sweeping across the mirror surface on the right. Inside the mirror, three steps behind Gu Jian, stood a figure identical to Gu Jian. But it wasn't a reflection, because Gu Jian was currently facing away from it, while it was facing directly at Gu Jian's back.
Then it smiled.
Gu Jian didn't look back; sword light exploded in the corridor, not piercing behind him, but piercing toward the mirror surface on the right.
The moment the tip of the sword touched the mirror surface, ripples spread across it like water. The sword tip pierced right in, striking the chest of the smiling "Gu Jian" inside the mirror.
