329: Vince's plan
“Oh my god!”
Liu Lian looked at the disgusted blonde in front of him and almost spat the blade of grass in his mouth onto her face.
“I’m telling you, Young Miss Katie, this is all in your head.”
“This is called ruggedness, rebelliousness, masculinity, understand?”
He pointed to the tattered jacket he’d bought from a second-hand store, then to his hair, which hadn’t been washed in at least three days.
“You call this a stench?!”
Katie dramatically recoiled two steps, fanning her slender fingers in front of her nose as if she truly smelled something unspeakable.
“Stay away from me! And my car! You stay away from it too!”
She shrieked, spreading her arms to shield the brand-new, dazzling pink sports car behind her, acting as if Liu Lian was some kind of mobile biohazard.
Liu Lian: “...”
Damn it.
Is this girl crazy?
He, a dignified Disciple of Kunlun Academy's Sword Cultivation Department, a future Sword Cultivator, the foremost under the Golden Core (self-proclaimed), had condescended to take on this appearance for a mission.
And she was still complaining?
“Alright, alright, I stink, I stink, okay?” Liu Lian rolled his eyes, too lazy to argue with her. “Give me the keys, I’ll drive you home.”
“No!” Katie’s refusal was absolute. “You will not touch my ‘sweetheart’! You take a taxi home yourself!”
Liu Lian’s patience completely ran out.
Just as he was about to erupt, Katie suddenly remembered the football players from earlier, and her body involuntarily shivered.
She secretly glanced around, afraid that the group would pop out from some corner again.
After weighing the pros and cons, she gritted her teeth and took the car keys from her bag, but instead of handing them directly to Liu Lian, she threw them far away onto the ground.
“Here! But, you are not allowed to sit in the driver’s seat! You sit in the back!”
Liu Lian picked up the keys, looked at the two-seater sports car, then at Katie.
Katie also realized the problem, her cheeks flushing crimson.
Finally, under Liu Lian’s teasing gaze, she reluctantly got into the passenger seat, then pulled a bottle of perfume from her bag and sprayed it wildly at the driver’s seat and the space around her.
The strong scent of perfume mixed with the car’s original leather smell, almost making Liu Lian pass out on the spot.
“Drive! Hurry up!” Katie pinched her nose, urging him in a muffled voice.
Liu Lian floored the accelerator, and the pink sports car roared, shooting forward.
All the way, Katie’s complaints never stopped.
“Drive slower! My ‘sweetheart’ was just picked up!”
“Oh my god, can you stop shaking your leg? Dust is falling off!”
“Ugh... are you really not going to take a shower?”
Liu Lian drove expressionlessly, with only one thought in his mind.
Being a nanny is more tiring than fighting Golden Core Stage demons.
He began to intensely miss his days on Kunlun Mountain, missed bickering with Han Li, sparring with Fang Yuan, and even missed Lin Xiao’s perpetually icy face.
At least, they wouldn’t complain that he stank... Meanwhile.
On the top floor of the Morak Family headquarters building, a secret meeting was underway.
Only a handful of people sat around the large conference table, but each exuded a steady aura and had sharp eyes.
At the head of the table was a tall, stern-faced middle-aged man, Vince, the Morak Family’s number three figure.
“The East Coast channels have been secured.”
A subordinate reported in a low voice.
“In three days, the ‘new goods’ can be fully rolled out.”
Vince nodded, his face showing no ripple of emotion.
He picked up the whiskey on the table, swirling it gently, the amber liquid leaving trails on the glass.
Just then, a man with gold-rimmed glasses and a refined demeanor stood up.
“Mr. Vince, regarding Young Miss Katie’s new bodyguard, I looked into him.”
“His background is completely blank, as if he appeared out of thin air. Moreover... this afternoon, he single-handedly, with bare hands, dealt with five burly football players.”
The man with gold-rimmed glasses pushed up his spectacles.
“I suspect he might be a spy sent by the FBI or DEA.”
The atmosphere in the conference room instantly grew tense.
Everyone’s gaze focused on Vince.
Vince, however, chuckled softly.
“I know.”
These two words stunned everyone present.
“I know he’s a spy.” Vince put down his glass and looked around at everyone. “That’s why I want to put him by Katie’s side.”
The man with gold-rimmed glasses looked puzzled.
“Sir, I don’t understand. Since you know he’s a threat, why not just...”
He made a throat-slitting gesture.
“Just get rid of him?” Vince shook his head. “And then what? Attract more, more troublesome flies?”
“Put him by Katie’s side, let him be a twenty-four-hour full-time nanny, let him be exhausted every day dealing with a spoiled girl’s demands. Do you think he’ll have much energy and time left to investigate our true core business?”
Vince stood up and walked to the huge floor-to-ceiling window, looking down at the city lights below.
“What we let him see is what we want him to see. What we let him hear is also what we allow him to hear. This way, a leashed dog is always much safer than a wild wolf hiding in the shadows, ready to pounce at any moment.”
He paused, then added: “Besides, he does protect Katie very well, doesn’t he? Two birds with one stone.”
In the conference room, everyone suddenly understood, showing expressions of admiration.
Vince tapped open a surveillance screen on the wall.
The screen showed the entrance to the Morak Estate.
The pink sports car was stopped, and Liu Lian and Katie were arguing fiercely by the car.
Looking at the young Eastern face on the screen, still bickering with his sister, Vince picked up his glass, gently swirling the crimson liquid.
Keep playing your bodyguard game, little mouse.
Once everything settles, it will be time for you to go.
He drained the whiskey in his glass.
