87: It was the immortal brother who saved me
Gusu Province First Oncology Hospital, late at night.
The biting pain was like countless ants gnawing frantically at Wenwen's bones, making it impossible for her to sleep.
She was only eight years old.
She bit her lip tightly, not letting out even the slightest sound.
Because on the small cot next to her, her parents were curled up.
To treat her illness, they had quit their jobs, sold their house, and took turns watching over her day and night. Their once raven-black hair was now streaked with many, many silver strands.
They were too tired; she couldn't wake them up again.
Wenwen struggled to turn her head and look out the window.
A bright moon hung in the sky, its cold light illuminating the earth.
"Moon Grandma, Immortal Grandpa..."
She prayed silently in her heart; these were the only beings who could save her in the stories her mother told her.
"Please, save me, so Papa and Mama won't have to work so hard..."
Just then, a blurry figure flashed across the night sky outside the window.
Was she seeing things?
Wenwen blinked. It must be too painful; she was having hallucinations.
She knew she was going to die soon; the doctor uncles always shook their heads when they saw her.
She clenched her small fist with difficulty and whispered in a voice only she could hear.
"Papa, Mama, if I'm gone, don't be too sad. Eat well, sleep well, and live bravely..."
As soon as she finished speaking.
She slowly opened her eyes, then suddenly froze.
In front of her hospital bed, at some unknown point, a person was standing.
A tall, thin, handsome older brother in a black tracksuit was standing by her bed. He had no expression on his face; he was cold and emotionless.
How did he get in? The door was clearly closed.
Wenwen's big eyes were full of curiosity.
"Big brother, who are you?" Wenwen asked curiously, even forgetting some of her pain.
Xie Wangsheng silently looked at the frail little girl in front of him, who was nothing but skin and bones.
He could clearly feel that the flame of life within her was so weak it could extinguish at any moment.
Exactly like his little sister back then.
His sister, who lay on a hospital bed and eventually lost her warmth in his arms.
His hands, resting by his sides, unconsciously clenched.
"What is your name?"
His voice was cold, devoid of any emotion.
"My name is Wenwen, and I'm eight years old."
Wenwen answered softly, then gathered her courage and asked again.
"Big brother, are you also here to see a doctor?"
Xie Wangsheng didn't answer, only staring into her eyes and asking again.
"Does it hurt?"
Wenwen nodded heavily.
Then, she quickly lowered her voice, speaking with a choked sob.
"It hurts... but Papa and Mama are resting, and I don't want to disturb them..."
Xie Wangsheng's heart was sharply pierced by those words.
His sister had said the same thing back then.
"Brother, I'm in so much pain... but I can't cry. If I cry, Papa and Mama will be even sadder..."
The same understanding, the same despair.
It was just a pity that there was no Immortal who could help her back then.
In the end, he watched his parents' heartbroken expressions, watching his sister being covered by a cold white sheet.
Xie Wangsheng lowered his gaze, his long eyelashes concealing the surging waves in his eyes.
But now.
He had become an Immortal in the secular sense.
Xie Wangsheng slowly raised his hand, and in his palm lay a Medicinal Pill emitting a clear fragrance.
Solid Foundation Pill.
"I am an Immortal."
Xie Wangsheng looked into Wenwen's eyes, speaking slowly and deliberately.
"Eat this, and your illness will be cured."
Wenwen's eyes instantly lit up, like the brightest stars in the night sky.
"Immortal?"
She covered her mouth in surprise, then lowered her voice, afraid of being too loud.
It really was an Immortal big brother!
Her prayers had been heard!
Immense joy overwhelmed her, and the pain diminished significantly.
"Really?"
She cautiously confirmed, afraid she had misheard.
"Is it because Wenwen is very obedient that the Immortal big brother is willing to help me?"
Looking at her eyes, full of anticipation and innocence, Xie Wangsheng's perpetually frozen face uncharacteristically revealed a faint smile.
"Yes."
Wenwen smiled happily, took the Medicinal Pill, and put it into her mouth without hesitation.
The Medicinal Pill melted upon contact, and a warm current instantly surged through her body. The excruciating pain that gnawed at her bone marrow truly receded rapidly.
So comfortable... However, just then, her expression suddenly fell.
She looked up at Xie Wangsheng, her small face filled with sadness.
"Big brother... am I going to die?"
"So, I'm having hallucinations, seeing an Immortal big brother come to save me?"
Xie Wangsheng's heart was sharply pierced.
He leaned down, reached out, and gently stroked Wenwen's head.
His movements were very light, and his voice was uncharacteristically gentle.
"It's not a hallucination."
"You still have to live well with Papa and Mama."
After he finished speaking, a wave of drowsiness washed over her, and Wenwen could no longer stay awake, falling into a deep sleep.
This was the most peaceful sleep she had since she fell ill... The next morning.
Wenwen was awakened by a surprised cry.
She opened her eyes and saw her parents holding her, sobbing uncontrollably, but with expressions of immense excitement and ecstasy on their faces.
"Wenwen! My precious daughter!"
"You're cured! You're completely cured!"
"The doctor said all the cancer cells in your body have disappeared! Your leukemia, overnight, is gone!"
Her parents shouted incoherently, and the surrounding doctors and nurses all gathered around, looking at her as if she were a monster, their eyes filled with incomprehensible shock.
"A medical miracle! This is absolutely the greatest medical miracle of this century!"
Listening to the noisy sounds around her, Wenwen's mind clearly recalled the image of that stern older brother from last night.
And his last gentle words.
She looked at her parents, who were crying tears of joy, and smiled.
"It must have been the Immortal big brother who saved me!"
