164: Chapter 164 No one can escape!
Less than two minutes passed.
"Target Number One neutralized."
"Target Number Two neutralized."
"Target Number Three neutralized."
The calm reporting voices of the SWAT Team members came through the walkie-talkie.
"Nicely done." Su Yun took a sip of water from his teacup. "Captain Lei, the path is clear. Breach the main building directly."
"Assault team, follow me!"
Lei Dapao waved his hand and took the lead in kicking open the dilapidated glass doors of the main building.
Just as they rushed into the first-floor lobby, a burst of dense gunfire erupted from upstairs.
Bang bang bang!
Da da da!
The roar of makeshift guns and the sound of machetes slamming against metal mixed together, making one's scalp tingle.
"Damn it, kill him! Beat him to death!"
Brother Hei's exasperated curses came from upstairs.
"Captain Lei, third floor, left side!" Su Yun shouted.
Stepping over broken glass, the SWAT Team members sprinted up the stairs.
When they reached the third floor, the sight before them made everyone gasp in shock.
At the end of the hallway sat a massive, rusted chemical reactor.
Seven or eight burly men were surrounding the reactor, attacking it frantically. Some were firing makeshift guns into it, while others were hacking at the reactor door with machetes.
The reactor's iron casing was dented and battered, splattered with shocking stains of blood.
There was absolutely no movement from inside.
"Freeze! Police!"
Lei Dapao gave a thunderous roar, pointing his rifle directly at the ceiling.
Bang bang bang!
The crisp gunshots echoed through the corridor.
The thugs were all scared witless.
They turned their heads, saw the sea of black-clad SWAT officers, and dropped their knives directly onto the floor.
"The police are here! Run!"
Someone shouted, and the group began scurrying around like headless flies.
"Everyone get down! Anyone who moves will be shot!"
The SWAT Team members pounced like wolves and tigers, pinning several lackeys to the ground in no time.
The sound of handcuffs clicking rang out everywhere.
"Where's Brother Hei?" Lei Dapao scanned the area but didn't see the leader.
"Captain Lei, the third room on the left!" Su Yun stared at the red dot on the screen. "That bastard saw things were going south and slipped into that room. There's a secret passage inside!"
Lei Dapao kicked open the room door.
It was empty, with a secret door pushed open on the wall.
"Trying to run?" Lei Dapao gritted his teeth, just about to lead his men inside.
"No need to chase him," Su Yun spoke up to stop him.
"Brother Su, what do you mean? Let him go?" Lei Dapao grew anxious.
"He can't escape," Su Yun sneered. "The exit of the secret passage is next to the wastewater pool behind the factory. Isn't the Second Squadron flanking from the back? Tell them to just wait by the pool for the rabbit to come to the trap."
Lei Dapao's eyes lit up, and he immediately pressed his walkie-talkie.
"Second Squadron, listen up! Head to the rear wastewater pool immediately! The target is coming out of a secret passage soon. Pin him down!"
"Second Squadron copies that!"
The livestream feed switched again, showing the perspective of the Second Squadron's captain.
Several SWAT officers held their guns ready, crouching by the foul-smelling wastewater pool.
Beside them was a rusted sewage pipe.
In less than half a minute, a rustling sound came from inside the sewage pipe.
A bald, fat man crawled out covered in filth, gasping for breath.
It was Brother Hei.
He had just poked his head out and hadn't even had time to breathe fresh air.
"Don't move!"
Three dark muzzles were pressed directly against his forehead.
Brother Hei trembled so hard he wet his pants on the spot.
"Run! Why don't you keep running!" the Second Squadron captain kicked Brother Hei in the stomach and slapped the 'silver bracelets' on him.
[Nicely done!]
[This coordination is a perfect ten! Master Su is basically using a full-map hack!]
[The net of heaven is vast; justice may be slow, but it's certain! Scum like this should be shot a hundred times!]
The bullet comments in the livestream scrolled frantically, and gift effects flooded the screen.
Su Yun ignored them; his primary concern now was Wang Xiaofan.
"Captain Lei, forget those small fries! Go check the reactor!"
Lei Dapao snapped back to his senses and turned to rush toward the end of the hallway.
Several SWAT officers worked together to wrench open the deformed iron door of the reactor.
A thick smell of blood wafted out.
It was pitch black inside.
Lei Dapao turned on his flashlight and shone it inside.
The sight before him made even this iron-willed man's eyes turn red.
Wang Xiaofan lay collapsed in a pool of blood.
His clothes had long since been shredded into rags by blades. Dark red blood had glued the fabric strips firmly to his skin.
His left arm was bent at a bizarre angle—a complete comminuted fracture.
There were at least seven or eight gaping knife wounds on his body; the longest one stretched from his shoulder to his back, exposing the white bone beneath.
Lei Dapao's eyes were completely bloodshot.
Gritting his teeth, he took a large stride into the reactor.
His leather boots made a squelching sound as he stepped into the blood.
"Brother, hold on!"
Lei Dapao knelt on one knee in the blood.
He reached out with a trembling hand to check Wang Xiaofan's carotid artery.
The pulse was extremely weak; if he hadn't felt carefully, he wouldn't have detected it at all.
Lei Dapao noticed Wang Xiaofan's right hand.
That hand was clenched into a tight fist; because of the extreme force, the knuckles were an unnatural, ghastly white.
Blood was still seeping from between his fingers.
Lei Dapao carefully cradled that hand.
"Xiaofan, I'm the police. I've come to take you home."
"Let go now!"
Wang Xiaofan gave no response; he had long since fallen into a deep coma.
But that hand was like it had been welded shut; he couldn't pry it open at all.
Lei Dapao's eyelid twitched violently. He increased his strength, prying Wang Xiaofan's stiff fingers open one by one.
The first finger was pried open.
The second finger was pried open.
The palm had been gouged by his fingernails, leaving it a bloody mess.
A black USB drive, stained red with blood, lay quietly in his palm.
Lei Dapao's eyes stung. He carefully placed the USB drive into a transparent evidence bag.
"Medical team! Get over here! Move it!"
Lei Dapao roared frantically into the walkie-talkie.
His voice cracked from the shouting.
"Bring a stretcher! Bring blood bags! He's barely hanging on!"
After shouting, Lei Dapao turned to look at the lackeys pinned to the ground by the SWAT officers.
He walked over and kicked one of the yellow-haired punks in the stomach.
"You animals! If he dies, I'll make your whole families pay!"
The yellow-haired punk was kicked so hard he kept retching, not daring to make a sound.
The footage from the body camera was transmitted simultaneously to Su Yun's livestream via the network.
The screen was split in two.
On the right was the bloody scene in the chemical plant; on the left was the simple bungalow of the veteran, Guan Shanyue.
Guan Shanyue stared fixedly at the screen.
The old man's hands were braced on the table, the veins on the back of his hands bulging one by one.
He looked at Wang Xiaofan's bloodless face.
He looked at those terrifying knife wounds all over his body.
Tears finally broke through the dam.
"Xiaofan..."
Guan Shanyue sobbed uncontrollably.
He covered his face, his shoulders shaking violently.
"You're so foolish! Did you even want your life anymore!"
The old man cried like a child. Thirty years ago, he hadn't even cried this much when he saw his old squad leader blown to pieces.
"When your father left, he told me to take good care of you."
"Now that you've ended up like this, how am I supposed to face him when I go down there!"
