5: Chapter 5 The Big Axe Gang

"Oak Town."

Mo Bai stood beneath the high perimeter wall, looking up. There were many claw marks and dark red bloodstains on the wall, which, combined with the guards on the gate tower, gave off a solemn feeling.

However, when he saw the group of grinning players at the gate, Mo Bai regained that familiar feeling.

"Bro, bro, want to go fishing?"

"Wanna cast a few lines?"

"Huh? How did you know I caught a big fish over ten catties yesterday? Just one gave me eight experience points."

"Huh??"

"Who asked you?"

"What a buzzkill."

"Bro, it must have been exhausting to reel in such a big fish. Tell me the spot, I'll help you tackle it!"

"Sure, together?"

"Let's go, let's go."

A group of fishing enthusiasts carrying rods immediately swarmed away, while nearby, many players holding wooden spears and smelly bait were shouting for teams to hunt wolves.

After a day of trial and error, most players had gradually found suitable and safe ways to level up, and everything was in full swing.

Meanwhile, Mo Bai conveniently posted his method for setting up Bird Snares on the forum.

"Sharing a bird-catching method with everyone. One bird gives one experience point. It's safe, fast, doesn't need bait, and doesn't require buying materials. Favorite it if you like it, and throw in a Recommendation Vote."

"Setup method: Click to expand ↓."

A short while after posting, players began to reply.

"Wow, the big shot is such a good person."

"Huh? Why do birds go there just by clearing a patch of open ground?"

"Eyes: I've got it."

"Brain: I've got it too."

"Hands: You've got jack squat."

"Many thanks."

"Little birds are so cute..."

Looking at the pile of comments, Mo Bai was quite happy. Sometimes writing a little something or sharing a guide—isn't it all just to attract some attention and read some online game comments?

It truly was delightful.

The cheerful Mo Bai entered Oak Town and immediately stopped being cheerful.

"Holy crap, it stinks."

Mo Bai instantly pinched his nose, but it still couldn't block out that foul, rank stench.

Looking around, there were traces of public defecation everywhere in the corners and alleys; the stench was unbearable.

"What the hell, are real medieval towns actually this smelly? Or did the game developers believe the rumors and set it to be this stinking?"

Mo Bai looked at the triangular shacks and thatched huts next to the wall, pinched his nose, and followed the main road inside.

After asking for directions several times, he arrived at a shop entrance. Unfortunately, after a long explanation, when the owner finally understood he wanted to buy Fire Oil, he received some bad news.

"It was all bought up by others yesterday?"

"My goodness, are they all that fast?"

Mo Bai couldn't help but scratch his head, then turned around and sat down nearby.

"What do I do now? I originally wanted to use fire to restrict the Wolf King's movement range."

He pondered slightly, but before he could think, two or three Beggars unceremoniously surrounded him.

"Shoo, shoo! This is my turf, get lost!"

"Is this a place where just anyone can come to beg for food?"

"Huh?"

Mo Bai was stunned for a moment, but looking down at his tattered hemp clothes and filthy appearance, he stood up grumpily.

"Get lost! You're the Beggars! I'm certainly not!"

"Yo, yo, looking down on Beggars? Beggars earn more than you!"

"Brothers, give him a taste of our strength!"

The leading Old Beggar, upon hearing this, immediately twisted his neck recklessly. He pulled out a sharp Dagger from his waist, its blade glinting, with traces of dark red blood remaining in its crevices.

The other two also surrounded Mo Bai, squeezing him toward a nearby alley.

*Thud.*

Mo Bai retreated a few steps into the alley. The shop owner and passersby nearby didn't say a word; instead, they instinctively stepped back a few paces to stay away.

"Richer than me..."

Mo Bai, who wanted to argue back, realized he really didn't have a single cent on him. Forget the fact that the owner didn't have Fire Oil to sell; even if he did, Mo Bai couldn't afford it.

Thinking of this, he immediately dropped any thought of resisting and was "weakly" and "helplessly" squeezed into the alley.

"What... what are you doing?"

Mo Bai asked in a weak voice.

"Giving you a good job."

The Old Beggar gestured for the two to act.

"Grab him."

The two nearby immediately pulled out a piece of pitch-black tattered cloth and tried to wrap it around Mo Bai's mouth.

"Knockout Powder?"

Mo Bai blinked his eyes, feeling slightly excited.

"There's actually such good stuff?"

The Old Beggar was stunned. He suddenly realized the person in front of him wasn't afraid at all; instead... he was getting excited?

Before he could react, he saw the man dodge the attack, twist his hips, and throw a punch.

*Thud!*

*Thud!*

*Thud!*

After several muffled thuds, the two men instantly collapsed to the ground, rolling in pain.

The Old Beggar's expression changed. He greased his heels and turned to run.

"Spare me!"

"Want to leave? Too late!"

Mo Bai rushed over and grabbed the Old Beggar's shoulder.

But in the next instant, he found a Dagger piercing through the Old Beggar's clothes, stabbing toward his waist at an extremely tricky angle.

"Die for me!"

The Old Beggar's low shout rang out, but the Dagger looked like it was in slow motion to Mo Bai. He easily caught the wrist and gave it a gentle twist, making the Dagger fall to the ground.

"Argh!!"

*Thud!*

The howling Old Beggar was struck in the chest by Mo Bai's knee. He instantly went silent and fell to the ground, groaning.

"Tsk."

Mo Bai immediately began searching them. Before long, he found three small Potions and dozens of Copper Coins.

In addition, there was a crude Iron Dagger.

"Sixty-seven Copper Coins. Hmm, they really are richer than me."

He put the money away happily, then picked up a small Potion in a thin bamboo tube. He was about to fan the air to smell it like a chemistry teacher, but his movement suddenly paused.

"Damned bad habit. Trying to smell Knockout Powder... if I poison a Dagger next time, would I have to lick it?"

Mo Bai complained as he removed the cloth plug from one of the tubes and held it directly to a Beggar's nose.

"No, no, no, no, no!"

The Beggar tried to resist, but Mo Bai immediately pinned his head down.

After activating the ink box, Mo Bai essentially had Thought Acceleration and precise body control. An ordinary person had no chance of fighting back against him.

"This isn't up to you."

Mo Bai muttered, then casually kicked the Old Beggar's stomach as he tried to crawl away, making him curl up like a shrimp.

The bamboo tube waved in front of the resisting Beggar's nose. In no time, he fell unconscious and completely lost awareness.

"It works so fast. Just a sniff and it's effective? So powerful?"

"Good stuff, huh?"

At this moment, Mo Bai's eyes lit up, and he carefully put away all the small bottles.

He stood up and kicked the Old Beggar.

"Where did this Knockout Powder come from?"

"Sir, I don't know what Knockout Powder is. This Fainting Medicine was given to us by the gang."

"If you need it, it's yours. Please, just let us go."

The Old Beggar pleaded while kneeling on the ground.

"Gang?"

"Yes, we're from the Great Axe Gang."

"Oh, I see. Are the Beggars in other places part of your gang too?"

"Yes."

Hearing this, Mo Bai felt the money and Potions in his pocket, his eyes shining brightly!
