7: Chapter 7 Crystal Core
"Awooo!"
The Wolf King chewed on Mo Bai's heart, the metallic scent of blood permeating all its senses. After swallowing it whole, it raised its head and let out a long howl.
At that very moment, Mo Bai appeared out of thin air.
Revive!
"Die!"
The instant he revived, Mo Bai grabbed his Dagger and stabbed toward the Wolf King.
The Wolf King growled lowly, instinctively dodging.
But a sudden dizziness caused its steps to falter.
Seeing this, Mo Bai's eyes lit up.
"It worked!"
The Knockout Powder originally wrapped inside the heart had been eaten by the Wolf King, and after his revival, his heart disappeared, leaving only pure Knockout Powder in the Wolf King's stomach.
"Roar!"
The strange sensation made the Wolf King emit an uneasy growl. Seeing Fang Bai charging over, it instantly opened its mouth.
A fist-sized white Wind Blade formed in its mouth, shooting out in an instant. Upon contact with the air, it expanded, transforming into a giant Wind Blade that struck Mo Bai.
"Whoosh! Crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch!"
In an instant, Mo Bai seemed to have fallen into a meat grinder. Countless tiny Wind Blades sliced him into a thousand pieces, grinding even his bones into fragments.
"Awoo!"
The Wolf King let out a low growl as if to assert dominance, but the next moment, Mo Bai appeared again, grabbing his Spear and charging forward.
The somewhat unsteady Wolf King growled, its foot tripping over a tree root, failing to even dodge Mo Bai's attack.
"Squelch!"
The Spear left a bloody gash on the Wolf King's body. Just as Mo Bai was about to press his advantage and beat the drowning dog, the wolf pack charged forward.
The remaining seven wolves surrounded Mo Bai, emitting low growls.
Retreating behind the wolf pack, the Wolf King lay on the ground, slowly closing its eyes as if falling unconscious.
But Mo Bai felt an ominous premonition rising in his heart.
"No, I can't give it time!"
Mo Bai took a deep breath, gripped the Spear with both hands, and charged directly toward the Wolf King.
"Awoo!"
A wild wolf growled and instantly pounced, but the next moment, the sharp spearhead pierced through it, and the wolf corpse was tossed aside.
As he pulled out the Spear, it was as if he had eyes on his back. He suddenly stepped back, and the butt of the Spear forcefully struck the most vulnerable abdomen of another wild wolf.
"Awoo!"
"Awoo!"
"Awoo!"
Chaotic wolf howls mixed with Mo Bai's curses echoed. At the cost of only one death, all the wild wolves were killed on the spot.
He even used this to replenish his previous negative experience points, lifting his weakened state. His Spiritual Power also returned to eleven points—eleven points he hadn't had time to experience yet.
But there was no time to savor it now. Covered in blood, Mo Bai cracked his neck, gripped the now crimson Spear, and turned to look at the Wolf King lying on the ground.
"Now there are no other wolves standing in front of you."
As soon as Mo Bai finished speaking, the Wolf King abruptly opened its eyes. Its narrow wolf eyes swept over the corpses on the ground one by one, turning icy cold.
"Awooo!"
A mournful howl accompanied the howling wind. Mo Bai suddenly noticed faint whirlwinds swirling around the Wolf King's body.
"Transcendent..."
Seeing this, Mo Bai's eyes immediately turned sharp and grave.
He had done everything he could, but now was the most difficult moment.
"Awooo!"
A lonely wolf howl echoed with no response. The next instant, the Wolf King brushed past Mo Bai's body, the violent wind scraping his face painfully.
A tree trunk grazed by its wolf claws was instantly torn apart as if hit by a chainsaw.
But instead of being alarmed, Mo Bai was delighted.
"The Knockout Powder's effect hasn't been completely expelled; some of it is still working!"
At that moment, in just an instant, Mo Bai determined his strategy.
He focused all his spirit, extending his senses outward to gather every piece of data.
The surrounding trees, depressions and bumps on the ground, the flow of Wolf Blood, the Wolf King's position, the direction of the wind, and so on.
With eleven points of Spiritual Power, Mo Bai's perception had improved significantly.
All the data poured into his brain. At this moment, the ink box spun rapidly, almost leaving afterimages in his mind.
He couldn't catch up to the Wolf King's speed, nor could he dodge it.
Then he would dodge before the Wolf King moved.
Under normal circumstances, this was impossible, but the Wolf King's physical sluggishness under the Knockout Powder made it slightly possible.
A mere whiff of Knockout Powder could knock out a grown man, but nearly a hundred milliliters had been forced down to buy this sliver of possibility.
The Wolf King could make many mistakes, but he only had two chances.
Mo Bai glanced at his experience bar.
"Experience: 56/20."
If he died twice, his weakened state would cause his Spiritual Power to drop back to ten points, restoring the thinking speed, perception, and reaction speed appropriate for ten points.
"Awoo!"
"Thud!"
On this clearing not far from Oak Town, low wolf growls and dull collision sounds echoed.
The enraged attacks of the mournful Wolf King were repeatedly dodged, and Mo Bai even managed to inflict a wound in return.
With each collision, several trees were violently broken, but the whirlwinds swirling around the Wolf King's body also vanished without a trace.
"Awoo!"
Somewhat exhausted, the Wolf King couldn't help but stand still, its body swaying slightly.
"Hmm?"
Mo Bai thought of a possibility. Without hesitation, he instantly threw the Spear in his hand.
"Awoo!"
The Wolf King growled and sidestepped to dodge, but the Spear still scraped a bloody gash on its flank.
The next moment, its body swayed even more severely.
"The Knockout Powder hasn't worn off; the Wolf King was just forcing itself to stay alert. Now it's taking effect!"
Mo Bai's eyes instantly gleamed brightly as he charged forward.
But instantly...
"Roar!"
The Wolf King opened its mouth, and a Wind Blade shot out, instantly shredding him and killing him on the spot.
But hearing the death notification, Mo Bai was delighted instead of alarmed.
Because the Wolf King, after delivering the final blow, now stumbled and fell to the ground.
It had given out first!
"Finally, it's my turn!"
Excited, Mo Bai charged over, grabbed the Spear, and leaped into the air. At this moment... Spear Like a Dragon!
In just moments, the Wolf King, still struggling, was finally pierced through the heart by Mo Bai, draining its last ounce of strength.
"Huff! Huff! Huff! Huff!"
Looking at the Wolf King impaled by the Spear, Mo Bai gasped for breath.
Looking at the mess on the ground, at the wolf corpses.
Finally, looking at the pierced Wolf King corpse, he felt only relief.
"That was close, so close."
"If I hadn't killed all twenty-some wolves in the pack, the Wolf King would have run away long ago."
"If I hadn't obtained a large amount of Knockout Powder, I could have died countless times without wearing down the Wolf King."
"If the Wolf King didn't have the habit of eating hearts first, I wouldn't have had any chance to challenge it."
"But..."
Mo Bai pulled the Spear out of the Wolf King's body.
"I still won!"
"Transcendent Wolf King... taken down!"
A thumb-sized white aura rose from the Wolf King's body and merged into Mo Bai's. A notification appeared.
"experience points +31."
"Your level has increased."
"level: 2."
"experience points: 137/30."
"constitution: 8."
"Strength: 7."
"agility: 8."
"spirit: 11."
"charisma: 7."
"free attribute points: 1."
"Add to spirit attribute!"
Having tasted the benefits, Mo Bai added the free attribute point to his spirit attribute again.
"spirit: 12."
And the experience points were just a bonus. What truly attracted Mo Bai was... the transcendent.
When Mo Bai tried to skin the Wolf Skin with his Dagger, a prismatic crystal embedded in the wolf skull caught his attention.
"Is this... a crystal core?"
