386: Chapter 386 The Formation Destroys Itself, and the Little Girl Without Eyes Inside the Nine Nether Tower!
On a giant black and white checkered chessboard, a faint white light emanated. A phantom wearing a black and white Daoist robe floated in mid-air, its face blurred and indistinct.
"First step, who comes to seek death?" The phantom's voice was hollow, without a trace of the breath of the living.
Mary stood with her hands on her hips, the black bat wings on her back flapping forcefully as she prepared to fly into the air.
"Playing tricks, I'll tear you to pieces first." Mary's feet had just left the ground by half a meter.
Bang! An invisible wall of Qi appeared out of thin air in mid-air, slamming heavily onto the top of Mary's head. Mary cried out in surprise and was slapped directly back to the ground, her feet stepping once more on the black chessboard squares.
"Forbidden Air Domain. Those who do not follow the rules shall be punished," the phantom spoke slowly.
A bolt of silver lightning, as thick as a bucket, fell from the sky, heading straight for the top of Mary's head.
Chu Ling stepped forward, her ice-blue long dress fluttering. Her hands quickly formed seals, and a dark blue ice shield blocked the area above Mary. The lightning shattered the ice shield, dispersing into countless electric sparks.
The phantom ignored Chu Ling's obstruction, picking up a white chess piece with its right index and middle fingers and casually dropping it onto an intersection ahead.
A flash of white light. The chess piece transformed into a ten-meter-tall white stone giant. The giant held a heavy broad-bladed sword, its entire body covered in thick stone armor.
"Pawn advances one," the phantom issued the command.
The white stone giant took heavy steps, striding forward one square. With every step, the ground trembled.
Qin Xueji stood beside Bai Li, her hands tightly clutching the hem of her clothes. Facing the unknown and eerie Formation, her heart was filled with tension.
Su Yang stood with his hands behind his back, his expression very calm. Looking at the stone giant ahead, a trace of mockery flashed in his eyes.
"Playing chess? Su Yang never acts according to others' rules."
Su Yang did not use Pure Yang True Fire to smash it. Dealing with a Formation that operated based on rules, although brute force could break it, it could easily cause the suspended plaza beneath their feet to completely collapse and fall into a bottomless abyss.
A faint silver light flickered at the center of Su Yang's brow. The power of the Law of Space from the world king bead instantly surged through his feet into the black and white chessboard beneath them.
"Rewrite coordinates," Su Yang whispered four words.
Rumble!
The entire giant chessboard began to shake violently. A dazzling scene occurred.
The hundreds and thousands of black and white squares on the chessboard seemed to turn into a scrambled Rubik's Cube, beginning to move and reorganize frantically. A square that was black one second would instantly shift dozens of meters away the next. The squares squeezed against each other, making a piercing grinding sound.
The phantom was stunned, a hint of panic showing on its blurred face. The Life and Death Chess Formation relied on fixed coordinates to determine life and death. Now that the coordinates were in chaos, the core of the Formation instantly became paralyzed.
The white stone giant that had just taken a step suddenly found the square beneath its feet shifting to the left. The stone giant stepped into empty space, falling directly into the gap between the squares.
"Violating rules, obliteration."
The Formation automatically triggered its punishment mechanism. Several bolts of silver lightning descended from the sky, striking the white stone giant fiercely. The ten-meter-tall giant didn't even have a chance to resist, being directly struck into a pile of rubble by the Formation's own punishment mechanism, which then scattered with the wind.
"How is this possible! What kind of trickery did you use!" the phantom let out a terrified scream. Its hands waved repeatedly, grabbing a dozen white chess pieces and throwing them all onto the chessboard like scattering flowers.
White light flashed continuously.
Chariots, stone horses, giant cannons. Over a dozen giant stone statues of various shapes appeared on the chessboard. The statues held massive weapons, surrounding Su Yang and the others.
Before the phantom could issue an attack command.
Su Yang exerted force through his feet again. The speed of the chessboard squares' movement instantly increased tenfold.
The chariot statue was just about to charge when the path ahead instantly turned into an invisible wall of air. The chariot crashed into the wall and was smashed to pieces.
The stone horse jumped into the air, but its landing point turned into a deep black hole, and it fell straight in.
The giant cannon had just condensed an energy orb when the square beneath it suddenly flipped, pointing the muzzle directly at the phantom itself.
Boom!
The energy orb exploded. The phantom was blown back, tumbling several times in mid-air, its body becoming very dim, as if it could dissipate at any moment.
"The Formation is broken! This is impossible!" the phantom let out a desperate roar.
Su Yang stepped on the constantly moving black and white squares as if walking on level ground. Whenever a square moved over, Su Yang could always accurately step in the very center. His pace was steady, unaffected by any interference.
In just over ten seconds, Su Yang had already crossed the chaotic chessboard and arrived before the phantom.
"Game over."
Su Yang reached out his right hand and grabbed the phantom's neck.
No flames were used. The space power of the world king bead gathered in his palm, forming a miniature spatial black hole.
The phantom let out a shrill scream as its entire body was forcibly distorted and pulled by the spatial black hole, finally being sucked into the black hole and completely ground into nothingness. Not even a speck of ash was left behind.
With the controller dead, the entire black and white chessboard made a crisp sound like breaking glass.
Crack.
The hundreds-of-meters-wide giant chessboard shattered instantly, dispersing into a sky full of light spots.
Everyone stepped back onto the hard bluestone slabs. Gravity returned to normal.
Ahead, a pitch-black high tower stood in the darkness. The tower's door was wide open, with a faint yellow light emanating from within.
Above the doorframe, two ancient characters were written: "Nine Nether."
Mary rubbed her shoulders and landed beside Su Yang.
"What trick did the Boss use just now? The squares on the ground were spinning so much I felt dizzy. These statues are so stupid, they killed themselves."
Qin Xueji let out a long breath, walked to Bai Li's side, and wiped the cold sweat from her forehead.
Bai Li's purple eyes flickered as she gently waved the circular fan in her hand, a gentle smile on her face.
"Su Yang's mastery of the Law of Space is becoming more and more proficient. He broke the ancient remnant Formation without shedding a drop of blood. Everyone follow closely; the situation inside the tower is unknown, so we must remain vigilant."
Su Yang didn't speak, leading the way into the open black door.
There were no stairs inside the tower. Nor were there any magnificent decorations.
In sight was a giant circular space. On the surrounding walls, thousands of square niches had been densely carved out.
In every niche, there was a transparent Glass Jar.
The jars were filled with pale green preservative liquid. In the very center of the liquid, human brains were being soaked!
Thousands of brains floated up and down in the Glass Jars. Tiny threads emitting a faint blue light extended from the bottom of the brains, all connecting to a giant copper pillar in the center of the tower's ceiling.
Blue light was continuously sent upward along the threads, as if providing some special nourishment to the copper pillar.
The entire space was filled with a pungent smell of chemicals and an indescribably eerie atmosphere.
Seeing the wall full of jars, Qin Xueji's stomach churned. She quickly covered her mouth, forcing down the urge to vomit.
Chu Ling's delicate brows furrowed, her ice-blue long dress swaying slightly in the cold wind.
"Digging out human brains and soaking them in water while still keeping them active. The methods are extremely cruel, used to extract memories and Mental Energy from before death," Chu Ling's voice was cold.
Su Yang's gaze swept over the Glass Jars on the wall, his eyes calm.
Just then.
In the very center of the circular space, from behind a broken stone pillar, came the faint sound of a needle and thread being pulled.
Rustle, rustle.
A little girl wearing tattered grey cloth clothes sat in the shadow of the stone pillar.
The girl looked to be only eleven or twelve years old. Holding a rusty long needle, she had her head down, very seriously sewing something.
Everyone walked closer to take a look.
What the girl was sewing in her hands was actually a complete human skin!
Hearing the footsteps, the little girl stopped her movements. She slowly raised her head to face Su Yang and the others.
The little girl's face had no eyes.
The sockets were sewn shut tightly with coarse black thread. Dark red blood dripped onto her grey cloth clothes from the stitches.
She grinned, revealing a row of sharp, serrated teeth.
"Dear guests, have you come to bring me new fabric? My doll happens to be missing a few pretty face skins," the little girl's voice was clear, yet it carried an underlying creepiness that made one's scalp tingle.
