61: The Uses of Spies
Inside Laiselo Temple, the three old men were still deliberating when a guard wearing armor, leather boots, and holding a Seven-Star Precious Sword hurried in.
"Report, there is an abnormal event in the direction of the Lords Mansion. A huge, strange building has risen from the ground!" the guard reported in terror.
"He has only just arrived, how could he have built any structure?" Grand Duke James said dismissively.
"Alright, let's go and take a look!" Emperor Alexander was the first to walk outside.
Outside the temple, the three old men looked at the huge building, each with a complex mix of feelings.
"This Wei He, how did he manage to do this? It really is strange!" Grand Duke James widened his eyes as he watched another, taller building rise from the ground, standing right next to the base in an instant.
"There is another one. What on earth is this Wei He up to?" Grand Duke William looked at the additional Su Army Barracks and asked in confusion.
"Is there some kind of conspiracy here?" Grand Duke James asked, worried.
"Enough, building two houses, what kind of conspiracy could there be? It's just that the construction time was a bit short! Leave him be!" Emperor Alexander said dismissively. Building two houses was indeed not illegal; would he really have him arrested just because he built them quickly? That would be too absurd, thought Emperor Alexander.
Meanwhile, Wei He, who was at the Lords Mansion, looked at the newly completed Su Army Barracks in the front yard, feeling a bit more secure. Although he knew this was very high-profile, he had no other choice for his own safety. If it weren't for the lack of space, he would have liked to build the War Factory as well; after all, the Harsh Forest was too far away from him.
Under Wei He's orders, one Spy after another walked out of the Su Army Barracks. Since they were now temporarily cooperating with the Magic Empire, Spies could be said to be the most useful. After all, Yuri could only control low-level mages and civilians; to steal information from high-level mages, one had to rely on Spies.
Firstly, Spies had no energy signature and would not be suspected by high-level mages. Secondly, the mimicry ability of the Spies was heaven-defying; they could turn into anyone, and could even turn into dogs, pigs, cows, sheep, camels... and so on. As long as it was a living creature that the red alert system could detect, they could mimic it.
He built twenty or thirty Spies in one go. These Spies were dressed in black suits, their hair neatly combed, and they wore black leather shoes on their feet. The shoe surfaces were polished until they gleamed, while the soles had been specially treated so that they made almost no sound when stepping on the ground, making it convenient for them to pass through enemy camps silently.
"I don't care what methods you use, in short, you must find out all the information about every official in the capital, their daily food, clothing, housing, and transportation, as well as the documents they come into contact with. Is that understood?" Wei He looked at these men in suits and said solemnly.
"Understood! Guarantee to complete the mission, Commander!" After pledging their loyalty, these Spies ran out the door one after another. On the way, some turned into the shape of dogs, and others turned into the shape of the residents of Phoenix Mountain.
This was also requested by Wei He. After all, there were few people in this world who looked exactly the same. If they all turned into the appearance of people from the capital, it would be easy to be suspected. Therefore, finding residents from far away to mimic reduced the chance of encountering them, and thus reduced the chance of being suspected.
In the following period, Wei He handled events in the Harsh Forest jurisdiction while planting Spies in the residences of important ministers.
For places like the mansions of Grand Duke James, Grand Duke William, and the imperial palace, it was as difficult as ascending to heaven to mix in with a new identity, so they could only borrow the identities of the old servants in their mansions.
A Spy turned into a dog and arrived at Grand Duke James's mansion. Walter was a servant in the mansion who had been working there for several years. As the saying goes, 'a dog relies on its master's power,' and every day, using his status as a servant in Grand Duke James's mansion, he bullied the common people. If he encountered someone tough, he would run faster than anyone, but when he encountered commoners, he would extort them.
Walter often played with this dog (the Spy), and through several days of observation, the Spy understood Walter's living habits and daily work content.
Taking advantage of the time when Walter went out, the Spy turned into his appearance, and the real Walter, with Wei He's cooperation, was tied up by Huang Yichen and Bozi Youning and taken to the wilderness, where a Radiation Engineer was waiting for him.
The hog-tied Walter begged with tears in his eyes: "Don't kill me! I am a servant in Grand Duke James's mansion. As long as you don't kill me, I can bring you good things. There are so many good things in his mansion! Hehehe!"
"We don't want things, we just need you to do us a favor!" The voice of the Radiation Engineer rang out, and Walter felt a cold sensation, his hair standing on end.
"Okay, okay, okay, I'll help, I'll definitely help!" Walter seemed to see the hope of living and said excitedly. He thought it was just some other figure who wanted to know the situation inside Grand Duke James's mansion.
"It's good that you're willing to help!" the Radiation Engineer said coldly.
"Yes, yes, yes, definitely will help, please untie me first!" Walter said happily.
"I'll untie you now!" The Radiation Engineer aimed the barrel of the Radiation Cannon at Walter on the ground, and a green radiation ray shot onto Walter's body.
After a scream of "Ah!", only a puddle of green pus remained on the ground where Walter had been.
Relying on this method, after the Spies became familiar with the butler, the warehouse staff, and others, Wei He sent new Spies to impersonate them, while the real individuals were all turned into a puddle of green pus in the wilderness. No one in this world would ever be able to find them again.
When Wei He saw the situation in Grand Duke James's warehouse through these Spies, he immediately understood why the Magic Empire was declining year by year. Even without Wei He's Red Alert Troops and the invasion of the Demon Clan, it felt like this empire wouldn't last long.
The warehouse was piled full of sparkling Magic Crystals and bright yellow gold, neatly arranged on the shelves. There were even more large crates containing various rare treasures and precious medicinal herbs from this continent. The size of the warehouse made even Wei He marvel; it was a huge underground warehouse the size of five football fields.
"This old guy is even greedier than me. Indeed, to be an official, one must be a high-ranking official, one must go to the capital to be an official! So many treasures, if converted into red alert exchange points, how many exchange points would that be!" Wei He exclaimed, muttering to himself.
As for other mansions, for those who liked to keep dogs, the Spies directly turned into dogs and lurked inside, waiting for an opportunity to steal information. After all, when these officials were dealing with various information, they would not pay attention to the pets around them.
In short, these Spies used all kinds of methods to mix into the homes of various officials in the capital, and Wei He gave them the greatest support; it could be said that he gave money when they wanted money and gave people when they wanted people.
For some tricky problems, Wei He even risked being discovered and dispatched Chrono Legionnaires. Although some people could sense the fluctuation of space energy, the people who disappeared were all replaced by Spies disguised as the missing persons, so no trouble was caused.
Through the intelligence provided by these Spies and the funds seized, Wei He quickly grasped the weaknesses of most officials and bought an entire forest outside the capital to build Ore Refineries to digest the huge wealth he had greedily acquired.
