9: Base Crisis and Visitors
Three months have passed like a fleeting shadow since the battle at Sentry Mountain, where Charlie was defeated. During these three months, Wei He indulged in the joy of hunting and exploring, encountering countless novel animals and experiencing the wonders of this world. Simultaneously, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to base construction. Hundreds of armored mining vehicles and Chrono mining vehicles operated tirelessly day and night, their roar echoing across the vast land south of Riquan River. Metal ore was continuously excavated, yet even so, it only increased his exchange points by a mere 200,000.
Wei He stood in the control room, his gaze fixed on the screen displaying the number of exchange points. Over 200,000 exchange points, a considerable sum in the game system, seemed so insignificant in this world fraught with danger and unknowns. Recalling Charlie's terrifying combat power, capable of destroying tanks with his bare hands, Wei He couldn't help but feel a chill. He knew that if a few more powerful enemies like Charlie appeared, these 200,000 exchange points might not even be enough to put up a resistance. Now, acquiring more metal ore and accumulating more exchange points had become the most urgent task. Riquan City, due to unknown dangers and complex situations, was temporarily an inaccessible place for him. He pinned his hopes on bypassing Riquan City, but Sentry Bridge was heavily guarded, making passage impossible. After much deliberation, setting off by sea became the only option.
Wei He walked out of the control room, gazing at the Soviet and Allied Forces faction buildings standing tall within the base. Soldiers continuously emerged from the barracks, undergoing training; in the War Factory, the roar of various battle vehicles was incessant; radar towers stood high, constantly vigilant of their surroundings; in the technology laboratory, flickering lights and busy figures indicated continuous technological progress. Now, all buildings of both major factions had been fully constructed, and to implement the maritime strategy, a shipyard had even been built a hundred miles away, by the sea near Demon Forging Valley.
Just as Wei He was troubled by the scarcity of exchange points, uninvited guests appeared near Ancient Tree Mountain—two scouts from Riquan City. Over the past three months, dozens of people who came to gather intelligence had been captured by Red Alert Troops. Little did they know that Wei He possessed the God's Eye view granted by the red alert system; the moment they stepped into Ancient Tree Mountain, they had already entered Wei He's sight.
In the forest, a man and a woman were cautiously moving about. The man had a waterfall of golden-blonde hair, a handsome face, and a slender physique draped in a white robe, exuding handsomeness and majesty in every gesture. The woman had curly emerald-green hair, large twinkling eyes that seemed to hold stars, and a slightly pouting cherry mouth. Dressed in a magician's attire, despite being somewhat disheveled, she still couldn't hide her unique charm. She pouted unhappily and complained coquettishly, "I heard dozens of people have already gone in ahead of us, and none have come back alive. How unlucky, that we got stuck with this task!" Her expression was a mix of complaint and a touch of cuteness.
"Uh, Linlin, we just need to be careful and bring the message back." The White-Robed Man muttered timidly, a hint of fear in his eyes, "I heard Aaron is a devil who kills without batting an eye, and he's also a rapist!"
"What! A rapist!" Linlin's anger flared instantly upon hearing this, almost wanting to hit her muddled captain. She said fiercely, "I hate these scumbags who bully women the most!"
Just then, a ferocious roar broke the forest's tranquility. Linlin trembled all over and stammered, "Isn't that the sound of a Seven-Colored Golden Shadow Tiger?" Just as she was about to run, she saw the more than five-meter-tall Seven-Colored Golden Shadow Tiger pouncing directly at her with bared fangs and claws, its sharp roar painfully deafening her eardrums. In the moment before she closed her eyes, Linlin only saw a huge claw just 0.01 centimeters away from her!
The White-Robed Man was terrified, trembling as he pulled out the knife he carried, ready to fight the fierce magical beast to the death. Just as the Seven-Colored Golden Shadow Tiger's claw was about to grab Linlin, a bizarre scene unfolded: time seemed to freeze, and the huge colorful claw abruptly stopped in mid-air. Linlin could even feel something sharp pressing against her, her heart filled with fear and confusion. Several seconds passed, but the anticipated death did not arrive. She hesitantly opened her eyes, and a terrified scream escaped her lips, "Ah!"
"Who's there?" The White-Robed Man vigilantly stared at the figure that had suddenly appeared. He saw a person in a strange white outfit holding an unusual weapon, which emitted a white ray that enveloped the Seven-Colored Golden Shadow Tiger's body. As time passed, the tiger's body gradually became illusory and transparent, eventually disappearing completely, as if it had never existed.
The Chrono Legionnaire wore a futuristic white combat suit. This suit utilized advanced chrono-protective materials, not only resisting the spacetime distortion waves generated during chrono-teleportation but also possessing excellent protective performance. The helmet completely encased his head, with blue indicator lights flashing on it like stars in the deep night sky, indicating the intricate and complex technological structure within. His face was obscured by a black visor, preventing anyone from seeing his eyes, adding a touch of mystery.
In his hand, he tightly gripped a uniquely shaped Chrono Gun. This gun was his signature weapon and the key to his chrono-attacks. The gun's body was streamlined, its surface covered with intricate patterns and flashing energy nodes, as if containing the mysteries of the entire universe, ready to completely erase enemies from this spacetime at any moment.
Before the two could recover and inquire about the situation, rustling sounds came from the woods. They immediately became vigilant, unconsciously placing their hands on the knives at their waists. Soon after, more than a dozen identical figures emerged from the woods; these were the Conscripts sent by Wei He.
A moment later, deep in the forest, Linlin and the White-Robed Man were brought to Wei He's base. Initially, they intended to resist, but after seeing the Chrono Legionnaire who could instantly kill the Seven-Colored Golden Shadow Tiger, they wisely put down their weapons and obediently followed the Conscripts to the place they had originally intended to scout. What surprised them even more was that the strange white figure, who had performed what seemed like a long-lost spatial magic, also vanished after erasing the Seven-Colored Golden Shadow Tiger, as if he had never existed. This miraculous scene left them dumbfounded, filled with shock and doubt.
Wei He was in high spirits at this moment, striding out with a distinctive bald man following behind him. This man had a broad forehead with a unique imprint consisting of three Hebrew letters. Beneath thick eyebrows were deep, sharp blue eyes, as if capable of seeing into people's hearts. A small goatee added a touch of solemnity and cunning to his appearance. He was about 175cm tall, dressed in a black high-collared uniform with golden decorative lines outlining its solemnity and splendor, and a red tie added a bright splash of color to the overall look. He wore black trousers and leather shoes, exuding an extraordinary demeanor in his simple yet elegant attire.
"Welcome, both of you, to my base," Wei He said with a smile, his eyes showing confidence and composure. "I think we can have a good chat." Linlin and the White-Robed Man exchanged glances, their hearts filled with apprehension, wondering what awaited them...
