104: Chapter 104 Godslayer
The point of light drew closer and closer.
Chen Mo walked toward it alone, the voices of the Chosen Ones behind him fading into the distance. Iron Bear shouted something, but he could not make it out. Eagle Eye's sniper scope glinted, Shadow vanished into the darkness, and the Knight raised his sword only to lower it again. They knew this was a battle he had to fight alone.
The point of light was right before him.
It was not the Source of the Sequence, not an Agent, not Zhang Yuan, nor that child. It was something very small—the size of a fist, golden, with a surface smooth as a mirror. Within it were reflected countless scenes: the day the Ghost Realm descended, the crack that split the sky, the moment those golden lines fell. There were even earlier scenes—the appearance of the first Chosen One, the birth of the first Ghost Shadow, the establishment of the first Trading Post. And even earlier still—when this Void Realm was just a blank slate, empty of everything, with only this point of light suspended in the nothingness, waiting for something.
The will of the ghost realm itself.
Chen Mo reached out, his fingertips touching the surface of the light. It was cold, smooth, like touching a mirror. All those scenes flooded into his mind—not the memories of one person, but of everyone. Everyone who had died in the Ghost Realm, everyone who was alive, every Observer. Those memories surged like a tide.
He saw the first Observer. It was not human, but a ball of light, drifting in the Void Realm for a very, very long time. Then it discovered another point of light, and then more. They gathered together to form a massive network. They began to observe lower-dimensional worlds, observing those beings with bodies and emotions. They did not understand those things—why would someone die for another? Why would someone persist in despair? Why would someone choose to give up immortality?
Chen Mo opened his eyes. The point of light was still in his palm, those memories still in his mind. Within the Pupil of the Sequence, the source of those rule lines lay inside this point of light. As long as he destroyed it, the Ghost Realm would vanish. Those Ghost Shadows would vanish, those rules would vanish, and those Observers would vanish too.
But he would also vanish.
Because he was the Sequence Overlord, and he was already connected to this point of light.
"You know the consequences." A voice echoed in his mind. It was not the will of the ghost realm, but his own voice.
Chen Mo did not speak.
"Destroy it, and you will die too," the voice said. "Is it worth it?"
Chen Mo looked at the point of light in his palm. Those images were still reflecting—a woman holding a child, standing at the entrance of the Orphanage, crying for a long time. Then she placed the child on the steps and turned away.
He remembered the words on the back of that photo.
"Chen Mo, I'm sorry. Mom loves you."
He closed his eyes. Then opened them.
"It is worth it."
He clenched his fist.
The point of light shattered.
The fragments drifted from between his fingers like golden snowflakes, scattering into the Void Realm. Those rule lines began to snap, one by one, like cut harp strings. Those memories began to fade, one person's at a time, like pencil marks being erased. Chen Mo felt his own body disappearing—those golden lines surged from within him, drifting away with the fragments.
The Serialization progress was rising rapidly.
30%. 50%. 70%. 90%.
He did not stop. He kept his fist clenched, continuing to let those fragments scatter.
Serialization progress 100%.
His body began to glow, starting from his chest; those golden rays pierced through his skin, illuminating the entire Void Realm. He saw his hands becoming transparent, starting from his fingertips, bit by bit, like melting ice.
In the distance, the Chosen Ones were shouting his name. Iron Bear rushed over, only to be pushed back by the scattering fragments. Eagle Eye fired his rifle; the bullet passed through the Void Realm, hitting nothing. Shadow appeared beside him, reaching out to grab him, but his hand passed through Chen Mo's body.
He was no longer a physical entity.
Chen Mo looked at them and smiled.
"Don't come over."
He turned, looking at the disintegrating Void Realm. Those rules were collapsing, those sequences were dissipating, those Ghost Shadows were vanishing. The people trapped in Origin City, the people who had died in the Ghost Realm, the forgotten memories—all were vanishing.
But it was not vanishing. It was freedom.
Chen Mo closed his eyes. Those memories flashed in his mind one last time—the winter when he was five, Teacher Li's hands were very warm. At the entrance of the Orphanage, the woman's back was very thin. The words on the back of the photo were crooked. And the days in the Ghost Realm, the first time he killed a Ghost Shadow, the first time he entered a Trading Post, the first time he met Old Li, the first time he entered the Source of the Sequence. Those fears, those angers, those sorrows, those joys.
Everything, in this moment, became very light.
He opened his eyes. His body had almost disappeared, from his feet up, to his legs, his waist, his chest. Those golden rays became brighter and brighter, like a burning sun.
He took one last look at those people. Iron Bear was crying, Eagle Eye was bowing his head, Shadow stood in the distance, his expression unclear. Lin Wei stood the furthest away, not crying, just watching him.
Chen Mo wanted to say something, but he could no longer make a sound. He just smiled.
Then he disappeared.
The golden rays disappeared as well. The Void Realm began to collapse, those fragments scattering in all directions. The Chosen Ones were pushed out of the Void Realm by a force, pushed out of the Source of the Sequence, pushed out through that golden door.
They stood on the open ground outside the door, watching that door slowly close, slowly vanish.
In the end, there was nothing left.
Only a patch of open ground and a gray sky.
Iron Bear knelt on the ground, his iron rod dropping to the side. Eagle Eye lowered his sniper rifle and sat on the ground. Shadow walked out from the darkness and stood in the center of the open ground, motionless. The Knight took off his helmet, the Ranger closed his eyes, and the Hunter bowed his head.
Lin Wei stood where she was, watching the direction where the door had vanished. She did not cry, just stood there.
For a long, long time.
Then she turned and walked toward the pickup truck.
She sat in the driver's seat and started the engine. The pickup truck drove toward the way they had come. In the rearview mirror, the open ground grew smaller and smaller.
Chen Mo was dead.
But he lived. In everyone's memories. In the hearts of those he had saved. On this endless road.
In the distance, the sun was rising.
Golden light shone on the road.
It was a new road.
No one had walked it before.
But someone would keep walking it.
[Sequence Master · Chen Mo] [S-rank Sequence Overlord] [Ghost Realm Terminator] [Global Announcement: The Ghost Realm has disintegrated. All survivors will be teleported back to their original worlds within 24 hours. Repeat, the Ghost Realm has disintegrated. All survivors will be teleported back to their original worlds within 24 hours.]
The channel remained silent for a long time.
Then Iron Bear replied with one word: "Good."
Eagle Eye: "Received."
Shadow: "Understood."
Knight: "Understood."
Ranger: "Thank you."
Hunter: "Thank you."
And countless others typed the same word in the channel: "Thank you."
Thank you to the person who walked until the very end alone. Thank you to the person who let them return home alive.
Lin Wei drove the pickup truck along the gray road. She did not know where this road led. But she knew she would keep driving. Because this was his road. And it was her road too.
Ahead, the sun was rising. Golden light shone on the road.
At the end of the road, there was a shadow.
Very small, very far away. But it was definitely there.
Lin Wei stepped on the gas.
The pickup truck accelerated forward.
The shadow drew closer and closer.
Finally, she saw clearly.
It was a person.
Standing on the side of the road, back turned to her. Wearing that familiar jacket, holding that cleaver in his hand.
Lin Wei stopped the car. The person turned around.
It was Chen Mo.
But not the Chen Mo from before. His body was translucent, those golden lines flowing within him like veins, like blood. But his eyes were still those same eyes—calm, firm, with a hint of golden light.
"You..." Lin Wei froze.
Chen Mo smiled. "I didn't die."
He raised his hand, looking at those golden lines. "Serialization 100%, but it wasn't disappearance. It was becoming another kind of existence."
He lowered his hand. "I am the Sequence Master. Not S-rank, but the Sequence itself."
Lin Wei looked at him, and tears finally fell. "Then you..."
Chen Mo turned, looking at the road. "I have to go."
"Where to?"
Chen Mo did not speak. He just looked at the end of the road. There was a patch of light there, golden and warm.
"To end everything," he said. "Those Observers, those higher-dimensional beings. They are still watching other worlds, doing the same things."
He turned and looked at Lin Wei. "Help me tell Iron Bear and the others, thank you."
Lin Wei nodded.
Chen Mo smiled. He turned and walked toward that light. He walked a few steps, stopped, and looked back.
"Also, that photo, please keep it safe for me."
Lin Wei was stunned. "What photo?"
Chen Mo did not answer. He just smiled, then stepped into the light.
He disappeared.
Lin Wei stood where she was, watching the direction where he had disappeared. For a long, long time.
Then she turned and walked back to the pickup truck. She sat in the driver's seat and started the engine. The pickup truck drove toward the way they had come.
In the rearview mirror, that light grew further and further away.
She reached out and felt her pocket.
Inside was a photo. A yellowed photo with curled edges. On the photo was a young woman holding an infant.
On the back was written a line of text.
"Chen Mo, I'm sorry. Mom loves you."
Lin Wei held the photo and stepped on the gas.
The pickup truck drove along the gray road. Ahead was the road home.
And his road continued. In another world, in another dimension, in every place that needed him.
Sequence Master.
Not an end.
A beginning.
