59: Chapter 59 The Death of the Pharmacist
When Chen Mo returned to the Trial Tower, it was the evening of the next day.
He pushed open that door and walked into the huge space where the Apothecary resided.
But it was different inside.
The shelves had toppled over, the instruments were shattered, and various Materials were scattered all over the floor.
It looked as if it had been ransacked by something.
Chen Mo's heart sank.
He gripped his cleaver tightly and walked quickly inside.
In the center of the space, the Apothecary was sitting on the ground, leaning against the pile of ruins.
His head hung low, and there was a huge wound on his chest.
It was still bleeding.
Golden blood.
Chen Mo rushed over and knelt in front of him.
"Old man!"
The Apothecary slowly raised his head.
His face was covered in blood, but his eyes were still open.
He saw Chen Mo, and the corners of his mouth twitched.
It was as if he were smiling.
"You... have returned."
Chen Mo took out a first-aid kit, wanting to press down on his wound.
But the Apothecary pushed his hand away.
"It's useless." His voice was very soft. "It found me."
"Who?"
"The will of the ghost realm," the Apothecary said. "It knows I have been researching the perfect sequence potion."
He coughed, spitting out some golden liquid.
"It doesn't want this thing to be completed."
Chen Mo was silent for a few seconds.
"Hold on, I'll take you out of here."
The Apothecary shook his head.
"We can't get out." He pointed to the broken instruments around them. "This place has already been sealed off."
He reached out and pulled something from his bosom.
It was a syringe.
It was filled with pale golden liquid.
It was identical to the previous one.
But the color was deeper and thicker.
"The perfect sequence potion," the Apothecary said. "The finished product."
Chen Mo was stunned.
"Didn't you say..."
"I lied to you." The Apothecary smiled. "It was finished long ago. It only lacked the final step."
He shoved the syringe into Chen Mo's hand.
"The final step is to give it to you."
Chen Mo looked at the syringe.
【perfect sequence potion · Finished Product】
【Effect: Can raise sequence Rank by one level without side effects】
【Usage Restriction: None】
No restrictions.
This meant it could be used from Rank C to Rank S.
"Why?" Chen Mo asked.
The Apothecary looked at him, his eyes filled with complex emotions.
"Because you are the only one worth giving it to."
He coughed again.
"Those who wanted to snatch it are all dead."
"Those who wanted to trick me are also dead."
"Only you returned with the items."
His voice was growing weaker.
Chen Mo gripped his hand tightly.
"Is there anything else you want to say?"
The Apothecary was silent for a few seconds.
Then he spoke.
"The key to breaking the cycle is in your eyes."
Chen Mo was taken aback.
"What?"
But the Apothecary did not speak again.
He just looked at Chen Mo with a faint smile on his lips.
Then he closed his eyes.
【Apothecary has died】
【Obtained: perfect sequence potion × 1】
【Obtained: Apothecary's Research Notes × 1】
Chen Mo stood where he was, looking at the corpse.
For a long, long time.
Then he stood up and put the syringe away.
He squatted down and picked up the research notes.
He flipped to the first page.
A line of text was written on it:
"Dedicated to the successor."
"I hope you can accomplish what I could not."
Chen Mo closed the notes and put them in his pocket.
He turned around and walked toward the door.
When he reached the door, he looked back.
The Apothecary was still sitting there, leaning against the ruins.
Like a weary old man finally able to rest.
Chen Mo pushed open the door and walked out.
Outside, Lin Wei was waiting for him.
Seeing his expression, she was taken aback.
"What's wrong?"
Chen Mo did not speak.
He just got into the pickup truck and started the engine.
Lin Wei got into the passenger seat.
The pickup truck drove off into the distance.
In the rearview mirror, the tower grew further and further away.
Chen Mo gripped the steering wheel, his eyes fixed on the road ahead.
The key to breaking the cycle is in your eyes.
What did this sentence mean?
He did not know.
But he would find the answer.
