81: Old Sun requested an audience

The thing Sun Kai regretted most right now was falling for Zhang Linlin; otherwise, none of this might have happened.

Although the two of them hadn't actually done anything and there was no possibility of it in the future, how could he let her get her way?

Jiang Chuan patted Zhang Linlin's small hand, stood up, walked around her, and headed toward the door.

"Let's go. Doesn't Old Sun want to see me?"

Sun Kai nodded, glanced at the woman glaring at him, and turned to follow him out of the hospital room.

"Wait a moment."

Jiang Chuan called a nurse and asked her to help look after Zhang Linlin before following Sun Kai to Old Sun's room.

Neither of them spoke along the way; there wasn't much to say. After all, they had become enemies on the very first day he was reborn.

Sun Kai pushed the door open and said, "Go on in. I'll wait outside."

Jiang Chuan nodded and entered the room. Seeing Old Sun with his breath as thin as a thread, he sat in a familiar chair and waited for the man to speak.

A faint smile squeezed onto Sun Zhenfeng's aged face as he spoke slowly, "Why is President Jiang so quiet? I'm not quite used to it."

"We were enemies before, so naturally, I pulled out all the stops. In truth, I'm not much of a talker."

Sun Zhenfeng coughed violently twice before nodding. "Why did you target Sunset? Just because Xiao Kai stole your girlfriend?"

"I didn't target Sunset; you just happened to be in my way."

"A formidable figure indeed!"

Sun Zhenfeng sighed; the answer was much like what he had imagined. He looked at Jiang Chuan with clouded eyes and whispered, "I sought you out because I want to ask a favor of you."

"The grudge has been settled. We have no connection anymore."

Jiang Chuan didn't state his stance, giving a nonchalant reply that seemed completely irrelevant.

Hearing this, Sun Zhenfeng was actually quite happy; this was likely his happiest moment in a long time.

"Xiao Kai won't oppose you anymore, and he won't work in this industry either. Could you let him go?"

"As long as he doesn't provoke me, fine."

Sun Zhenfeng took out a stack of documents from the bedside and handed them over. "These are the contracts for all of Sunset's employees and Streamers. A lawyer has already been arranged. Consider this my gift of thanks."

Jiang Chuan didn't stand on ceremony. He took the documents and stood up to leave.

"Xiao Kai!"

Sun Kai hurriedly pushed the door open to see his father lying in bed with a smile he hadn't seen in a very long time, as if he had finally laid down the burden on his shoulders.

Sun Zhenfeng struggled to sit up and said weakly, "From now on, you are not allowed to provoke President Jiang, and you are especially not allowed to provoke that girl, Linlin. Do you understand?"

"I understand!"

"Swear it!"

"I, Sun Kai, swear..."

Sun Zhenfeng looked at his son with soft eyes, but he couldn't protect him forever. He looked back and said, "President Jiang, rest assured, although Xiao Kai isn't much of a person, he is still a man of his word."

Jiang Chuan said nothing and turned to leave the room. As he passed Sun Kai, he heard him say something, nodded, and walked straight toward Zhang Linlin's room.

"Nothing ever happened between her and me. Tell her I'm sorry for me."

Jiang Chuan walked to the door of the hospital room but didn't go in. He went to the window and looked in the direction of the Sunset.

He remembered the high-spirited way Old Sun looked in front of the media.

He remembered the wretched way Old Sun looked when he was pinned to the ground by security guards.

He remembered the way Old Sun looked when he was caught sneaking into Silver Star.

He remembered how Old Sun looked when he was so enraged by him in the hospital that he spat blood.

He remembered how Old Sun looked when he knelt without hesitation for his son.

And finally, the way he looked as a kind, elderly man on his deathbed, his breath as thin as a thread.

Walking back into the room, he sighed, "I don't agree with you. I might not be a formidable figure, but you certainly are."

Seeing him return, Zhang Linlin sat up and asked hurriedly, "What did they want with you? Did Sun Kai say anything out of line?"

Jiang Chuan placed the documents on the laptop on the sofa before sitting back in the chair and rubbing his temples. "Old Sun might not hold on much longer. Sun Kai asked me to apologize to you."

Hearing this, Zhang Linlin lay back on the bed. She also thought of the old man who had knelt before her. Her heart felt heavy, and she didn't speak for a long time.

Not long after, the door was pushed open, and a voice full of energy pierced through.

"Ta-da! Did my Boyfriend and best friend miss me?"

Jiang Chuan had finally managed to feel a bit sentimental, but it was shattered in less than ten minutes. He rolled his eyes at the newcomer, stood up to give up his seat, and sat on the sofa.

Infected by the lively voice, Zhang Linlin stopped thinking about other people's affairs and said with a smile, "Qiqi, you're here! What did you do today?"

Feng Qiqi sat on the warm chair. Her already short hip-hugging skirt rode up a bit more, but fortunately, she was wearing safety pants, so she didn't expose herself.

"I went to a wealthy girl's house today, and it was spectacular! A whole wall of shoe cabinets, a walk-in closet full of designer clothes, a vanity packed with makeup, and even a rotating display case for bags! I was so jealous!"

Zhang Linlin also started imagining the scene; it was practically every girl's castle.

The more Jiang Chuan listened, the more familiar it sounded. Wasn't that his house? Did Little Green Tea go to his house for a tour?

"Is this wealthy girl you're talking about also in our community? Which unit?"

Feng Qiqi turned her head and said, "Yeah, Unit 5. Her name is Tan Jing! She's a very pretty older sister. Do you know her?"

Jiang Chuan's expression became increasingly strange. Did he know her? You could ask that damp yoga mat; it might give you an answer.

Zhang Linlin found the name familiar. After thinking for a long time, she remembered and said, "Isn't she from our school? I think she's the Department Beauty of the Computer Science Department, but I heard her family's financial situation wasn't very good."

"Seeing is deceiving, but hearing is believing... wait, I mean, seeing is believing. Anyway, she really is gorgeous. With looks like that, she can only be a Department Beauty?"

Jiang Chuan also recalled a bit and explained with a smile, "Our school is huge, and the colleges are far apart, so no one ranks a School Beauty, only Department Beauties. Here, the one in front of you is the Department Beauty of the Finance Department."

Zhang Linlin was a bit shy and said bashfully, "That's just nonsense people say. I'm not qualified to be a Department Beauty."

"Sister, with your looks, you could definitely be a Department Beauty. No wonder President Jiang got together with you back then!"

As Feng Qiqi spoke, she suddenly froze. Wait, the two of them were in the same year, and Linlin was her sister, so... Her eyes turned toward President Jiang on the sofa. With a mischievous grin, she walked over, tilted his chin up, and said, "So you're actually a younger brother. Let big sister give you a kiss!"

Zhang Linlin didn't mind at all. They had already agreed to hold onto him tightly and split him half-and-half. She watched the two of them with a smile on her face.

Jiang Chuan stood up, pinned the approaching Little Green Tea down, and gave her a hard smack on her safety pants to punish her for being so arrogant lately!

"Mmm-hmm~"

Feng Qiqi's beautiful peach-blossom eyes grew even more enchanting. Using her already sweet and cloying voice, she let out an ambiguous sound.

Zhang Linlin blushed as she watched. Her teeth lightly bit her lip, and she reached out to cover her eyes, but she still peeked through the gaps, watching without blinking...
