10: Chapter 10 False Information? I'll Deliver It to You Personally
Early the next morning, the interior of the Fortress continued to operate at its inherent rhythm. The footsteps of the patrolling Yin soldiers were like a precise pendulum, and the survivors began heading to their respective workstations to exchange for the nether talismans they relied on for survival. Everything seemed as calm as usual.
Qin Weiwei woke up early, continuing to play her role as the diligent and well-behaved "younger sister," helping to distribute the simple breakfast in the kitchen. Her eyes, however, would occasionally drift toward the heavily guarded corridor leading to the core area of the Fortress, calculating how to take the next step.
An opportunity came very soon.
Su Qingyu walked out of the core area in a hurry, clutching a stack of documents, with a hint of undetectable "fatigue" and "negligence" on her face. As she passed near the kitchen, she seemed to be bumped by a child running past, and several documents in her hand drifted to the ground.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Sister Su!" the child apologized in a panic.
"It's fine, be careful next time." Su Qingyu rubbed her bumped arm and bent down to pick up the documents, her brow slightly furrowed as if she were dealing with something troublesome, her attention somewhat unfocused.
Qin Weiwei's eyes lit up. She immediately put down her work and trotted over to help.
"Sister Su, let me help you." Her voice was sweet, and she nimbly picked up the scattered papers.
"Thank you." Su Qingyu glanced at her, her tone gentle enough but clearly businesslike, "Just leave them here. Go back to your work."
Qin Weiwei complied verbally, but her gaze was like the sharpest scanner, quickly sweeping over the title and some of the contents of the top document. When she saw the bolded characters, her heart almost jumped out of her chest!
[Underworld Fortress - Energy Core and Ultimate Defense Deployment Map (Top Secret)]
Although she only caught a glimpse of the title and a part of what seemed to be a diagram of energy pipes, along with several "weak points" and "emergency lockdown valve locations" marked in striking red, it was enough! This was definitely a core secret!
She suppressed her inner ecstasy and calmly stacked the documents, returning them to Su Qingyu with that same harmless smile on her face: "Sister Su, are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Su Qingyu took the documents, seemingly unaware of her prying eyes, and just complained casually, "There have been some strange energy fluctuations outside the Fortress lately. Lin Chen asked me to re-verify the defense parameters, and I'm busy to the point of having a headache." She rubbed her temples and walked away quickly with the documents.
These words were like a final hammer blow, completely shattering the last trace of doubt in Qin Weiwei's heart!
Energy fluctuations? It must be the cult members conducting reconnaissance or preparing outside! Lin Chen was nervous and re-deploying defenses! And this map was the key!
Looking at Su Qingyu's departing back, a flash of cold triumph appeared deep in her eyes. Truly, heaven is helping me! This Su Qingyu didn't seem as shrewd as imagined; she made a mistake as soon as work got busy.
Throughout the entire morning, Qin Weiwei was in a state of excitement. She tried her best to maintain a calm exterior, but her mind was already frantically memorizing and sketching the contents of the map she had glimpsed earlier. She had to send this intelligence out as soon as possible!
After lunch, there was a brief break. Qin Weiwei used the excuse of needing to get something from her room to slip back to her cramped quarters.
She locked the door from the inside, leaned against it, and panted for a few moments. Then, she rushed to the bedside and pulled out a few hidden blank scraps of paper and a short piece of charcoal from under the mattress.
Relying on her photographic memory and professionally trained drawing skills, she began to quickly recreate the "top-secret map" she had caught a glimpse of that morning.
The location of the Energy Core was marked in a specific area on the third basement level of the Fortress, surrounded by complex energy circuits and several prominent "defense gaps." The map also indicated the so-called "Ultimate Defense" activation sequence with red arrows, as well as several "key nodes" that could cause widespread defense paralysis if destroyed.
She drew with extreme focus, the corners of her mouth curling up uncontrollably. This intelligence was too important! It was enough for the Thousand Faces Cult to strike straight at the heart with minimal cost in the upcoming attack!
She could almost see the cult's army easily tearing through the Fortress's defenses according to the intelligence she provided, and Lin Chen's cold face showing an expression of shock and despair...
"Brother... Lin Chen?" she sneered quietly. "Let's see how arrogant you can be once you're a corpse!"
...
Meanwhile, inside the core control room.
On the massive nether light screen, two scenes were clearly displayed in split-screen.
One was a real-time view of Qin Weiwei's room: she was hunched over the bedside, fully concentrated on drawing that lethal "fake intelligence," the expression of excitement mixed with malice on her face visible down to the finest detail.
The other scene, captured from a distance via a "tracking ghost," showed a cultist responsible for receiving information outside a hidden stronghold of the Thousand Faces Cult. He was cautiously bringing the shadow recording worm that Qin Weiwei had sent out last night—containing the Fortress's preliminary layout and patrol routes—into the stronghold.
Lin Chen sat with his legs crossed, playing with a nether talisman that emitted a bone-chilling white frost, as if enjoying a brilliant play directed by himself.
"She's drawing quite seriously," he commented, his tone carrying a hint of mockery.
Su Qingyu stood aside, looking at Qin Weiwei's self-satisfied face on the light screen, and couldn't help but ask, "Will she fall for it? Is this fake map perhaps made too 'perfect'?"
"Perfect?" Lin Chen sneered. "For fools, why would they doubt if the meat delivered to their mouths is poisoned? They'll only complain that the meat isn't fatty enough."
He paused, a cold calculation flashing in his eyes: "I'm not just going to tell them the defense 'weak points'; I'm also going to plan out the 'best attack route' and 'timing' for them. Let them walk comfortably... into their graves."
Just then, a new movement appeared in the scene belonging to Qin Weiwei on the light screen.
She had finished drawing the map and took out that wafer-thin shadow recording worm again. This time, she was clearly more cautious, first listening carefully to the sounds outside. After confirming it was safe, she bit her fingertip and dripped blood onto the worm's body, preparing for the second intelligence transfer.
The recently completed fake map, detailed with the "Energy Core" and "defense vulnerabilities," was carefully placed in front of the shadow recording worm.
The eerie red light lit up again, beginning to record every detail on the map.
In the control room, Zhang Hao watched with gritted teeth: "Master, this woman is at it again! When are we going to kill her?"
"No rush." Lin Chen waved his hand, his tone flat but carrying an unquestionable authority. "Let her send it. The bigger the 'surprise' she sends out, the richer the 'reward' we'll receive when the time comes."
He cast his gaze toward the main light screen, at the scene representing the Thousand Faces Cult's stronghold, his eyes like those of someone looking at a flock of lambs waiting to be slaughtered.
"The Yin soldiers report," Lin Chen added as if remembering something, a cruel arc curling at the corner of his mouth, "they've discovered the enemy forces are gathering on a large scale. It seems they're preparing for something big."
Su Qingyu and Zhang Hao's hearts tightened.
Lin Chen, however, began to laugh—a smile of someone who had everything under control, even carrying a bit of anticipation.
"Tell them," he said to the empty control room, as if giving orders to invisible Yin soldiers, "prepare the 'stage' for me. The guests are almost at the door; as the hosts, we can't be lacking in etiquette."
"Yes!" A low, ethereal response came from the air.
Inside Qin Weiwei's room, the faint light transformed from the shadow recording worm once again slipped silently out of the window, flying toward the distant gathering enemies with the "top-secret intelligence" she believed could overturn everything.
She didn't know that what she had personally delivered was not the key to victory, but one-way tickets... to hell.
