25: Chapter 25 The play is over.
Qin Weiwei's struggles were pale and weak under Lin Chen's iron-grip arms. She was like a butterfly pinned to a specimen board, only able to flutter her wings in vain, watching helplessly as the disguise and schemes she took pride in were torn to shreds in the hellish "fireworks" before her eyes.
Below the city walls, ten thousand ghosts wailed. Her former "allies" fell in waves under the mutual slaughter and the massacre of the Netherworld Ghosts, blood and broken limbs staining the earth black and red. Above the walls, she was held in the arms of the true director of this conspiracy, as if he were admiring a masterpiece.
This ultimate irony and humiliation almost drove her insane!
"Let me go! You demon! You liar!" she shrieked, no longer able to maintain her mask of a weak little sister. Her features were contorted by extreme anger and fear, and her gaze was as venomous as a poisoned dagger, stabbing fiercely at Lin Chen.
The playful smile on Lin Chen's face finally vanished, replaced by an absolute coldness and indifference. He let go of the hand holding Qin Weiwei's shoulder, but before she could retreat, his other hand shot out like lightning, accurately seizing her slender neck and lifting her off the ground until her toes barely touched!
"Urgh..." Qin Weiwei's curses came to an abrupt halt. The intense sensation of suffocation made her hands desperately claw at Lin Chen's fingers, while her legs kicked helplessly.
On the wall, Zhang Hao, Su Qingyu, and the others were stunned by this sudden turn of events. Zhang Hao instinctively wanted to step forward but was stopped by a single glance from Lin Chen.
Gripping Qin Weiwei's neck, Lin Chen turned her toward the battlefield outside the city where a symphony of death was playing. His voice wasn't loud, but it was like a cold blade, clearly scraping against everyone's eardrums:
"The play is over."
"Qin Weiwei? Or should I call you... the Thousand Faces Cult's 'Phantom'?"
Qin Weiwei's body suddenly stiffened, her struggling movements freezing for a moment. Her eyes were filled with unbelievable horror! How did he know?! How could he possibly know her code name?!
"No... you're lying... Brother... I..." She still tried to make a final excuse. Tears welled up instantly, mixing with her face, which was flushed from suffocation, making her look pitiable in the extreme.
"Still acting?" Lin Chen sneered, his laughter filled with undisguised contempt. "From the moment you 'accidentally' fell into my arms? From the moment you 'unintentionally' inquired about the location of the Energy Core? Or from the first, second, third time... you used that shadow recording worm to send out intelligence?"
With every word he spoke, Qin Weiwei's face grew paler, and the terror in her eyes deepened! He knew everything! He actually knew everything! All her performances, all her little tricks, were probably like a clown's antics in his eyes!
"No... that's not it... that was..." Qin Weiwei still wanted to struggle.
Lin Chen was too lazy to listen to any more of her nonsense.
He casually swept his empty left hand through the air, and a simple light screen composed of Nether Energy instantly unfolded, hovering in mid-air. On the screen, scenes and audio clips began to flash back rapidly!
—It was Qin Weiwei in her room, whispering reports about the Fortress's "defense loopholes" and the location of the "Energy Core" to a shadow recording worm!
—It was a close-up of her cold, triumphant face as she formed hand seals by the window late at night to send away the shadow recording worm!
—It was the flash of shrewdness and calculation in her eyes when she tried to coax information out of Su Qingyu and Zhang Hao!
—There was even a small, blurry memory fragment purchased from the Greedy Ghost, showing another "Qin Weiwei" looking on coldly as survivors were slaughtered at the ruins of a breached base!
The evidence was as solid as a mountain! Piece by piece, her identity as the Thousand Faces Cult's Phantom and all her undercover activities were fully exposed!
"No!!! This isn't true! You forged it!!" Qin Weiwei completely broke down, letting out a hysterical scream like a cornered beast. All her disguises were completely torn away, leaving only naked despair and madness.
Su Qingyu looked at the images on the light screen, especially Qin Weiwei's cold eyes, which were completely different from her usual self. She felt a chill rise from the bottom of her heart. Although she had long suspected something, seeing the evidence with her own eyes still left her with a sense of lingering fear. This woman's acting skills were truly terrifying!
Zhang Hao was even more furious, shouting, "Holy shit! She really is a stinking bitch! Master! Let me hack her to pieces!"
Lin Chen ignored Zhang Hao's roaring. The hand gripping Qin Weiwei's neck loosened slightly, allowing her to catch her breath, but his cold gaze remained locked on her.
"Forged?" Lin Chen's tone was flat. "Do you think I need to forge anything?"
He leaned close to Qin Weiwei's face, which was contorted with fear and anger, and said word by word:
"From the moment you stepped into the Fortress, all your performances have been nothing more than a monkey show in my eyes."
"You thought you fooled everyone? No, you were just the bait on my hook, performing with all your might."
"Now," Lin Chen's gaze swept over the enemy troops outside the city—who were beginning to collapse completely because their core strength had crumbled, being hunted and slaughtered by the Yin Soldiers and remaining ghosts—before finally falling back onto Qin Weiwei's despairing eyes, "your usefulness is almost at an end."
He casually tossed the limp, mud-like Qin Weiwei to a nearby Yin Soldier Centurion.
"Take her down and keep a close eye on her."
"Watch closely," Lin Chen turned, his gaze fixed on the restless core area of the enemy's rear formation in the distance, his tone carrying a hint of anticipation. "Next, it will be your master's turn."
The Yin Soldier Centurion silently took the order, dragging away the completely lifeless and hollow-eyed Qin Weiwei like he was carrying a piece of trash.
The commotion on the city wall temporarily subsided.
But everyone knew that this war was far from over.
The real big shot hadn't appeared yet.
