29: Chapter 29 A Promise Is Made

At two o'clock in the afternoon, the tiered classroom for the finance major was already packed with people.

Today was a four-period block of finance major courses. The professor taught quickly and covered deep topics, leaving only the rustling sound of pen nibs gliding across paper in the classroom.

As soon as Jiang Chen walked into the classroom, Wang Hao, who was by the window, immediately scooted over to make room for him in the seat he had saved.

"Chenzi, over here! I saved a spot for you."

"Thanks."

Jiang Chen sat down and replied with a smile.

To him, having just purchased a river-view luxury flat, the knowledge in these textbooks was no longer a source of pressure; he listened more for reference than anything else.

After four periods of classes that left everyone feeling groggy, Wang Hao casually tapped on his old laptop that he had been using for several years during the break.

The computer fan buzzed loudly, and the screen was lagging a bit.

"Sigh, this piece of junk is really getting old. It lags like crazy just opening a few documents."

He complained offhandedly, his tone as casual as if he were saying the weather was bad today.

Pausing for a moment, he seemed to remember something and added nonchalantly.

"I saw a Legion flagship laptop online a couple of days ago. It looked pretty sweet, but it costs over twenty thousand. Too expensive. I'm just looking; I'll consider it when I have money."

After saying that, he laughed to himself and waved his hand, not taking it seriously at all.

"Forget it, forget it. As long as it works, it's fine. I won't bother with it."

The whole thing was just a casual mention, but it was clear he really wanted that model.

Jiang Chen remained silent beside him, but he silently took note of it in his heart.

Wang Hao was his most sincere brother. He usually helped him save seats, brought him food, and covered for him without ever being calculating.

He never hesitated when things got tough and had reached out to help him without a second thought during his most difficult times.

Before, Jiang Chen had no money and was powerless to help even if he wanted to. Now that he had financial backing, it was just a matter of conveniently fulfilling a small wish his brother had mentioned.

For no other reason than to make his brother happy!

Jiang Chen didn't follow up on the conversation. Instead, he quietly took out his phone and, during the break, secretly placed an order for that Lenovo Legion Pro Max flagship gaming laptop, which cost just over twenty thousand.

Payment made, same-day delivery selected—it was all done in one smooth motion.

He couldn't wait to see the look of surprise on Wang Hao's face when he got the computer.

The four periods finally ended, and the setting sun dyed the classroom a warm red.

Wang Hao packed his backpack and hooked his arm around Jiang Chen's shoulder. "I'm exhausted. Where should we go for a stroll tonight?"

Jiang Chen slung his bag over his shoulder and spoke casually.

"I'm moving to a new home today. I don't have much stuff. Come with me and give me a hand."

"Moving? Sure, no problem! I'm telling you, Chenzi, it's about time you moved. That seventh floor of yours has no elevator; every time I go to find you, I'm half-dead from the climb."

Wang Hao agreed immediately, not thinking much of it.

The two of them walked to the delivery point at the school gate together, and Jiang Chen gave the pickup code.

The staff member soon brought out a huge original manufacturer's computer packaging box.

Wang Hao froze for a moment, recognizing the model, and said subconsciously.

"Eh? Isn't this the model I was talking about today... Why did you buy this?"

Jiang Chen gently placed the box into his arms, his tone as natural as if he were handing over a bottle of water.

"It's for you. Consider it a labor fee for helping me move."

Wang Hao was completely stunned, holding the box with a look of helplessness.

"Wait... I just mentioned it offhandedly. You actually bought it? No, this is too expensive; I can't take it."

"Even if mentioned offhandedly, it's still a wish."

Jiang Chen patted his shoulder and gave a faint smile.

"You've helped me so many times, and I haven't properly thanked you yet. It's just a computer, a small token of a brother's appreciation. Keep it. There will be even more waiting for you in the future."

Wang Hao opened his mouth, his heart feeling both warm and flustered. In the end, he just nodded vigorously.

"Alright... I'll take it! Chenzi, from now on, just say the word and I'll be there! I'll handle the whole move myself; I'll even clean the place spotless for you!"

Jiang Chen laughed. "No need to be so dramatic. By the way, before we go upstairs, come with me to the landlord's place. I've prepared some things for the elderly lady."

Carrying the milk, oatmeal, health supplements, and fruit they had bought in advance, the two of them climbed up to the seventh floor together.

When they knocked on the door opposite, the white-haired Granny Zhang immediately came out to greet them with a smile.

"Little Chen! Are you moving?"

"Yes, Grandma, I'm moving today."

Jiang Chen handed the items over, his tone sincere.

"Thank you for taking care of me all this time. You charged me so little for rent and were always giving me eggs and vegetables. I've kept it all in my heart."

The old lady hurriedly waved her hands, her eyes turning a bit watery. "You child, why did you buy things! Grandma saw that it wasn't easy for you to be out here at school alone and working a part-time job, so I helped where I could. Child, you are very thoughtful."

"Come visit often in the future. Come back and see Grandma when you have time!"

"I definitely will, Grandma."

After saying goodbye to the landlady, the two of them began moving the belongings.

The seventh floor wasn't exactly low, but Wang Hao was full of energy. He packed, carried boxes, and jogged downstairs without a single complaint.

The car drove all the way toward the Binjiang District. The further they drove, the wider the roads became and the more high-end the surrounding residential developments appeared.

Wang Hao didn't pay much attention at first, but when the car drove into the gates of Yujiangwan Garden and he saw the strict security, the exquisite landscaping, and the high-rise river-view apartments, his whole body suddenly stiffened, and he snapped his gaze toward Jiang Chen.

"Chenzi... Isn't this... Jiang City's top-tier Yujiang Bay? You—you moved here?"

Jiang Chen nodded faintly. "Yeah, just got it sorted."

Wang Hao instantly sucked in a breath of cold air, his eyes bulging as he began to stutter.

"No way? This is Yujiang Bay! Any random unit here costs several million. The rent must be incredibly expensive, right?"

Jiang Chen didn't explain much, just smiled. "You'll know once we go up."

The elevator went straight to the 21st floor.

Jiang Chen took out the key and gave it a gentle turn.

*Click.*

The door opened.

An oversized cross-hall, panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, an unbeatable river view, modern luxury decoration, brand-name appliances...

The instantaneous visual impact left Wang Hao stunned in place.

Holding the computer box, he stood blankly at the doorway, unable to say a word for a long time, his face filled with disbelief.

"This... this is way too big."

Jiang Chen walked into the living room and looked out at the rushing river water, his tone calm.

"I bought it today. Paid in full."

"Holy crap! Paid in full? Awesome!!! Chenzi, you're freaking awesome!!!"

Wang Hao was silent for several seconds before suddenly snapping back to his senses. He looked at Jiang Chen with a face full of shock, his voice trembling with excitement.

"Chenzi... this isn't just moving; you've basically ascended to heaven in one step! When I tell people in the future that my best brother lives in Yujiang Bay, I'll have so much prestige!"

The two of them were busy until after nine o'clock in the evening before they finally had things simply tidied up.

Wang Hao sat on the soft leather sofa, looking around at this dream-like apartment. The look in his eyes as he watched Jiang Chen was full of sincere admiration.

Seeing his brother becoming more and more impressive, he was happy for him from the bottom of his heart, but the ensuing sense of crisis made him nervous.

"Chenzi, to be honest, I'm a bit flustered. Before, we were in the same trench. Although we were poor, we were happy. Now that you've made it big, I'm afraid I'll only be able to follow behind you as a lackey or an errand boy."

"I'm not afraid of hard work. I'm afraid... that I won't be able to help you in the future and will instead hold you back."

By the end, Wang Hao's voice dropped, his eyes filled with sincere worry.

In his heart, Jiang Chen was his best brother, someone he could trust with his life.

He didn't want the gap in status and wealth to create a rift between them.

After hearing this, Jiang Chen was first taken aback, then he laughed.

He stepped forward, patted Wang Hao on the chest, and spoke with a firm and warm tone.

"You silly kid, what are you thinking?"

He turned and walked to the center of the living room, spreading his arms to gesture toward the massive cross-hall.

"Wang Hao, remember this: Yujiang Bay is Jiang Chen's home, but it's also your home."

Jiang Chen paused, his eyes sharp as an eagle's as he looked directly at Wang Hao.

"I won't let you be a lackey, and I don't need a lackey. What I need is a brother who stands by my side, capable of fighting alongside me."

"When we truly establish a firm foothold in the future, never mind one Yujiang Bay—we'll be able to take down all of Jiang City, or even places further away!"

Looking at Jiang Chen's determined gaze, the sense of crisis in the depths of Wang Hao's heart was instantly replaced by ignited passion.

"Good! Chenzi! From now on, whether it's climbing a mountain of blades or plunging into a sea of fire, or going out to conquer a bigger world, just say the word and I, Wang Hao, will never hesitate!"

Jiang Chen smiled with satisfaction, raised his hand, and gave Wang Hao a heavy high-five.

"It's a deal!"

"It's a deal!"
