35: Chapter 35 You're Not Good Enough

It was her.

The two had met once before. A week ago in the school cafeteria, he had accidentally spilled soup on her bag. She remained very calm, even comforting others despite being the one who had been spilled on.

He remembered she was a top student in the law school, but he never expected that the lawyer assigned by the firm would be her.

Jiang Chen simply replied 'Received' and then pulled the car over at the agreed-upon intersection.

Ten minutes later, a figure in a simple light grey suit, carrying a professional briefcase, walked over quickly. Her long hair was neatly tied up, and her demeanor was calm and capable.

Lin Wan.

It was indeed Lin Wan.

When she opened the car door and saw Jiang Chen in the driver's seat, a trace of faint surprise flashed across Lin Wan's cool eyes; she had clearly recognized him.

She immediately reined in her emotions, returned to a professional and rigorous demeanor, and gave a slight nod.

"Student Jiang Chen, I didn't expect the client to be you. I am the lead lawyer assigned to your case by the firm, Lin Wan. We are heading directly to your hometown county to handle the matter now."

Jiang Chen nodded slightly in acknowledgment, his tone cold and firm, devoid of any unnecessary emotion.

"Lawyer Lin, you already understand the situation. My stance is very clear: no settlement, no private resolution, no acceptance of any private compensation. What I want is the maximum legal penalty."

"He hit someone and fled, caused serious injury, and threatened my family. He must bear full criminal responsibility and must go to jail. I cannot let such a person remain in society to harm others."

Lin Wan nodded gently, her gaze resolute and professional. She took out the pre-organized case points and legal clauses from her briefcase and spoke clearly and logically.

"I fully understand your demands and bottom line. According to our country's Criminal Law, causing serious injury to a person in a traffic accident while bearing full or primary responsibility, accompanied by fleeing the scene, constitutes the crime of causing a traffic accident."

"The statutory sentence is fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years or criminal detention. Furthermore, the other party's refusal to plead guilty and their threats against the victim's family are aggravating circumstances."

"As long as the chain of evidence is complete, the processes of criminal filing, arrest approval, and public prosecution can be pushed forward quickly. I will oversee the entire process to ensure fairness and justice, and I will not let a single detail slip by."

Jiang Chen stepped on the accelerator. The V8 engine of the panamera Turbo S emitted a low, powerful roar as it sped steadily and swiftly toward his hometown county.

The city buildings outside the car window receded rapidly, gradually turning into suburban roads and trees.

Jiang Chen stared at the road stretching out before him, his eyes devoid of any ripples, filled only with an indisputable coldness.

After speeding along the highway for two and a half hours, they drove into the urban streets of Jiang Chen's hometown, Qingxi County.

The small county roads were narrow and crowded. As soon as this fully-equipped volcanic grey panamera drove into the open space in front of the traffic police station, it instantly attracted the gaze of the entire street. Passersby stopped to look, with exclamations rising one after another.

In a small place like Qingxi, let alone a Turbo S, even a regular panamera was a rare sight.

Jiang Chen pushed open the car door, his aura cold and intimidating. He had shed the laziness and casualness he showed at school; every step he took was steady and powerful, carrying an inviolable sense of oppression.

Wang Hao followed closely by his side, while Lin Wan, holding her black briefcase with a calm and professional expression, walked straight into the traffic police station's service hall with the other two.

Just as they approached the accident handling room, a vulgar and arrogant male voice burst out from the door, harsh and overbearing.

"You old thing, don't be ungrateful! Settling with a few thousand yuan is enough; do you really think I'm afraid of you? In Qingxi County, there is nothing that I, Zhang Biao, cannot handle! Keep making trouble, and I'll make sure your whole family can't stay here anymore!"

Jiang Chen's footsteps came to a sudden halt, the chill in his eyes instantly reaching its peak.

He slammed the door of the handling room open.

The room went silent instantly.

As soon as his mother, Liu Mei, saw Jiang Chen, her long-tensed shoulders suddenly relaxed. Her eyes instantly turned red, yet she still forced herself not to shed tears: "Xiao Chen, you've finally come."

His father, Jiang Jianjun, sat in a chair with a heavy plaster cast on his left leg. His face was pale and haggard, but the moment he saw his son, a bit of confidence finally ignited in his cloudy eyes.

Opposite them, a middle-aged man wearing a floral shirt, a thick gold chain, and a fleshy face was sitting with his legs crossed, looking at the three of them with disdain.

It was the hit-and-run perpetrator who had caused serious injury—Zhang Biao.

Zhang Biao glanced at Jiang Chen's simple casual attire, then looked at the excessively young Lin Wan. He didn't take the two of them seriously at all, sneering with a contemptuous tone.

"What? Calling two students to back you up? College students don't carry much weight in Qingxi."

Jiang Chen ignored his clamoring. He quickly walked to his parents' side, reached out to gently support his mother's arm, and looked down at his father's injured leg. His voice was extremely soft, yet it was as steadying as a reassurance.

"Dad, Mom, you have been wronged. Leave the rest to me."

This short sentence made Liu Mei's tight heart instantly settle.

Jiang Chen slowly turned around, his gaze landing directly on Zhang Biao. There was no emotion in those pitch-black eyes, yet they were so cold that Zhang Biao felt an inexplicable panic in his heart.

"It was you who hit my father at the old vegetable market intersection a month ago, fled the scene, and now that you've been found, you still dare to threaten and insult my parents?"

Zhang Biao pretended to be calm, slammed the table, and stood up abruptly, spittle flying.

"Kid, stop falsely accusing me! Even if I did hit him, the most I'll do is pay money! What, can you actually send me to jail?"

"Pay money?"

Jiang Chen let out a low laugh, the laughter cold and bone-chilling.

He took a step to the side, yielding his position, and nodded slightly to Lawyer Lin beside him: "Lawyer Lin, talk about the law."

Lin Wan stepped forward, her demeanor calm and sharp. She quickly pulled out the traffic police liability determination, the hospital's serious injury assessment report, witness statements, and the scene trace identification report from her briefcase. Every word she spoke was clear and powerful, with distinct legal logic.

"Zhang Biao, according to the accident liability determination issued by the Qingxi County Traffic Police Brigade, you bear full responsibility for the accident. By driving and causing serious injury to a person and then fleeing the scene, you have violated Article 133 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China, constituting the crime of causing a traffic accident."

"Afterward, you refused to cooperate with the handling of the case and publicly threatened and intimidated the victim's family. The circumstances are egregious, and you should be held criminally responsible with heavier punishment according to the law. You are facing fixed-term imprisonment; this is by no means something that can be resolved simply by paying money."

"In addition, we are formally filing for civil compensation, including medical expenses, nursing expenses, disability compensation, and compensation for mental distress, totaling 286,400 yuan. Not a single cent less; it must be paid."

Clear logic, ironclad evidence, and strict legal principles.

Zhang Biao's face turned pale on the spot. He was used to running wild in the county and had never seen such a professional setup. Upon hearing he might go to jail, he instantly broke down, yet he still roared with a fierce expression but a cowardly heart.

"You little girl, stop trying to scare me! I have connections in Qingxi! You want to file a case? Keep dreaming!"

He was furious from embarrassment and reached out to push Lin Wan.

Jiang Chen's eyes turned sharp suddenly. His figure flashed as he stepped forward, his large hand clamping onto Zhang Biao's wrist like an iron pincer, applying slight pressure.

With a soft "crack," intense pain instantly swept through Zhang Biao's entire body.

"Ah—!"

He screamed in pain, his entire body forced to bend over. His face turned beet red, and cold sweat instantly soaked his back.

"Touch my lawyer? Are you even worthy?"
