20: Chapter 20: A Shopping Frenzy, Giving the Local Warlords a Small Firepower Shock
"System, open the Weapon Exchange Mall!"
With a thought from Zhang Cheng, that familiar blue light screen unfolded once again. Only this time, he was no longer the pauper drooling over AK rifles; he was now a "tycoon" with a massive amount of cash in hand.
His gaze skipped over the basic firearms and locked directly onto the [Vehicles/Heavy Weapons] column.
"Want to play with artillery barrages? Want to play with machine gun suppression? Fine, I'll play with you, and I'll play more professionally and more ruthlessly than you!"
Zhang Cheng's fingers tapped rapidly in the air, the thrill of spending money like water sending his adrenaline soaring.
[Exchange: Armed Pickups (Toyota Hilux modified version, rear bed equipped with 12.7mm heavy machine gun and shield) x 10 units.] [Cost: 1,000 points.]
This was the "god-tier vehicle" of the Middle East battlefields—durable, easy to maintain, and highly mobile. Equipped with a heavy machine gun, it became a mobile fire point.
[Exchange: 82mm Mortars (includes simple fire control and sighting) x 10 units.] [Cost: 500 points.]
[Exchange: 82mm High-Explosive Fragmentation Rounds x 500 rounds.] [Cost: 250 points.]
A volley from ten mortars in these Northern Myanmar mountains, where heavy firepower was scarce, would be a devastating strike force!
[Exchange: RPG-7 Rocket Launchers x 50 units.] [Cost: 250 points.]
[Exchange: Matching Anti-Tank/High-Explosive Rounds x 500 rounds.] [Cost: 250 points.]
This thing was the infantry's handheld cannon, specifically used for cracking turtle shells and blowing up dense groups of infantry.
[Exchange: PKM General-Purpose Machine Guns x 20 units.] [Cost: 100 points.]
[Exchange: 7.62mm Machine Gun Belt Boxes x 100 boxes.] [Cost: 250 points.]
Combined with the AK rifles already in the hands of the Death Soldiers, this fire density would make even a regular army lose a layer of skin, let alone a regiment of bandits!
After a series of swift operations, 2,600 points vanished instantly, leaving a balance of 1,915 points.
Zhang Cheng didn't feel a hint of heartache. Money is just a means to an end; if you spend it, you can earn more. As long as he won this battle, the spoils of war alone would be enough to break even!
"Deployment location: Dense forest on the north side of Wild Wolf Valley, Old K's unit assembly point."
...
Wild Wolf Valley.
This was a long, narrow, and gloomy canyon. Both sides were steep slopes covered in thorns and rocks, and the dirt road in the middle was pitted and bumpy, barely wide enough for two vehicles to pass side-by-side.
Old K led three hundred and fifty Death Soldiers through the jungle like a group of silent ghosts, moving rapidly.
When they arrived at the designated position, the air in the clearing ahead suddenly distorted. Immediately after, ten brand-new armed pickups, smelling of metal and engine oil, along with mountains of weapon and ammunition crates, appeared out of thin air!
Even these emotionless Death Soldiers felt a flash of fanatical light in their eyes upon seeing this scene.
"The Sovereign's miracle..." Old K murmured softly, then quickly reverted to his cold commander state. "Everyone, listen to my orders! Re-equip immediately!"
"First Detachment, take over the armed pickups and hide in the woods on both sides of the road. Once the enemy enters the ambush circle, drive out and block the road with the heavy machine guns!"
"Second Detachment, mortar teams, set up positions on the reverse slope! Calculate the coordinates and cover the entire canyon!"
"Third Detachment, machine gun and rocket launcher teams, seize the high ground on both sides! Construct a crossfire network!"
"Move fast! Sweep away all traces! Don't let those idiots see any flaws!"
The execution of the Death Soldiers was terrifying. In less than twenty minutes, the entire Wild Wolf Valley had turned into a death trap with its bloody maw wide open. Every muzzle and artillery tube was hidden in the shadows of the grass and rocks, quietly waiting for the prey to arrive.
...
At this moment, on the dirt road five kilometers away from Wild Wolf Valley, a large and messy convoy was driving over arrogantly, kicking up clouds of dust.
Just as the intelligence had said, this group looked menacing. Leading the way were several open-top jeeps carrying officers in sunglasses. Following behind were all sorts of trucks, pickups, and even a few troop carriers modified from tractors. The truck beds were crowded with soldiers wearing various camouflage uniforms and holding a hodgepodge of weapons.
Some were smoking, some were playing cards, and others were firing randomly at the trees by the road, laughing and joking, completely lacking any sense of pre-battle tension.
This was the common ailment of Northern Myanmar warlord forces—lax discipline, bullying the weak while fearing the strong.
Sitting in a luxury pickup with an added air conditioner in the middle of the convoy was the commander of this operation, Brigadier General Yang's confidant and regimental commander, Yanken.
Yanken was a fat man with a face full of scars, a gold chain as thick as a finger hanging around his neck, and betel nut in his mouth. Blood-red juice trickled from the corner of his mouth, making him look exceptionally hideous.
"Commander, Wild Wolf Valley is just ahead." The adjutant glanced at the map and said with some concern, "The terrain there is dangerous. Should we send a few scouts ahead to check the road?"
"Check the road?" Yanken spat out a piece of betel nut residue contemptuously, as if he had heard a joke. "Check what road? Who is the opponent? Just a bunch of hicks who took over a park? At most, there's a hundred or two of them, and they're probably holding firesticks!"
He patted the pistol on his thigh with an arrogant expression. "How many men do we have? Over a thousand brothers! Plus cannons! And heavy machine guns! We could drown them with our spit! Why bother scouting? Just roll right over them!"
"Tell those in front to speed up! Full speed ahead! I want to reach the park before dinner and kick that 'Sovereign's' head around like a ball! I heard there are plenty of pretty Dragon Country women in the park; if we go late, they'll all be snatched up!"
"Yes, Commander!"
The order was passed down, and the entire convoy immediately grew excited. When those soldiers heard about women and money to be looted, they all howled and floored their accelerators.
The convoy, like a greedy long snake, plunged headlong into the gloomy and silent Wild Wolf Valley without any precautions.
Yanken looked at the steep mountain walls on both sides through the car window. Although a flash of instinctive unease crossed his mind, it was quickly dispelled by the desire for the wealth and women about to be his.
He had no idea that in the seemingly peaceful grass on both sides, hundreds of cold eyes were staring fixedly at them.
And on the reverse slope position a few hundred meters away, Old K was holding binoculars, watching the prey crawl into the cage like fools, and slowly raised his right hand.
"Since you're in such a hurry to be reincarnated, I'll grant your wish."
Old K's hand swung down violently.
"Fire!"
