21: Chapter 21 Death Valley, A Dimensional Reduction Strike from Modern Warfare
"Whiz—!"
A sharp, ear-piercing whistle, like the whistle of the Grim Reaper, instantly tore through the silence over Wild Wolf Valley.
That was the first spotting mortar shell!
The shell traced a perfect parabola in the air, slamming with unerring precision right next to the jeep at the very front of the convoy that was frantically honking its horn.
"Boom!!!"
A ball of orange-red fire soared into the sky. The violent blast wave flipped the jeep directly into the ditch by the roadside; the officers inside didn't even have time to scream before they were blown to pieces.
This explosion was like a starting pistol.
In the next second, the entire Wild Wolf Valley erupted!
"Thump! Thump! Thump! Thump!"
From the Reverse slope positions, ten 82mm mortars let out a dull roar. The loaders worked like machines, feeding shells into the tubes at a staggering rate of fifteen rounds per minute.
The shells rained down like dense hail onto the narrow road at the bottom of the valley.
"Boom, boom, boom, boom—!"
Continuous explosions echoed through the valley, deafening to the ears.
Yanken's convoy was hit with a devastating blow in an instant. Those trucks and pickups, devoid of any armor protection, were as fragile as paper toys before the 82mm high-explosive shells. With a single shell, an entire vehicle would be blown apart, and the soldiers packed inside were instantly turned into a mist of blood.
"Enemy attack! It's an ambush!!"
Yanken was thrown by the vibration of the explosion, his head slamming into the roof of the car. He rolled out with a face full of blood and hid behind a wheel, scared out of his wits. "Return fire! Quick, return fire! Where is the artillery?!"
His artillery was still at the very back of the convoy. Before they could even unload the guns from the trucks, they were blown sky-high, men and cannons alike, by several precision shells.
"Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat—!!!"
This was only the beginning.
From the high ground on both sides of the slopes, twenty PKM general-purpose machine guns opened fire simultaneously!
The Death Soldier machine gunners had established a perfect crossfire network. The long tongues of fire were like the scythe of the Grim Reaper, ruthlessly harvesting the soldiers who tried to jump from the vehicles to escape or lay on the ground seeking cover.
The 7.62mm machine gun rounds easily pierced through car doors and human bodies, turning the valley floor into a meat grinder.
"Ah! My leg!"
"Help! Mommy!"
Screams, cries, and explosions intertwined, resembling a living hell on earth.
Those warlord soldiers, who usually acted like tyrants, were now scurrying like headless flies. They couldn't even see where the enemy was before being riddled with bullets from unknown directions.
"Don't panic! Where is everyone? Hold the line! Rocket launchers! Blast them!" Yanken waved his pistol, trying to organize a counterattack.
A few lucky survivors shouldered their RPGs, intending to fire at the hilltop.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
The Death Soldier snipers hidden in the shadows had long since targeted them. With a few crisp gunshots, the heads of those RPG gunners blossomed; the rocket launchers fell to the ground, and one even accidentally pulled the trigger as he collapsed, blowing up a group of his own men.
Just then, an even more hopeless scene appeared.
"Vroom—vroom—!"
Accompanied by the roar of engines, ten monsters covered in camouflage netting suddenly burst out from the woods on both sides of the road—those were the Armed pickups Zhang Cheng had exchanged!
They didn't rush down the slope but instead utilized their high vantage point, the 12.7mm heavy machine guns in their beds letting out thunderous roars!
"Thud-thud-thud-thud-thud—!"
The power of large-caliber bullets was terrifying. They could easily snap large trees, pierce through engine blocks, and even tear a human body in half!
Under the strafing of these ten heavy machine guns, the remaining vehicles at the bottom of the valley were like tin cans smashed by a sledgehammer, sparks flying and scrap metal scattering everywhere.
This wasn't a battle; it was a massacre!
This was a dimensional strike from an organized, premeditated, and well-equipped special forces unit against a mere rabble!
Yanken was completely despairing. Looking at his men falling around him and the dirt road already dyed red with blood, he finally understood what kind of existence he had provoked.
How were these clodhoppers? These were clearly evil spirits crawled out from hell!
"Stop firing! Surrender! We surrender!!"
Yanken threw away his pistol, crawled out from behind the wheel, knelt on the ground, and tore off his white shirt, waving it frantically.
"We surrender! Don't kill me!"
With their commander on his knees, the remaining few hundred defeated soldiers completely collapsed. They threw away their weapons one after another, held their heads in their hands, and knelt in the pools of blood, trembling.
The sound of gunfire gradually ceased.
The entire Wild Wolf Valley was filled with the thick smell of gunpowder and a nauseating stench of blood.
Old K stood up, looking down coldly at the carnage below. He pressed his earpiece, his voice remaining calm:
"Sovereign, the battle is over."
"Battle report: Approximately 700 enemies eliminated, approximately 300 captured, including the enemy commander Yanken. Our side suffered 5 killed in action and 20 lightly wounded. Captured 28 vehicles; all others destroyed."
"Mission accomplished."
Far away at the base, Zhang Cheng listened to the report in his earpiece and let out a long breath of turbid air.
He knew that after this battle, the rules of this jungle would have to change.
Before, the warlords had the final say.
From today onward, he was the one who called the shots here.
