858: New information, nesting dolls?

"A physical examination? I was actually planning to go. I've been feeling a bit unwell lately, especially... down there." Bertha said this, feeling a little embarrassed as she placed her hand on her lower abdomen, her troubled expression not easing. She then asked in confusion, "But aren't you, Sheriff Mode, supposed to be looking for clues about the murderer in the house right now?"

"The clues are on you," Sheriff Mode said ambiguously, then asked, "Do you have any leftovers from the food you ate yesterday? I'll take a portion for examination."

"Yes."

Bertha took out a lunchbox from the kitchen and began collecting the leftovers from yesterday.

During this time, Sheriff Mode continued to observe the house for any potential clues.

In a short while, he really did discover an important clue!

On the ground before him, there was a string of red mud footprints!

The position of these footprints was in the shadows, and their color was relatively light, making them difficult to notice under normal circumstances.

The size, shape, and style of the footprints made it impossible for them to belong to a woman; these were A Man's shoes.

Furthermore, footprints of this color would only be left after stepping in red mud, and in the Town, red mud is only found in the Redwood Forest, which is where the lower half of the body was found!

"Sheriff Mode, the food has been collected."

Bertha handed over the lunchbox.

After she said this, the woman's gaze followed Sheriff Mode and also noticed the footprints on the ground: "Huh? How are there such footprints here? And mud."

"I always change my shoes when I enter the house."

The woman still had a trace of innocent confusion.

Sheriff Mode looked at the bewildered Bertha, sighed, and shook his head: "Someone entered your house without your knowledge."

"What?! Sheriff Mode, don't scare me!" Bertha exclaimed, covering her mouth.

"Let's go, we'll talk more at the Hospital."

Sheriff Mode took the lunchbox from Bertha's hand.

Not long after.

Bertha got into the passenger seat of the Police car.

The vehicle started, heading towards the Town's Hospital this time.

It was quite strange.

For a Town this small, it actually had a small Hospital.

Their Town was only slightly larger than a village; usually, one or two clinics would be considered good.

This thought didn't last long.

When Sheriff Mode brought Bertha to the entrance of the Hospital, he finally understood why the Town had such a Hospital.

[Leon Hospital. Branch]

[This Hospital contains Weird Tales rules, please abide by them]

[1. The Hospital waiting room has signs, please go to the appropriate consultation area for you. If you go to the wrong one, it's fine, the Doctor will diagnose you with a non-existent illness and prescribe medication or surgery for you.]

[2. The psychiatric ward is in the back building. The Doctors and Nurses there are very kind. Patients with mental illness, please move there.]

[3. If medical fees are insufficient, other items can be used for settlement. Prices are fair. Please do not cause trouble.]

[4. Nurses are not service staff, please treat them politely.]

This was another facility that had settled in the Town.

Just like the tavern he entered yesterday.

And because of this, he couldn't look at its existence from the perspective of a small Town.

He didn't know what kind of existences these guys who could settle in their instance dungeons truly were.

This thought flashed through his mind, and Sheriff Mode led Bertha towards the Hospital.

The physical examination department had a dedicated section.

Sheriff Mode was not one of the chosen people in this Hospital instance dungeon. Following the rules, he didn't encounter any problems along the way.

"I'm not sick, I'm not sick!"

While walking, Sheriff Mode heard a cry as he passed a room.

He turned his head to look.

Through the window of the Hospital room door, he could see A Man tied tightly to the bed, howling in fear.

And in front of this howling Man was a Nurse flicking a syringe: "You have a mental problem, how can you not be sick?"

"The louder you scream, the bigger the problem. Be good, wait for me to increase your dosage, and then go to the psychiatric ward for treatment."

The Nurse, wearing a mask, said this and injected the syringe into A Man's arm.

After one injection was given, the Nurse turned and picked up another bottle of medicine nearby.

She put on another syringe and continued to draw the liquid, clearly intending to inject another dose into the Man on the bed!

Sheriff Mode also noticed that the trash can next to A Man's bed was already filled with at least twenty to thirty used syringes!

Regular Hospitals clean their trash cans daily. So many syringes appearing in the trash can must have been generated today!

It was only around seven o'clock at the moment. To be precise, those consumed syringes were generated within an hour!

As the medicine was injected, the Man on the bed twitched all over, rolling his White Eyes. Afterwards, he kicked his legs, seemingly taking in more air than he was letting out...

Sheriff Mode was silent.

That guy on the bed should be like him, someone chosen to come to this World.

However, the other party's instance dungeon was in this Hospital and had no connection to him.

He might have just died because he violated the instance dungeon's rules.

It was probably something like needing to cooperate with the Hospital's treatment and not resisting.

He didn't know how many people like him had experienced various instance dungeons in the Tales of the Weird world.

...

After sending Bertha for examination, Sheriff Mode waited in the physical examination area for a while.

A report about Bertha appeared in his hand.

All her organs were in good condition.

However, her mental state was not good, there were traces of drug use, and she had injuries on her lower body.

"No, how could this be? I clearly haven't had any contact with any Man, this is impossible! Impossible!"

Bertha also saw her physical examination report and showed an expression of disbelief.

She even grabbed the Doctor's arm under Sheriff Mode's slightly jumping heart: "Doctor, was the examination wrong? I've never had contact with A Man, how could this be the result?!"

"Madam, if you are not satisfied with the examination results, you can have another examination."

"However, the situation is unlikely to change significantly, as my Hospital's medical equipment has never had a problem."

The Doctor remained surprisingly normal in the face of Bertha's words and emotions.

Sheriff Mode thought that perhaps because Bertha herself was a native resident of this World, the other party's tolerance level was much higher when dealing with other existences within the Weird Tales rules.

"No, this isn't true, how can this be the result!" Bertha held the test report in her hand, trembling and crying bitterly.

"Sheriff Mode, do you know who did this? Please, you must help me find the murderer!"

With the woman's unstable emotions, the look in her eyes, filled with hope and endless hatred for the murderer, made Sheriff Mode sigh: "I probably know."

As he replied, he held another report in his hand.

This was the test result of the food Bertha had brought.

According to the examination, it contained a large amount of knockout drug ingredients!

...

Police station.

Corey opened the Police station door with a worried look on his face.

Compared to usual, he had dawdled for more than ten minutes before opening the door today.

He didn't know where Mo De had gone, as he hadn't come to work so late.

While thinking this, Corey finally saw a Police car speeding towards him in the distance.

"Screech!"

The vehicle stopped in front of him.

Before Corey could step aside, the door of the stopped car opened directly.

Mo De got out of the car.

At the same time.

On the other side, a woman also got out of the passenger seat.

Originally, when Corey saw Mo De, his expression was flat with some distance, but when he saw the woman, when he saw Bertha, his gaze immediately darted away, and his expression was somewhat unnatural.

"Slap!"

Bertha walked up and directly slapped Corey across the face.

"You garbage! You actually drugged and raped me!"

"I'm going to kill you, kill you!"

Bertha's face, which had been calm and warm when they first met this morning, was now distorted with rage!

While screaming, she continuously pounded Corey with both hands.

In response.

Corey did not show any resistance. All he had was the cowardice and stuttering of someone caught doing something wrong: "I... I didn't! What nonsense are you talking about?! I am the Police of the Town, how could I do such a thing?!"

"Click~" Mo De had already put the silver handcuffs on Corey's hands during his sophistry: "Mr. Corey, you are a major suspect in the matter of Ms. Bertha being drugged and raped. Please cooperate with the investigation."

While announcing this, Mo De also removed the other party's Police badge.

While he said 'major suspect', it could actually be confirmed.

Mo De had seen Corey's expression management just now.

If this guy really hadn't done anything, facing Bertha's outburst, he would never have shown that kind of evasive emotion.

Even if he had shown that disgusting behavior when he confessed to Bertha before, he couldn't possibly show evasion when she accused him of drugging and raping her.

It's like saying I stole fifty thousand yuan when I only stole five yuan.

In such a situation, the refutation would only be righteous.

"Sheriff, why don't you kill him? Just shoot him dead!" Bertha's eyes were red, her emotions unable to calm down.

"Bertha, I will definitely give you a satisfactory outcome in this matter. Please remain calm," Mo De comforted her.

He hadn't expected this.

Originally, he wanted to understand the dismemberment case through Bertha to advance the progress of the dismemberment case.

But something like this happened halfway through.

A rape case.

This kind of case, even with the dismemberment case still ongoing, was a major case!

Unfortunately, although he had now caught the culprit, he himself had no chance of getting a promotion, a raise, or a commendation.

"Let's go."

Mo De led Corey into the Police station.

Bertha sobbed and cried behind him.

Presumably, this incident had a huge impact on her.

Sheriff Mode was even a little worried that she might do something drastic because of it.

Unfortunately, he didn't have any Police force to spare to comfort Bertha's emotions; he could only hope she would try to think positively.

Police station.

Interrogation room.

Corey used to sit in the position for interrogating criminals, but now he was sitting in the criminal's position.

And the person interrogating the criminal was Sheriff Mode.

"Originally, I thought that you remained silent to my questions yesterday because you had some unspeakable difficulty, to protect Bertha. Now that I think about it, I misjudged you."

Mo De shook his head in disappointment.

"Captain, I didn't, I didn't do these things, you have to believe me." Corey, sitting in this position, finally showed panic in his voice.

"Didn't? Do you need me to lay out the evidence one by one in front of you?!"

"Both the motive and the evidence point to you. Are you still trying to argue at this point?"

Mo De's tone deepened. Facing these words, Corey lowered his head in shame, not knowing what to say.

"The dismemberment case was also done by you, wasn't it? At least, you should also be an accomplice, right?" Mo De asked in this silent atmosphere.

Upon hearing this, Corey's pupils constricted slightly, and he immediately looked at the Sheriff in front of him: "Captain, the dismemberment case has nothing to do with me! This case really has nothing to do with me!"

"Then why did you ask Old Tang Na for a bone-chopping knife?!" Mo De pressed hard, not giving the other party any extra time to think.

"I..."

Corey was choked by this.

Mo De understood his reaction.

According to Weird Tales Rule Group A, rule six.

[6. The bone-chopping knife forged by Old Tang Na is the murder weapon used to dismember Bosen, but please do not investigate the whereabouts of the bone-chopping knife in depth. The person who used it is very sensitive.]

From this piece of information, Corey getting the murder weapon from Old Tang Na meant he knew at least some important information!

Of course, it was possible that he himself was the murderer!

This was also the reason why Mo De's tone shifted during the silence.

"I really am not the murderer. That bone-chopping knife, another person asked me to get it from Old Tang Na."

"Another person?"

Mo De's eye twitched when he heard this.

One after another, is this nesting dolls?
