860: Chapter 860: Is Betha lying?

Hearing Corey's words, Mo De's mouth twitched: "So the mysterious person's suspect is me?"

Corey was still in contact with the mysterious person yesterday.

And after he looked up the information yesterday, he started drinking heavily.

By the time he woke up, it was already dark.

This mysterious person, first of all, cannot be related to him.

Corey heard Mo De's question but didn't reply.

"Mysterious person." Mo De sat on the chair and muttered.

Based on Corey's narration and two letters of unknown authenticity, all the problems were at this moment pushed onto that mysterious person.

Perhaps the person wearing a hood and a coat in the Weird Tales rules is the mysterious person Corey mentioned!

But it's not absolute.

Another possibility that cannot be ignored is that Corey himself is that mysterious person!

It seems I must go to the Redwood Forest today.

Mo De had a plan in mind.

He wanted to see if the person wearing a hood and a coat truly existed.

If they don't exist, then it can be confirmed that Corey himself is the mysterious person, the murderer!

And if this person is indeed found, it will also be a milestone in the case's progress!

His gaze looked towards the side of the interrogation table.

Beside Mo De was the pistol taken from Corey.

Without a gun, when I meet that guy in the forest, I shouldn't need to run, right?

...

After temporarily detaining Corey, Mo De saw Bertha sitting in the police station's lounge, hugging her shoulders and crying.

"Miss Bertha, our police station will give you a satisfactory resolution. Please try to look on the bright side."

"Look on the bright side? How can I look on the bright side? If you experienced something like this, could you still look on the bright side?" Bertha was like a sorrowful and angry hedgehog, pricking anyone she encountered.

Mo De was temporarily at a loss for how to reply.

"Sheriff Mode, I think everyone in the Town will know about this matter before long." Saying this, Bertha clenched her fists and gritted her teeth: "I plan to leave the Town and start a new life elsewhere. Please help me issue a residency permit."

The woman's tone was full of despair, yet it also revealed a glimmer of hope.

Residency permit.

When Mo De was looking through the files, he had some understanding of this item.

This World is not like the Original World, where you can move freely between villages, Towns, provinces, and cities, and purchase residences.

If you want to move from the Tales of the Weird world to another Town to live for a long time, you must have a residency permit.

And this permit can only be issued by the Town Mayor or Sheriff.

"Alright, but handling those procedures for you will take some time. You'll need to wait a few days." Mo De didn't refuse.

He didn't actually plan to process it for her.

After all, he was swamped with work, and who knew if a major disaster was looming tomorrow or the day after.

Bertha's troublesome matter could just be casually brushed off.

"Then thank you very much, Sheriff!" The woman's tone was grateful.

Looking at her sudden change from gloomy to cheerful, Mo De's heart suddenly skipped a beat.

Can a residency permit make a woman who is mentally exhausted after being raped show such happy emotions?

It's not that Bertha shouldn't be like this.

Rather, her behavior was a bit... deliberate.

It was as if the residency permit was her goal!

Mo De was momentarily in a daze, suddenly feeling that something wasn't quite right.

He checked the time.

7:38

It was not yet eight o'clock in the morning.

Only a little over an hour had passed since he woke up.

And what did he do during this little over an hour?

He went to the locksmith and found out what the lock matched by the key looked like.

He went to Bertha's and, through various clear clues, began to guess her experience.

After going to the Hospital for examination, he directly concluded that Corey was the perpetrator of the rape case!

And there was the recent interrogation of Corey.

In just over ten minutes, he got too much information from that interrogation!

Roughly reviewing, Mo De only felt that today was unusually smooth.

It was not yet eight o'clock, and he had already gathered so much information and pushed the case forward so much.

If viewed in a normal state, it would take him at least two or three days to gather so much information!

However.

It was less than two hours now!

Too fast, everything was too fast!

So fast that it was as if someone had deliberately placed all the clues before his eyes!

How many conclusions had he drawn during this process?

Bertha was raped, Corey was the murderer, the existence of the mysterious person...

Calming down temporarily to review.

Were these all true?!

Corey's words are not credible, then are Bertha's words... all true?

Mo De couldn't pinpoint what was wrong; he felt that most of the information he had gathered today was correct.

The only oddity was still in the timing!

Information acquisition should be like mining; once a mine site is found, a large amount of information is fed back.

And once this batch of information mine sites is exhausted, there is a gap in information, and he needs to figure out the next mine site on his own.

Today, however, Mo De found that the information was like flowing water, constantly appearing before his eyes!

From Bertha describing Corey's behavior and style, to detailing her own state and experience, as well as the fact that the door lock was given by Corey, and the problems found after examining the food at home.

In such a long stream of information, there was actually no gap!

Excluding cheats, then someone deliberately left him this information!

And this deliberately left information often leads a person into an abyss!

Corey said he didn't do anything to Bertha yesterday.

Assuming this statement is true, then Bertha has two possible situations.

One is that the mysterious person drugged her again yesterday, for an unknown purpose.

The second is that Bertha was not drugged yesterday; she was aware of being drugged!

She lied!
