146: Chapter 146 Nanodamping Proves Its Power, Granting Giants Self-Healing Instincts!
3:17 PM, B2 level of Pangu Laboratory.
Su Che sat in front of the console, his fingers tapping rapidly on the keyboard.
The data for that two-millimeter crack on the main screen was pushed to the left, and a brand-new material formula popped up on the right.
"We need to dress the blades," Su Che said to both of them simultaneously. "Liquid carbon nanotube composite damping layer."
Wen Bo leaned closer to the screen, wearing his reading glasses, scanning through the formula parameters line by line.
"A thickness of 0.5 micrometers." Wen Bo looked up. "Can such a thin coating absorb nano-scale high-frequency oscillations?"
"It doesn't rely on thickness to resist it," Su Che said, pulling up a micro-physical simulation animation. "It relies on dynamic cancellation. When the Anti-gravity field frequency sweeps over, the carbon nanotubes inside the coating will undergo reverse physical deformation, converting the resonance energy into weak thermal energy to dissipate it."
Academician Li Zhengyang stood nearby, wiping his sweat-drenched forehead.
"The seventy-two flow-guiding blades that have already been installed will all need to be taken down and redone." Academician Li Zhengyang stated the workload.
"Take them down." Su Che's voice was steady. "There are forty-four hours left in the five-day deadline. There is ready-made carbon nanotube solution in the material warehouse. We don't need to go back to Kaitian Base for spraying; we can apply the coating directly on the B2 level using electrostatic adsorption."
Academician Li Zhengyang didn't waste words; he turned and rushed toward the testing area.
"Group Two and Group Three, bring your tools to the scaffolding!" Academician Li Zhengyang's voice echoed throughout the hall.
Wen Bo took the formula sheet, pointed to a few researchers from the materials group, and walked quickly toward the chemical synthesis chamber in the back.
Jiang Yingxue sat on an equipment crate, looking up from her tablet.
"The second batch of sixty blades has been air-dropped to the designated area," Jiang Yingxue reported. "The Military Science Commission's heavy transport fleet is on its way to Pangu Laboratory, expected to arrive in twenty minutes."
Su Che nodded, pulled the keyboard over, and continued to refine the process parameters for electrostatic adsorption.
Lin Waner pushed a food cart over and collected the empty lunch boxes on the table one by one, putting them into a trash bag at the bottom.
She took out a wet wipe and cleaned the desktop next to Su Che's hand.
"I'll have the kitchen make some millet porridge tonight," Lin Waner said, throwing away the wet wipe. "You people have been eating nothing but meat; your stomachs won't be able to take it."
Su Che looked at the data stream on the screen and gave a grunt of acknowledgement.
Over the next forty hours, the B2 level became exceptionally busy.
Disassembly, spraying, reassembly.
The two-ton flow-guiding blades rose and fell frequently, supported by the Anti-gravity field. The blades coated with the damping layer were a few shades darker, with a matte finish on the surface.
11:00 PM on the fourth night.
The last flow-guiding blade slid into the seventy-second duct hole, the locking mechanism engaged, and it emitted a crisp metallic clank.
Academician Li Zhengyang leaned against the railing of the lifting platform, panting heavily, his protective suit soaked through on the back.
9:40 AM on the fifth day.
Twenty minutes remained before the five-day deadline.
In the center of the underground testing area, all seventy-two force-field duct holes at the bottom of the 100,000-ton skeleton were in place, with two hundred and eighty-eight flow-guiding blades arranged in a perfect geometric array.
Su Che walked to the console with a water cup and pulled over a swivel chair to sit down.
Academician Li Zhengyang and Wen Bo stood behind him, their eyes bloodshot.
"Clear the area," Su Che ordered.
The alarm sounded, and all personnel evacuated the testing area, retreating into the explosion-proof control room.
Su Che pushed down the main control lever.
The high-pressure air pump array started at full power, simulating the strong convective gases during the takeoff and landing of a 100,000-ton mothership, violently pouring into all the duct holes at a speed of 300 meters per second.
The hall was filled with the deafening roar of rushing airflow.
"Anti-gravity base, full load output," Su Che entered the command.
The 360 coupling nodes on the ground erupted with a ghostly blue light, and the 37,000-ton simulated thrust field instantly collided with the airflow.
On the main screen, the aerodynamic data refreshed frantically.
The airflow was perfectly sliced by the flow-guiding blades, and the deadly turbulence at the bottom was forcibly converted into a stable lift field.
Su Che's gaze was locked on the micro-stress monitoring module in the bottom right corner.
Ten seconds, thirty seconds, one minute.
The data remained green throughout.
Not a single curve turned yellow.
The 0.5-micrometer carbon nanotube damping layer absorbed the deadly resonance energy completely, converting it into negligible heat and venting it into the air.
Two minutes later, Su Che pulled back the lever.
The air pump stopped, and the Anti-gravity field output dropped to standby mode.
The hall returned to silence.
Academician Li Zhengyang stared intently at the final inspection report on the screen; all two hundred and eighty-eight blades were intact.
"It held," Academician Li Zhengyang said, his voice hoarse.
Wen Bo took off his reading glasses and let out a long sigh of relief.
In his mind, the blue-and-white system panel popped up on cue.
"[Ding! Main R&D task "Behemoth Takes Off, Can't Flip Over Like a Turtle" completed!]"
"[Force-field duct composite takeoff and landing technology global joint debugging passed! Anti-gravity field and aerodynamic repulsion effect eliminated, takeoff and landing attitude stability 100%!]"
"[Task Reward: 40,000 Skill Points!]"
"[Current host has accumulated 94,000 Skill Points.]"
94,000 points.
Su Che looked at the number on the panel and closed the notification.
He stood up, walked to the explosion-proof glass, and looked at the massive 100,000-ton skeleton outside.
It had a heart, and its gait had been adjusted; it now possessed the physical foundation for stable takeoff and landing within the atmosphere.
Qin Lan pushed open the door to the control room and walked in.
"Consultant Su." Qin Lan handed over a tactical terminal. "The background monitoring report from the Yiren AI Core shows no new warp signals in the gravitational wave frequency band at the edge of the Solar System over the past forty-eight hours."
Su Che took the terminal, glanced at it, and placed it on the table.
"No new signals doesn't mean they've stopped," Su Che said, looking out the window. "It only means they are on their way."
Academician Li Zhengyang walked over and looked at the skeleton, following Su Che's gaze.
"Chief Engineer Su, the takeoff and landing issue is solved." Academician Li Zhengyang rubbed his shoulders. "Should we start filling it with weapons and living modules now?"
Su Che shook his head.
He turned and walked toward the console, pulling up the 3D shell blueprints of the 100,000-ton mothership.
"A volume of 100,000 tons, over a thousand meters long." Su Che drew a circle on the screen. "Such a big guy is an excellent living target in the sky."
Wen Bo took a couple of steps closer.
"Doesn't it have the Full-band Metamaterial Stealth Structure on the outside?" Wen Bo asked.
"Stealth can only prevent detection; it cannot prevent physical collisions." Su Che zoomed in on the armor layer on the surface of the mothership. "In space, a micro-meteorite the size of a fingernail can reach a relative speed of twenty kilometers per second. If it hits the armor, the kinetic energy is comparable to heavy artillery."
Su Che looked at the two old academicians. "Not to mention that what we will face in the future is a high-dimensional civilization capable of intergalactic travel."
"Once the skeleton is pierced, or the load-bearing truss breaks, we won't even be able to repair it in the sky. Rely on people wearing spacesuits to go out and weld? That's called suicide." Su Che tapped his fingers on the table. "I need to think about how to solve this!"
Academician Li Zhengyang and Wen Bo didn't continue the discussion and walked away.
The control room quieted down.
A 100,000-ton behemoth, if it couldn't stop its own bleeding when injured, would just be a giant metal coffin.
In Su Che's mind, the blue-and-white system panel popped up on cue.
"[Ding! Deep space survival and maintenance requirements for the 100,000-ton aerospace mothership detected; main R&D task triggered!]"
"[Task Name: The Behemoth's Self-Healing Instinct!]"
"[Task Content: The deep space environment is harsh, and battle damage is inevitable. Please develop space self-repairing structural module technology to give the mothership's skeleton and armor the ability to autonomously perceive damage and autonomously complete the molding!]"
"[Task Reward: 60,000 Skill Points, unlock redemption permissions for material self-repair activation technology, structural damage monitoring technology, and autonomous completion molding technology; 35,000 redemption points.]"
"[Current host has accumulated 94,000 Skill Points. Redeem?]"
Su Che looked at the task popping up on the panel in his consciousness.
He picked up the water cup on the table and finished the remaining water.
This behemoth not only had to be able to fly, but it also had to be able to take a beating.
