30: Chapter 30: High-Tech Interrogation! One document, and your father's innocence will be cleared!
Just as Scorpion finished speaking, five dark shadows silently surrounded them in the woods.
It was Captain Li Jun's men.
"Move!"
Captain Li Jun's icy voice came through the earpiece of one of the "telecom repairmen."
An encounter broke out instantly in the pitch-black dense forest.
Inside the studio.
Su Che was holding a bowl of freshly brewed pickled cabbage instant noodles, watching the "surveillance wall" made of several broken mobile phone screens with great interest.
On the screen, several thermal imaging feeds were broadcasting the battle in the mountains in real-time.
"Damn, this bunch of people opposite have good equipment."
Su Che slurped a mouthful of noodles and commented vaguely.
In the footage, Scorpion's henchmen, though caught off guard by Captain Li Jun's men, reacted extremely quickly.
They quickly abandoned the stun guns in their hands, drew military daggers and telescopic batons from their tactical backpacks, and began grappling with Captain Li Jun's men.
Their moves were ruthless and well-coordinated; they were clearly tough guys who had licked blood on the edge of a blade.
Especially Scorpion, who was a retired special forces soldier; his skills were even more remarkable.
Although Captain Li Jun's men had superior individual combat skills, they hadn't drawn their guns from the start because they were ordered to capture them alive.
In close-quarters combat, being unarmed and in the pitch-black night, they felt restricted for a moment and couldn't gain much of an advantage.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk."
Su Che shook his head and put down his bowl of instant noodles.
"Timid and clumsy, fighting like total noobs."
"Looks like I have to step in."
He extended his finger and pressed a few buttons on a makeshift console next to him, which was composed of a game controller and several switches.
In the dense forest.
Scorpion was grappling with one of Captain Li Jun's elite soldiers.
The military knife in his hand was wielded fast and viciously, with every strike aimed at the opponent's vital points.
Yet the opponent was like a slippery loach, always managing to dodge his lethal attacks by a hair's breadth.
Just as he prepared to use his old trick again—a feint to deceive the opponent and then strike directly at the throat—
A high-frequency sound wave, sharp enough to pierce eardrums, resounded through the entire mountain forest without any warning!
"Bzzzz—!"
The sound, like countless bees, drilled directly into one's brain, churning crazily.
Scorpion felt his head go "buzz," as if he had been smashed hard with a sledgehammer. Stars danced before his eyes, and a wave of intense nausea surged from his stomach straight to his throat.
"Ugh!!!"
He knelt down on the spot, clutching his head, retching uncontrollably.
His team members were in an even worse state.
Each of them was covering their ears, rolling on the ground in pain, having even dropped their weapons.
Meanwhile, the five men on Captain Li Jun's side seemed completely unaffected.
They only frowned slightly the moment the sound rang out, then, without hesitation, each took one and used pre-prepared zip ties to bind the five twitching mercenaries tightly.
"Done."
The leading elite soldier clapped his hands and said into the earpiece.
"Captain, five rats, all captured alive."
Inside the small building.
Captain Li Jun listened to the report coming through the earpiece and looked at the surveillance footage of those mercenaries who had been subdued and were still twitching on the ground.
He knew this was another one of Su Che's stunts.
But he couldn't figure out how Su Che managed to create such a directional acoustic weapon in such a short time.
And, he was able to precisely avoid his own personnel.
By the time the five rats were escorted to the small building for interrogation.
The encrypted mobile phone on the table vibrated again.
It was still Su Che.
"Manager Li, don't just stand there."
"Hurry up and interrogate them. Ask them what that Ma guy sent them to the back mountain for? I've still got the 'livestream' running here."
Captain Li Jun hung up the phone and suppressed the thoughts in his mind.
He walked over to Scorpion, who was tied up separately on the side, and crouched down.
"Ma Wenju, what did he send you to the back mountain for?"
Scorpion raised his head, spat out some bile, and wore a ferocious sneer on his face.
"Do you think I'll talk?"
Just then, a grain-sized invisible communicator stuffed in his ear suddenly emitted a "crackle" of static.
Immediately after, a lazy voice he had never heard before rang out in his mind.
"Buddy, don't hold out."
"Your final payment is gone; is there any point in still working for that Ma guy? Besides, even if you don't tell me, I know what you're looking for. That thing hasn't been there for a long time!"
"You and that Ma guy have never met; you usually communicate via a single-line contact, right? And you've always used a voice changer? Plus, you use different bank accounts for every transaction?"
"I originally just wanted to annoy him, but I didn't expect it to happen so coincidentally; it actually worked!"
"Oh, right, that 3.2 million USD final payment? I've already anonymously donated it to the Yanran Angel Fund for you. No need to thank me."
Scorpion was numb.
The communication channel had been hacked! And that Ma guy actually fell for it!
"Who are you?!"
"Me?"
The voice laughed.
"I'm the kind soul who collected your salary for you!"
"Don't believe me? Let me play you a recording."
Su Che said, then directly cut off the connection with Scorpion.
He sent the recording to Captain Li Jun's phone and had him play it out loud.
In the recording, there was first a cold, sinister voice.
"Boss, the plan failed. We've been blocked. The military has surrounded the back mountain, and we can't get in!"
Then, there was Academician Ma's frantic, furious roar.
"…Trash! A bunch of trash!"
"Five people, and you can't even get up a mountain!"
"Plan B failed! Execute Plan C immediately! Destroy the thing for me! It must absolutely not fall into their hands!"
"Academician Ma, that's extra."
"Destroying it is fine, but transfer the final payment first, and you'll have to pay more."
"No problem! As long as you can do it, I'll add another five million!"
"Fine, I'll send you the account number. Once we receive the final payment, we'll take action!"
The recording ended there.
The entire small building was dead silent.
The expressions on Captain Li Jun and his elite soldiers' faces could no longer be described as shocked.
They looked at Scorpion, who was trussed up like a chicken, their eyes full of sympathy.
Too miserable.
This guy, not only did his mission fail and he got captured, but even his final payment was intercepted and donated.
This is just... where can he go to reason this out?
A moment later, Su Che sent a bank receipt and transfer record to Captain Li Jun's phone.
Captain Li Jun encrypted the phone, packed it together with the recording, and sent it directly to a special email address.
As for the 3.2 million USD final payment that this kid had donated on his own initiative, he would just have to write a report to General Li.
After doing all this, he stood up and walked to the window.
The sky was about to brighten.
This farce was also coming to an end.
In the morning, Lin Waner was woken up by the urgent ringing of her phone.
It was an unknown number.
She hesitated for a moment but answered it anyway.
"Hello."
"Is this Lin Waner, Teacher Lin?"
On the other end of the line was a soft, sweet, yet slightly lazy woman's voice.
It was Jiang Yingxue.
"Speaking."
"Teacher Lin, don't be nervous," Jiang Yingxue smiled. "I have no ill intentions."
"I just want to discuss a deal with you."
"I have nothing to trade with you." Lin Waner instinctively wanted to hang up the phone.
"Your father, Lin Xiangdong."
Jiang Yingxue tossed out a name unhurriedly.
Lin Waner's hand holding the phone froze instantly.
"I can help your father clear his name."
Jiang Yingxue's voice was full of temptation.
"Let him wash away all the stains on his reputation and be recorded in the history of physics of the Dragon Kingdom with a clean slate."
"I... what do I have to give?" Lin Waner's voice was trembling.
"It's very simple."
Jiang Yingxue chuckled.
"I only want the complete technical data on 'Anti-gravity' materials that Su Che has in his hands."
"You... how do you know..."
"Teacher Lin, this world is far more complex than you imagine."
Jiang Yingxue's tone was meaningful.
"I am just a businessman; I only care about equivalent exchange."
"A piece of top-secret evidence that can clear your father's name, in exchange for a piece of technical data that can make Su Che ascend to the heavens in one step."
"Do you think this deal is worth it?"
Lin Waner did not speak.
She walked to the window and pulled open the curtains.
In the morning light, Su Che was standing in the courtyard, directing a few engineering soldiers to install the strange-looking "Anti-gravity water pump" onto the newly built concrete base at the village entrance.
A confident smile was on his face, and the sunlight spilled onto him, as if plating him with a layer of gold.
Lin Waner gripped her phone, watching that figure, watching the village and the villagers around him who were becoming better and better because of him.
Her heart was in chaos.
