46: Chapter 46 Blackmail?
"The original price of this Storage Ring was 2 million yuan. After deducting the discount and the appraisal fee, you only need to pay 300,000 yuan."
Old Wang said.
Fang Bin nodded in agreement from the side.
Hearing this,
Lin Fan was overjoyed, nearly jumping with excitement.
Fortunately, he managed to keep his expression steady in time.
He gave a muffled grunt.
From beneath his robe, he pulled out the Black Alliance Card and handed it to Old Wang.
Old Wang took out a card reader.
He placed the card on it and swiped.
After pressing a few buttons, he returned the card to Lin Fan.
"300,000 yuan has been deducted. Here is your ring."
Old Wang handed him the ring with a smile.
Lin Fan took the card and the ring, tucking them both into his robe.
With the business concluded,
he was preparing to leave.
However, Old Wang suddenly called out to him:
"Mr. Chen, please wait a moment."
"Our Alliance will be holding an auction in a few months. I wonder if you would be willing to serve as a guest appraiser to evaluate the auction items?
"I guarantee that you will be handsomely compensated for every appraisal."
"Perhaps you might even find something of interest to you at the auction."
Lin Fan remained silent for a few seconds, thinking for a moment before speaking.
"I will consider it."
Old Wang gave a helpless smile and cupped his fists in farewell.
In his view, this answer was much better than a direct refusal.
After leaving the collection room, Fang Bin escorted Lin Fan back to the first-floor lobby.
At this time, the lobby was still crowded with explorers waiting to conduct business.
Countless gazes instantly focused on the two of them.
But they both acted as if they saw nothing.
After a brief farewell, Lin Fan turned and left the Alliance Building.
Stepping out the main door, Lin Fan looked up at the sky.
The sky was already a bit dim, but it was nowhere near as dark as the last time he went home.
"Time to go home."
"Chen Ping, wait for me!"
A woman's voice suddenly came from behind him.
Lin Fan turned around to look; it was exactly that glamorous woman from the Dark Star Team!
Watching her jog toward him, her full chest bouncing up and down with her steps,
Lin Fan felt a wave of heat wash over him, and his face flushed bright red once again.
He didn't dare stop to wait for her, and quickly picked up his pace.
He was a Tier 3 Mage; even if he was just walking, how could a First-Order Mage possibly catch up?
But to his frustration,
the woman was still following him persistently.
Even more embarrassing for him was that pedestrians on the street were glancing over, watching the woman chase and shout after him while he walked away rapidly.
Soon, Lin Fan turned into the secluded alley he usually used to change his clothes.
He immediately stored the mask and robe back into the system space.
Only after changing back into his daily attire did he walk out of the alley.
Just as he stepped out,
he bumped right into the woman who had chased him there. She immediately blocked him and asked:
"Hey, kid, did you see a person wearing a black robe and a white mask enter this alley?"
"I saw him; he ran that way. Hurry up and chase him, you might still catch him."
Lin Fan pointed to the other end of the alley, lying without batting an eye.
The woman didn't suspect a thing and immediately took off in that direction.
Lin Fan shook his head and turned to walk toward his home.
He looked down at the ring on his finger.
The more he looked at it, the more he liked it.
Although he didn't actually need it to store things,
it did look quite cool on his hand.
After walking for over ten minutes, Lin Fan was nearly at the outskirts of Baiyun City.
Just then, something unexpected happened.
"Hey, kid, come over here for a second."
Lin Fan heard a voice coming from a pitch-black alleyway between two half-collapsed buildings.
The windows of both buildings were dark; they were clearly long uninhabited.
Lin Fan looked over; his home was only a few steps away from here.
But he didn't run away; instead, he stepped toward the alley.
He knew exactly what was about to happen...
This kind of thing had happened to the original owner before, and those memories naturally remained in his mind.
If it had been when he first transmigrated,
he probably would have fled in terror long ago, but things were different now.
"Now this is going to be interesting."
A silent smile curled at the corners of Lin Fan's mouth as he slowly walked toward that dark alley.
Inside the alley,
five ragged, fierce-looking men were sitting on old furniture and a discarded trash can.
Tattered strips of cloth were wrapped around their foreheads or arms.
The scars on their bodies were faintly visible.
This group was clearly not up to any good.
Seeing Lin Fan walk over obediently,
the five men exchanged smug smiles.
Lin Fan stopped at the mouth of the alley, confronting the two men a few meters away.
One of them seemed to recognize him and shouted:
"Hey, isn't this the kid from the Lin family? I heard he's a student at the academy."
"Oh? Then he's a mage? We'd better be careful not to trip up in the gutter, hehehe."
"What's there to be afraid of! He's been at the academy for four years and hasn't made a lick of progress. What could he possibly do?"
The five of them chatted as if no one else were there, mocking Lin Fan without restraint.
Only then did they turn their gazes toward him.
"Kid, hand over everything valuable on you, and we'll let you go home without a beating."
A man with a red cloth strip wrapped around his forehead, wearing a tattered sleeveless denim jacket, spoke up.
His right hand brandished a broken glass bottle, deliberately showing it off in front of Lin Fan.
Lin Fan looked at him without saying a word.
Seeing this, the five men all thought the kid was scared witless, unable to even speak.
"Hmph, his family is dirt poor, and this kid is a useless mage. What could he possibly have that's valuable?"
"Forget it, forget it, just let him go."
A man next to him, wearing a dirty tank top with a large scar across his cheek, sighed.
The others all chimed in and burst into laughter.
But just then, one of them caught a glimpse of the ring on Lin Fan's finger.
"He might not have anything valuable, but that ring looks pretty decent."
"Kid, take off that ring and give it to me, then get lost!"
As he spoke, he reached out to snatch it.
Lin Fan looked down at his own finger.
Then he raised his hand, showing off the ring.
"Are you talking about... this ring?"
he asked.
"What else? Is it the gold in your mother's teeth? Don't you dare get cheeky with me! Hand it over now, don't make me get rough!"
The man flew into a rage, spit flying as he shouted at Lin Fan, the veins on his neck bulging.
"Sorry, I can't give you this ring."
Lin Fan lowered his hand and shook his head slightly, speaking in a flat tone.
The five men were momentarily stunned; they clearly hadn't expected this kid to dare refuse.
The man who had demanded the ring was even more shocked; after standing frozen for a moment, he immediately exploded with rage.
"You little brat, you're asking for death!"
He let out a roar, jumped up suddenly, and grabbed a wine bottle beside him.
Clang!
Crack!
He raised his hand and smashed the bottle against the ground.
The bottle shattered instantly.
Leaving only the broken half in his hand.
