Time travel

"Wee-woo, wee-woo, wee-woo, wee-woo."

Wang Xiuyuan opened his eyes groggily, the blaring of an ambulance siren and the roar of the engine rising and falling in succession.

He was lying on a small single cot, with two medical staff in crisp white uniforms sitting beside him. Various medical instruments made the already cramped cabin feel even more crowded.

"Ugh... ah~"

Taiwan Novel Network is super easy to use and very comprehensive.

Perhaps the ambulance driver's skills were subpar; he hadn't controlled his speed well around a corner, jostling Wang Xiuyuan uncomfortably and causing him to let out an involuntary groan.

"You're awake. It looks like you're doing alright. Just hang in there a bit longer; we're almost at the hospital."

A young blonde, blue-eyed nurse comforted Wang Xiuyuan gently, though he knew full well that such gentle comfort came with a price.

Because America is a capitalist country, every service is charged. If all went as expected, the medical bill the hospital would issue him would include an extra item: [Simple Emotional and Behavioral Assessment].

This fee could be charged as soon as a patient showed a pained expression or cried. Although highly controversial, it was perfectly legal and, damn it all, not cheap at all.

Wang Xiuyuan didn't know if he would eventually die, but right now, his stingy self was heartsick to the point of death. That single groan would add several thousand dollars to the bill; it would be a miracle if he wasn't heartsick.

While this blonde, blue-eyed nurse looked decent enough, her level of comforting people was truly abysmal. He had been shot so many times that his body was practically a colander, yet she evaluated him as being 'alright.' How was he supposed to accept that?

So, getting hit by a dozen bullets is standard procedure in America?

You're amazing!

You're so noble!

You're just incredible!

I hope you get shot a dozen times today too!

Just as Wang Xiuyuan was filled with resentment, scenes suddenly flashed through his mind.

Wang An, Wang Lie, Wang An Computer Company, and a guy named Wang Lie mocking him with a distorted face.

"Your mother is just a shameless mistress. You'll never be anything more than an unacknowledged illegitimate child, a bastard. If you dare have thoughts you shouldn't have, just wait for death."

These were another person's memories, except this person shared the same name as Wang Xiuyuan.

As more and more memories flooded his mind, Wang Xiuyuan couldn't withstand it for a moment and blacked out... Inside a private room of a public hospital in New Haven City, Connecticut, Wang Xiuyuan stared blankly at the white ceiling.

That's right, New Haven City, Connecticut.

Wang Xiuyuan, who was originally shot in Los Angeles, California, was now actually in New Haven City, Connecticut. The only explanation was that he had transmigrated.

Transmigrating from 2026 to 1979 into the body of a young Chinese man also named Wang Xiuyuan, he couldn't even tell if this was a good thing or not.

Even though he was in his thirties, had never started a family or been in a relationship, and was what the 'little fairies' called a loser bachelor dog.

His family background was ordinary, his education was ordinary, his height was ordinary, his build was ordinary, and his looks were ordi... actually, his looks were quite decent. While not as handsome as the readers of this book, Wang Xiuyuan's looks were still quite good.

Although Wang Xiuyuan's conditions were average in all aspects, his parents were healthy and the family was harmonious, which was something he was particularly satisfied with.

For him to inexplicably transmigrate to America in 1979, what was that all about? What would happen to his parents? They were getting old.

When his parents were pushing him to marry, Wang Xiuyuan had joked that he would take good care of them until the end, then enjoy himself for a few years with his money, and when he faced some retribution in his old age, he'd go down to accompany them.

Now that he had been sent to this place all of a sudden, who would take care of them?

Moreover, the person he had transmigrated into had a pretty tragic life. His mother was a prestigious university graduate, and he was the product of a drunken night between his mother and her boss, completely unacknowledged by his biological father.

The reason he could transmigrate here was entirely because the original host had been taught a lesson by a gang hired by the eldest legitimate son; presumably, they hadn't controlled their strength and beat the original host to death.

With so much messy bad news converging, Wang Xiuyuan's mind was in a total mess. He only felt that he was truly, truly, truly unlucky.

To be this miserable right after transmigrating, and even being targeted by the eldest legitimate son of a wealthy family—this was America, a capitalist nation where killing an unpowered, uninfluential Chinese person was simply too easy.

There was currently another headache bothering Wang Xiuyuan: why was he in a private room after being brought to the hospital by ambulance? The bed fee for a private room was painfully expensive; the little money his cheapskate mother left behind couldn't be spent on such a place.

The ward door was suddenly opened, and a Chinese man in his thirties walked in. This person was none other than Wang Lie, the wealthy eldest son who had hired people to teach Wang Xiuyuan a lesson.

Speaking of Wang Lie, many people might not be familiar with him. He was the eldest son of the former richest Chinese man, the Computer King Wang An.

Wang Lie sat down in the chair by the hospital bed, leisurely crossing his legs. He looked at the injury-covered Wang Xiuyuan with contempt, a meaningful smile plastered on his face.

In that smile, there was mockery, disdain, and joy, but in Wang Xiuyuan's eyes, that smile was so piercing that he felt disgusted just looking at it.

Behind Wang Lie followed a middle-aged white man. Although Wang Xiuyuan had never worn a high-end suit, judging by the fabric and the fit, it was definitely custom-made.

This middle-aged white man was either an executive of the Wang An Computer Company or a lawyer; there wouldn't be a third identity. Wang Xiuyuan quickly reached a conclusion in his heart.

"You look like you're doing alright. It seems those people were still too light-handed."

Wang Lie was the first to speak and break the ice, but from the smile on his face to the words coming out of his mouth, everything was an attempt to mock Wang Xiuyuan.

'Just how much does this Wang Lie look down on the previous host? From the memories I've received, the previous host never did anything out of line.'

Wang Xiuyuan was utterly baffled; he truly couldn't figure it out.

The previous host hadn't planned on fighting for the Wang family's inheritance. He knew he was just an illegitimate child; if the family assets were truly divided, it wouldn't be his turn. So why on earth would this eldest legitimate son target the previous host?

"Maybe I'm just tough, or maybe I'm lucky. It might not be the same next time.

Actually, you could have totally had those people use knives or guns. In this place, the lives of Chinese people aren't valued at all.

Even if I died, no one would care. After those people finished me off, they could just find a spot to bury me, and no one would notice.

Why did you have to waste time and energy? Could you enlighten me?"

Thanks to the temperament he had developed in management in his previous life, Wang Xiuyuan appeared very calm at this moment, responding neither humbly nor arrogantly.

Combined with the art of speaking nonsense he had honed during his years in state-owned and central enterprises—the art of seemingly saying something while actually saying nothing at all—fiddling through this wouldn't be a big problem.

Wang Lie circled his ear with his pinky and let out a disdainful sneer.

"You can't put it that way. Killing you indeed would be easy, and if done cleanly, no one would investigate. But after all, you are his illegitimate son.

If I just killed you off quietly like that, what would the old man think of me? That could easily affect my share of the inheritance.

So, I can only make you retreat in the face of difficulties."

(PS: Brothers, I posted a total of 12 chapters of that previous book. Five of them were messed with by the censors, and finally, three chapters had large sections of violations that couldn't be released. Now that book has been completely locked in the 'little dark room.')

(I have no choice but to start a new book now. I feel quite sorry for the editor. The book was updated for a total of 6 days, and I was picked up and hammered by the censors for four of them; there were only two days I didn't have to ask the editor to fish me out.)

(This book is definitely full of sincerity. Everyone, please read and cherish it while you can.)

(If you brothers are satisfied with what you're reading, I ask all of you to give a free follow, bookmark, and recommendation vote. It's not easy to earn a living.)
