Multiple choice questions

After arriving in the living room, Wang Xiuyuan walked over and sat down on the sofa as if he were at home. As for the worn-out state of the sofa, he didn't care at all; not a single bad habit of a nouveau riche could be seen on him.

On the contrary, Andrew Smith, who followed behind him, was somewhat at a loss; as the owner of the house, he actually stood blankly in front of Wang Xiuyuan.

The scene looked as if Wang Xiuyuan were the true master of this house.

Wang Xiuyuan naturally noticed this interesting scenario, but he was very clear in his heart about the reason behind it.

He pointed to the sofa beside him and said, "Andrew, no need to be nervous. Sit down and let's talk."

"Before coming here, I already learned about your daughter's illness through the hospital where you had her checked. Although her condition isn't very optimistic, it's not extremely severe; as long as you can afford the money, she can definitely be cured."

"I've consulted your daughter's primary physician. Her illness requires immediate surgery, followed by auxiliary drug treatment. Adding in the costs for post-operative care and other expenses, it will take about four hundred thousand dollars altogether."

"I can afford this money, and I can also have your daughter's illness treated first."

"Now, I need you to give me a reason—what can I get from you?"

Wang Xiuyuan's habits in speaking and acting had never changed; in situations where he was certain no problems would arise, he couldn't be bothered to say a single word of nonsense.

However, this way of doing things was very reasonable. Occupying an absolute position of advantage, Wang Xiuyuan had no need to slowly probe or guide Andrew Smith, who was pleading for his help. He simply threw out the result Andrew Smith wanted most and let the other party bring out a satisfactory bargaining chip for the exchange.

Andrew could choose to make an equivalent exchange, or he could choose to refuse directly.

But aside from Wang Xiuyuan, Andrew might not find a second person willing to make an equivalent exchange with him, whereas there were plenty of trading partners for Wang Xiuyuan to choose from.

After hearing Wang Xiuyuan's question, Andrew didn't hesitate for a second, saying decisively and firmly, "I don't know what you can get from me, and I don't know what I can do for you."

"But as long as you help me cure my daughter's illness, as long as you speak the word, my life belongs to you."

"As long as it isn't something that violates morality, conscience, or is a serious crime, I am willing to do it. Even if you asked me to pull out a gun and commit suicide right now, I would do it immediately."

Wang Xiuyuan smiled and waved his hand; Andrew Smith's answer satisfied him greatly.

Because Andrew Smith's obedience to him had conditions and a bottom line: he wouldn't do things that violated morality, conscience, or were serious crimes, but he would resolutely execute everything else.

Wasn't this exactly the answer Wang Xiuyuan liked best!

If Andrew Smith had directly abandoned all values and moral bottom lines for the sake of treating his daughter, then Wang Xiuyuan would have had to be extremely careful.

People without a moral bottom line are the most likely to betray those around them; they dare to sell out anyone.

"What would I want your life for? Keep your life for your family."

"I won't deny that being my bodyguard might involve some danger in the future, and it's possible you could lose your life."

"I might even arrange for you to carry out some relatively dangerous missions, but the safety is still quite guaranteed relatively speaking; you can rest assured on that point."

"And even if you die accidentally while working for me, your family will definitely be well-provided for."

"Congratulations, you've been hired."

A staff member nearby handed Andrew Smith a card, which had a phone number and an address written on it.

"Now I will ask you one more question. This question will directly determine your future salary level, and this choice is irreversible."

"You must follow your heart and choose carefully. Do you understand?"

"Understood," Andrew nodded, his expression exceptionally solemn, as this matter concerned the amount of his salary.

"Suppose there is a gang boss who has committed countless evils, and I ask you to take him out."

"And afterward, I want you to take out the gang boss's wife and children as well. What would you do?"

What would he do? Andrew fell into a deep internal struggle.

He would definitely not hesitate to kill a gang boss who had committed countless evils because such a person deserved to die; taking out such a person might even be a form of liberation for the people around them.

But the headache-inducing part of Wang Xiuyuan's question lay in the requirement for Andrew to also take out the gang boss's wife and children. This was undoubtedly a difficult problem that tested one's heart and wisdom to the extreme.

Andrew Smith pondered for a moment, then he asked Wang Xiuyuan a question in return.

"Boss, why take out the gang boss's wife and children? Is it necessary?"

"Isn't it enough to deal with the evil gang boss? Why lay a hand on a defenseless woman and child?"

Wang Xiuyuan had asked more than thirty people the same question before. These people's reactions were the same as Andrew Smith's; they would all ask Wang Xiuyuan about the necessity of doing so, or why it had to be done.

But the answer Wang Xiuyuan gave to everyone was also the same.

"My ancestors came from ancient and mysterious Huaxia. The logic and thinking of our nation are completely different from yours."

"Before we make a decision, we carefully consider all issues related to that decision to make it perfect, striving to leave no flaws or hidden dangers."

"In your perception, the matter ends once the evil gang boss is dealt with."

"But in our nation's logic, we consider how the government and the police station will react after the gang boss's death, and what can be done to minimize the possibility of an investigation from government departments."

"Furthermore, we consider what actions the gang he led will take after his death, how many of his subordinates will loyally seek revenge for him, which people, how likely it is, and whether these people need to be dealt with together."

"Out of long-term risk management considerations, we will definitely deal with his woman and children together, because the power of love and kinship is great."

"Take yourself for example. To treat your daughter's illness, aren't you also willing to trade your own life?"

"In the thousands of years of our Huaxia nation's history, there have been countless stories of people enduring for decades to successfully avenge their kin."

"So when people of our nation decide to kill someone, they will definitely think about one question: how to pull up the roots and take out all of that person's relatives, leaving not a single hidden danger."

"Perhaps in your view, the gang boss's wife and children are innocent, but in my view, it's quite the opposite. I believe they should die along with him."

"Because the gang boss's wife and children have all enjoyed the money he earned through illegal crimes and the exploitation of others."

"Since they have used the enjoyment brought by this tainted money, then when the gang boss dies, his wife and children must die with him. It's quite reasonable, isn't it!"

"I've already told you the reason. Now tell me, what is your answer?"
