Chapter 57 Holt's Network of Comrades

In the tranquil garden, Wang Xiuyuan lay leisurely on a lounge chair, reading a book.

Michelle Pfeiffer, wearing a crown and a magnificent golden gown, and Jane Seymour, dressed in a full Statue of Liberty costume, knelt on either side of the lounge chair, massaging Wang Xiuyuan's legs.

This kind of enviable, blissful life was now just a routine fragment of Wang Xiuyuan's daily existence.

As the saying goes, only the ox dies from exhaustion, not the field from plowing, but Wang Xiuyuan, this brute ox, had managed to plow through these prime fields thanks to the advantages of his system.

"Boss, I've gathered all the information you wanted. Take a look and see if anything needs to be added. If it's not detailed enough, I can have someone continue the investigation."

Holt handed a stack of documents to Wang Xiuyuan, who took them and simply flipped through them briefly.

Holt had done an excellent job, gathering very detailed information on the four Chinese gangs: the Ghost Shadow Gang, Anliang Hall, Harmonious Prosperity Hall, and Peace Gang.

From the top leaders of these gangs down to the personal information of each hall master and key members, including their family details, everything was included. While it might not be 100% free of omissions or errors, the accuracy was at least around eighty to ninety percent.

What satisfied Wang Xiuyuan the most was that Holt had even collected information on all the retired gang elders who had gone home to enjoy their twilight years. If Wang Xiuyuan wished, these Chinese gangs could soon face a devastating blow.

Law enforcement agencies need evidence to arrest and convict people, regardless of the source or reliability of that evidence—they must have something in hand.

But Wang Xiuyuan wasn't a law enforcement officer; he just wanted to eliminate these people to earn some system points. After all, these gang members weren't good people, so he felt no guilt.

"Michelle, Seymour, you two go back to your rooms and rest for a bit. I need to discuss something important with Holt."

After Michelle Pfeiffer and Jane Seymour left, Wang Xiuyuan sat up from the lounge chair and lit a cigarette.

"You've done a good job. How did you obtain these materials?

Listen, Holt, I don't mean to distrust you, but before making a decision, I need to assess the risks involved. Do you understand?"

Holt nodded. Having spent so much time with Wang Xiuyuan, he understood his boss's working style well—cautious and meticulous. In many matters, Holt even felt his boss was overly cautious.

His boss was explaining a thing or two because he valued him; Holt wouldn't harbor any negative thoughts about it.

"I understand, boss. I retired from Delta Force. Some of my comrades, if they're lucky, get recruited into the FBI and CIA after retiring.

Most of those who aren't so lucky choose to work for the DEA or local police departments. The skills we retired soldiers have are only useful for these purposes, so I got these materials by contacting my retired comrades.

The only cost was giving them some money. This information is just trivial data to them; they don't care about it at all.

Even if some of the materials weren't in my comrades' hands, as long as I paid a referral fee, they could find reliable people to buy the relevant information.

Pulling off something like this is simple. In America, there's no information money can't buy.

After all, those materials belong to America, but the franklin in hand are their own. They've thought it through clearly.

They can't do much with this garbage anyway. Gangs without backing have already been investigated and sent to prison by them. The ones still thriving now have big shots protecting them, so they can't touch them.

My comrades would be thrilled if this garbage were wiped out sooner."

"So, you got these materials from the police departments, DEA, FBI, and CIA, right?"

Looking at Wang Xiuyuan's expressionless face, Holt felt a bit nervous for a moment, as if he had done something wrong.

"Yes, boss, but I didn't buy materials from my CIA comrades. The CIA's work is mainly focused externally.

I contacted comrades in the police departments, DEA, and FBI. Boston and New York have different management systems, but the number of people who know I bought the materials definitely won't exceed ten."

Wang Xiuyuan scratched his head in frustration, feeling his mind in turmoil.

Now, the most troubling issue for him was whether to proceed with the original plan. A massive amount of system points were just sitting there; how could he get those points to buy things without pulling off a big job?

But the problem was that nearly ten federal law enforcement officers knew Holt had purchased these materials. If he acted now, wouldn't he be handing his own leverage over to others?

Perhaps sensing the reason for Wang Xiuyuan's dilemma, Holt took the initiative to explain.

"Boss, you can rest absolutely assured. I know why you're gathering this information and that it might attract attention from some law enforcement agencies. The people I contacted are all ones I trust.

I've fought alongside them on the battlefield; we're comrades who can trust each other with our backs exposed—life-and-death friends.

When I bought these materials from them, they probably had a rough idea of what I might do. Some things are just frustrating for them too; they also want to use my hands to deal with this garbage.

If any problems arise later, the investigation will at most stop with me."

"Hmm, I understand."

After hearing Holt's explanation, Wang Xiuyuan simply replied and then fell silent. Without further instructions, Holt had no choice but to stand quietly by and wait.

It wasn't that Wang Xiuyuan distrusted Holt. Before recruiting Holt, Wang Xiuyuan had someone conduct a detailed background check. He wouldn't dare keep someone unreliable by his side.

What Wang Xiuyuan distrusted were Holt's comrades.

These people, working in armed law enforcement departments like police departments and the DEA, could engage in selling information for money. It's likely they've done similar things frequently in their daily work.

Even if they share a deep comradely bond with Holt, past reliability only represents the past; it doesn't guarantee they remain reliable now or in the future.

However, Wang Xiuyuan wasn't too worried about this issue. Holt did buy materials from these people, but so what?

Would those people dare to come forward and admit they sold these materials to Holt?

Even if they wanted to testify as witnesses, the senior leaders of the relevant police departments, DEA, and FBI wouldn't allow them to take the stand. Such a scandal of law enforcement breaking the law couldn't be exposed unless it became impossible to cover up.
