Chapter 85 Boss Yin

Boss Yin was the leader of the Ghost Shadow Gang, having smuggled himself into America from Hong Kong with his family in 1966.

When the family of five arrived in America, they were penniless and possessed no useful skills, forced to sell their labor just to scrape by.

If nothing unexpected had happened, Boss Yin would have spent his ordinary and hardship-filled life that way, but life is always full of surprises; by chance, Boss Yin met a few young Chinese hoodlums.

He soon became good friends with this group of hoodlums. Everyone's nature is lazy and selfish, and Boss Yin was naturally no exception.

Soon, these hoodlum friends took Boss Yin to commit some illegal acts, such as theft and robbery.

The money earned from theft and robbery was far more than what could be made through manual labor. After experiencing the thrill of stealing and robbing, Boss Yin was no longer willing to return to manual labor.

Moreover, Boss Yin was a very talented man in the underworld—he had brains, was ruthless enough, and acted with sufficient cunning.

Under his leadership, the Ghost Shadow Gang became one of the five major Chinese gangs in New York by 1970, and in 1974, it annexed the White Eagle Gang to become the largest Chinese gang in New York.

If it hadn't been for an internal rebellion within the Ghost Shadow Gang in 1978, Chinese gangs with a century of heritage like Harmonious Prosperity Hall and Anliang Hall would likely have been unable to escape the fate of being annexed.

New York in this era was the most prosperous city in the world, and its glittering night views were truly one of a kind.

Boss Yin, who usually indulged in a life of debauchery until late every night, unusually chose to go home for dinner today; perhaps it was just a whim.

Sometimes, people inexplicably do something completely out of character with their daily habits, an action devoid of any logic.

But often, this is how people cleverly escape a disaster, though some remain unaware of it.

However, Boss Yin's luck didn't seem very good; what he encountered was not an accident, but a man-made calamity.

As his car reached an intersection not far from home, it was intercepted and stopped by another vehicle.

The driver slammed on the brakes due to the sudden situation. The violent braking caused Boss Yin's head to hit the front seat. Just as Boss Yin was about to lose his temper, he heard the driver's anxious voice.

"Boss, our car's been intercepted. Grab your weapons; watch out for an ambush."

The entourage in the car quickly drew pistols from their waists, staring outside with alert expressions.

The door of the car in front slowly opened, and a white man wearing a baseball cap stepped out with both hands raised, holding a pen in his right hand.

*Knock, knock, knock.*

The white man walked up to Boss Yin's car and lightly tapped on the window.

Seeing that the white man didn't seem very dangerous, Boss Yin lowered the window, but the entourage in the car remained on guard, their hands never leaving the grips of their guns.

"Are you Mr. Yin of the Ghost Shadow Gang?"

The white man spoke very politely and in a calm tone, but Boss Yin inexplicably felt a surge of palpitations in his heart.

"I am. What do you want?"

Seeing Boss Yin's serious expression, the white man couldn't help but smile.

"My boss would like to invite Boss Yin over as a guest. He has some things he'd like to discuss with you in person. Please, Boss Yin, do us the honor."

Boss Yin was displeased upon hearing this. Is this how one invites a guest? Forcing his car to a stop on the road to invite him?

Before Boss Yin could explode in anger, the white man held the pen out in front of him.

"I forgot to mention, Boss Yin's wife, three children, elderly parents, and his younger siblings' entire families are already guests at my boss's place.

You should be somewhat familiar with this pen, shouldn't you, Boss Yin? It seems to be the Christmas present you gave your eldest son last year?"

The stretch of road they were on was quite secluded, the streetlights were dim, and given the sudden situation...

Boss Yin hadn't had time to notice the specifics of the pen earlier, thinking it was just an ordinary fountain pen.

After all, there were so many identical fountain pens that Boss Yin hadn't thought much of it at the time.

However, the fact that the white man before him could clearly state that he had given his son a fountain pen as a gift last Christmas was certainly no coincidence, so everything the man said was true.

Boss Yin's expression turned incredibly grim. He was always the one threatening and intimidating others; he never expected to have his lifeline held by someone else today.

Gritting his teeth, he said, "Isn't this a bit too much? We're all in the underworld; haven't you heard the saying that one's family shouldn't be targeted?

Aren't you afraid of my retaliation for breaking the rules like this?"

The white man smiled, clearly not taking Boss Yin's threat seriously.

"Boss Yin, you worry too much. Your family is eating and drinking well at our place; they haven't suffered in the slightest.

We just wanted to get acquainted with your family beforehand. After all, we might have many collaborations in the future, right?

Please, Boss Yin, come with us. Your subordinates should come along as well.

I give you my word of honor that we're only going to talk business. Neither you nor your family will be in any danger."

As he spoke, the white man tapped his finger on Boss Yin's car door.

"If we wanted to take any dangerous action against you, Boss Yin, you wouldn't have the slightest ability to resist right now.

This luxury Mercedes-Benz is just a standard civilian version; it doesn't have any bulletproof features. Even an ordinary .45 ACP semi-automatic pistol could easily pierce the door.

Not to mention the M16A2 assault rifles in our hands; a single magazine of that thing could turn this car into a sieve.

If we wanted to do anything harmful to you, Boss Yin, you'd all be corpses by now.

Come with us, Boss Yin!"

Boss Yin's expression shifted uncertainly. As an old hoodlum who had been in the underworld for so many years, he knew the white man wasn't bluffing.

If the other party had intended to make a move on him, he would have been a corpse long ago.

But years of experience in the underworld told him he couldn't go with them; doing so would be like a sheep walking into a tiger's den.

He would then be like a piece of meat on a chopping block, left to the mercy of others.

However, the current situation left him no choice. He had to go; the lives of his entire family were in the other party's hands!

Furthermore, the other party was already threatening him quite blatantly.

The car wasn't bulletproof, and an M16A2 assault rifle could turn them all into sieves.

If he went with them obediently, then those words were a safety tip.

If he didn't go with them, then those words were the final warning before they opened fire!

Life is full of such helplessness. Since he couldn't resist life's oppression, he might as well let nature take its course.

Resisting wouldn't add any extra pain; on the contrary, it might be a bit easier.

Although the other party said they were just inviting him to talk business and promised not to touch his family...

He wasn't some newcomer who had just started out. One could just listen to such nonsense; anyone who believed it would be a fool.

Who would kidnap the entire family of a future business partner? Who would dare to cooperate with such a person?
