Three-headed business
Reeves Astor's questioning was a very bad sign. Differences arising before things even started, and all because of a damn conscience—Wang Xiuyuan felt it was incredibly ironic.
These cannibalistic capitalists actually managed to raise a kind-hearted boy.
Wang Xiuyuan had originally intended to give them some time to think it over, but their resolve was firmer than he had imagined.
Especially Locke Vanderbilt; his attitude was extremely resolute.
"I will absolutely not back out. I'm very optimistic about this business plan Wang Xiuyuan proposed. Even if all of you back out, I'll definitely see it through to the end."
"Either we succeed in one stroke, or I'll go die immediately after failing. That is my answer."
After Locke Vanderbilt voiced his stance, Reynoldson Rockefeller and Sanchez Roosevelt followed suit. Back at the hotel, if they hadn't met Wang Xiuyuan, they might have been swindled.
They were now very clear about their own capabilities, so they chose to follow Wang Xiuyuan's development unswervingly.
Before long, everyone had explicitly stated they would execute Wang Xiuyuan's plan, including the kind-hearted Reeves Astor.
"Alright, that little interlude is over. I hadn't finished explaining my plan yet."
"What I just said was only a small part of the plan. You only heard how we can get the poor prisoners to work in factories and make money for us."
"But what about the wealthy prisoners? For example, those gang bosses and underworld leaders—didn't they have a lot of money before they went to jail?"
"And those businessmen and politicians imprisoned for white-collar crimes, as well as those reckless Second-generation rich kids—don't they want a better life in prison?"
Wang Xiuyuan couldn't help but reveal a devious smile. If an outsider saw this, they would surely be startled, but in the eyes of these Second-generation rich kids, this smile only made them happier.
Because the ones suffering would surely be others, while they would only benefit from following Wang Xiuyuan.
"Hurry up and tell us."
"That wise smile of yours makes it feel like I'm seeing countless Franklins waving at me."
"It seems like the opportunities to strike it rich are multiplying."
Looking at the confident crowd, Wang Xiuyuan spoke again.
"Use your heads and think about it. Which of those gang bosses, businessmen, politicians, or Second-generation rich kids could endure such a terrible living environment in prison?"
"Can't we humanely introduce some high-quality value-added services?"
"As long as one is human, there will be desires. With desires, one will strive for all things beautiful."
"Delicious food, nice clothes, a comfortable living environment, various books, music CDs, movie tapes—as long as the prisoners need them, we can provide them."
"Is there any prison across the Federation right now that can provide these material and spiritual enjoyments?"
"No! Not a single one!"
"But when we are in charge of operating these prisons, there can be. Since we are responsible for our own profits and losses, we can provide anything that doesn't pose a safety hazard to the prisoners' lives."
"The prerequisite is that they can afford it."
"However, this is a prison after all. Every item entering or leaving the prison requires significant manpower and resources for careful inspection. These all come with costs."
"So, it's quite reasonable for the fees for these supplies and enjoyments to be a bit expensive, right?"
"Let's charge ten times the normal market price outside. We'll uphold the principle of fair trade."
"The prices are right there; they can choose not to buy."
"As long as those prisoners can afford it, so what if they want to bring in a few beautiful women to serve them? We can provide that service as well."
"There will always be prisoners who want a comfortable living environment, right? Wealthy prisoners will definitely want to live more comfortably."
"Therefore, we can provide single cells for prisoners who can afford them—the kind of single rooms with private bathrooms, air conditioning, and heating."
"As long as they can afford it, televisions, the latest movie and music tapes, Simmons mattresses, gyms, pool tables, and game consoles—everything will be available."
"I've already planned it out; in the future, we can even build a specialized prison with tennis courts, swimming pools, and golf courses, specifically for housing particularly wealthy prisoners."
"Of course, the cells in such high-end prisons will also be outrageously expensive. Isn't it reasonable to charge hundreds of thousands or even a million dollars a month per person?"
"What do you think?"
As Wang Xiuyuan finished this shocking proposal, a burst of warm applause rang out once again, followed by a wave of flattery.
"Absolutely no problem. These rich people will definitely be willing to spend this money. They have plenty of it; what they fear is not being able to get good things even with money in prison."
"Exactly. As long as they want it, we'll get anything in for them except for weapons that can hurt people."
"After all, we run the prison; we have the final say on what goes in."
"This plan is absolutely solid; it will definitely succeed."
"I'm not finished yet. Did you think this was all?"
The moment Wang Xiuyuan said this, the room fell silent. They never expected that he would have even more surprises waiting for them.
"I've said so much, all about how to make money from the prisoners in the prison. Is that it?"
"Has anyone carefully considered one question: Why would the various states of the Federation hand over the prisons to us for management? Just because we found people to pull some strings?"
That's right. A prison isn't something you can just take over because you want to. It's impossible to get the management rights of a prison so easily based on connections alone.
This question from Wang Xiuyuan was no surprise; it was clearly a bucket of cold water poured directly over their heads, instantly snapping them back to reality.
Seeing these people fall into silence with furrowed brows, Wang Xiuyuan stood up and walked to a sideboard, taking out a stack of documents and handing them to everyone.
"Don't look so gloomy. Things aren't what you imagine; this is a great thing."
"The documents in your hands detail the expenditures of all prisons in New York State, Delaware, and New Jersey over the past five years."
"Starting from 1970, the America federal government launched a harsh 'War on Drugs' to combat narcotics, and courts have mostly imposed heavy sentences within the sentencing guidelines for various crimes."
"The combination of these two factors has caused the number of prisoners in jails to skyrocket over the last decade."
"There are seventy-six prisons in these three states total, but without exception, the annual expenditures for all prisons continue to soar, already placing a heavy burden on the treasury."
"Take the Wells County Public Prison in New York State as an example. This prison houses a total of over 3,200 inmates, all of whom are serious offenders sentenced to more than twenty years."
"Just the annual utility costs, staff salaries, and the expense of feeding those 3,200+ inmates for this prison exceed $150 million. Averaging all expenses, it's about $400 a month per prisoner."
"These people are entirely supported by the federal and state governments' fiscal spending. Do you think the federal and state governments are willing to waste this money?"
"Now, if a company stepped forward and told them they were willing to take over this bottomless pit of a prison, and the federal and state governments only needed to provide the company with a subsidy of $250 per person, do you think they would agree?"
Without a doubt, when this question was placed before the federal and state legislators, everyone would choose to cast a vote in favor.
