24: Chapter 24 Blood Wolf Tribe
Just as he stepped into the Myriad Races Market, the gazes cast from all around made him feel a subtle sense of scrutiny.
It was not hostility, but a condescending appraisal, like a hunter evaluating a newly appeared prey.
"Newcomer." A rough voice came from the side.
Wang Sheng turned his head and saw a burly middle-aged man standing behind a stall selling Savage Beast furs. His bare upper body was covered in scars left by Savage Beast scratches, and a pair of shrewd, small eyes were sizing up the three of them.
"Which tribe are you from?" the middle-aged man asked.
"Bright Tribe," Wang Sheng replied calmly.
"Bright Tribe?" The middle-aged man's small eyes narrowed. "Never heard of it. Camp-level?"
"Camp-level."
The middle-aged man let out a "scoff" and laughed, shook his head, and stopped speaking, turning away to greet other customers.
The contempt in that laugh was undisguised; in this Myriad Races Market, a camp-level tribe didn't even count as an ant.
Murong Xue's brows furrowed slightly, and her hand gripping her spear tightened involuntarily. Wang Sheng reached out and pressed her shoulder, shaking his head slightly.
"Let's go, let's see what there is to trade first."
The three walked along the main road of the market. Liu Ruyan's gaze constantly swept across the surrounding stalls and crowds, her phoenix eyes like two precision mirrors, taking in every notable detail.
Murong Xue kept herself half a step to Wang Sheng's side at all times, the spiritual energy on her silver armor flowing like water, ready to respond to any sudden situation at any moment.
The scale of the market far exceeded Wang Sheng's imagination.
Savage Beast furs, Savage Beast crystals, raw spirit stone ore, wild herbs, spirit food seeds, Savage Beast bone materials...
Stalls filled with various resources were dazzling, but the prices were also ridiculously high. A medium-quality jade heart herb was priced at fifty gold crystals.
"Gold crystals" were the universal currency of this world.
In the System Shop, contribution points could be used to exchange for these "gold crystals." 1 contribution point could be exchanged for 1 gold crystal.
The Bright Tribe's current total contribution point balance was just over five hundred; buying ten would drain it completely.
"What about spirit potato seeds?" Wang Sheng stopped in front of a spirit food stall.
The stall owner was a female of the Elf Race, her pointed ears long and slender like willow leaves, her emerald eyes like the lake water of spring, and a head of pale gold hair cascading onto her shoulders like sunlight.
Her figure was tall and graceful, and the exquisite curves faintly visible under her light green dress were like a flower stem soaked in morning dew. The aesthetic of the Elf Race was truly well-deserved; each one looked like a fairy who had walked out of a painting.
"Spirit potato seeds?" The Elf Race female's voice was like a clear spring striking stone. "We have them. However..."
Her emerald eyes swept over Wang Sheng and Murong Xue. "The spirit field level of a camp-level tribe is not high enough to grow the best quality spirit potatoes. I suggest you buy ordinary seeds to transition first."
"How many gold crystals for ordinary seeds?"
"Thirty gold crystals per bag, one bag can plant about half a mu."
Thirty gold crystals. Wang Sheng calculated silently in his heart; the Bright Camp's spirit fields currently had about two mu, and to replant everything would require at least four bags, which was one hundred and twenty gold crystals.
Plus the Savage Beast bone materials and spirit herbs... the budget was simply not enough.
"Can I buy on credit?" Wang Sheng asked.
A hint of polite but firm refusal flashed in the Elf Race female's emerald eyes. "The rules of the Myriad Races Market: no credit."
Wang Sheng nodded and did not insist. He looked at the stall for a while longer, memorizing the price and quality of the spirit potato seeds, then continued walking forward.
Liu Ruyan had disappeared into the crowd at some point. Wang Sheng knew she had gone to gather intelligence and was not worried; the stealth ability of a Phantom Assassin was like a fish in water in a crowded environment like the market.
After walking about half a street, Wang Sheng stopped in front of a Savage Beast bone material stall.
The stall owner was a middle-aged male of the Beast Race, with tiger ears and a tiger tail, his physique as burly as a small mountain, and in front of him were various Savage Beast bones and claws.
Wang Sheng was selecting Iron-Armored Bear bones; the Weapon Refinement Workshop needed Savage Beast bone materials to craft weapons and armor, when he suddenly heard a commotion behind him.
"Move aside, move aside! The Blood Wolf Tribe is conducting business; bystanders, step back!"
Wang Sheng turned around.
A group of people strode over from the main road of the market. Leading them was a burly man nearly two meters tall, his black-red hair tied behind his head like burning flames, a pair of dark red pupils as sharp and greedy as a wolf's.
He wore armor sewn from Savage Beast skins, and the armor was covered in decorations made from Savage Beast claws and teeth, each step he took carrying a savage sense of oppression.
Rank 1 Barbarian General, the chieftain of the Blood Wolf Tribe.
Behind the burly man followed a dozen or so tribal warriors, all of them at the Barbarian Warrior level, aggressive like a pack of hungry wolves released from a cage.
They pushed aside the pedestrians along the way, and the stall owners lowered their heads to make way, some even packing up their stalls directly to avoid them, evidently not unfamiliar with this group.
Wang Sheng did not move.
He stood in front of the stall, watching the group approach with a calm gaze.
Murong Xue was at his side, the spiritual energy on her silver armor flowing slightly, her brown ponytail swaying gently behind her, her expression as cold and stern as iron.
The burly man walked up to Wang Sheng, his dark red pupils sizing him up, then swept over Murong Xue, his gaze lingering on her silver armor and spear for a moment, before sliding to her heroic and dashing face and the fit, powerful figure beneath the silver armor, a frivolous smile curling at the corner of his mouth.
"Yo, a human chick? Not bad looking."
The burly man reached out a thick hand, wanting to touch Murong Xue's silver armor. "This armor is not bad either, what rank is it? Take it off and let me see."
"Slap."
Murong Xue's silver spear blocked the space between the burly man's hand and her body, the spear shaft colliding with the burly man's wrist with a crisp sound.
Her brown eyes shot at the burly man like two beams of ice, and the corners of her mouth lifted slightly in a cold sneer. "Don't reach out where you shouldn't."
The burly man's expression changed.
He withdrew his hand, the frivolity in his dark red pupils instantly turning into rage. The spiritual pressure of a Rank 1 Barbarian General pressed toward Murong Xue like a small mountain, but under the neutral barrier of the Myriad Races Market, this spiritual pressure was like a punch hitting cotton, silently absorbed by the silver-white barrier energy.
"You," the burly man's face turned livid.
"Blood Wolf Tribe, right?" Wang Sheng's voice cut in calmly.
He stood at Murong Xue's side, neither retreating nor advancing, as if the person standing before him was not a Rank 1 Barbarian General chieftain, but an insignificant passerby. "If you start a fight within the neutral barrier of the Myriad Races Market, you will bear the consequences," Wang Sheng said with a calm expression.
The burly man's dark red pupils suddenly turned to Wang Sheng, the spiritual pressure shifting from Murong Xue to him. Rank 1 Barbarian General against Rank 2 Barbarian Warrior; they were a whole major rank apart.
However, under the spiritual pressure, Wang Sheng's Holy Light Warrior constitution was like an iron pillar rooted in the earth, the holy light automatically circulating within his body to form a barrier against the external pressure, and his expression didn't even change.
"Camp-level?" The burly man sneered, judging the level of the Bright Tribe from the spiritual energy fluctuations he felt from Wang Sheng. "A pathetic camp that doesn't even count as a village, and you dare to act tough in front of me?"
He took a beast bone token from his waist and waved it in front of Wang Sheng. The token was engraved with the totem of the Blood Wolf Tribe, and below it were the three barbaric characters for "Tribe-level."
