13: Chapter 13 Strange Smell
If Su Su could speak right now, she would definitely have to sigh.
"Where is my two-meter-tall brother?"
"I haven't seen you for a day, how did you grow to six meters tall!"
"Is there any common sense left?!"
Seeing the little fellow's skeptical gaze, Su Mo couldn't help but reach out a finger to rub her small head, only to nearly flatten Su Su against his hand.
He awkwardly withdrew his hand and gave a dry laugh.
"Haha~ Your brother grew a bit too fast and couldn't quite control his strength..."
Only after this petting was Su Su convinced that this was indeed her cheap brother; she hurriedly nuzzled Su Mo's finger, letting out excited "wuwu" sounds.
Seeing this, Su Mo felt like a father watching his young daughter grow up, and a smile couldn't help but play on his lips.
"Look what I brought you..."
As he spoke, he pulled out a snakeskin bag from his waist, spread it on the ground and opened it, revealing the contents: a small blue fruit and a piece of tender pink flesh covered in streaks of blue juice, looking very appetizing.
"This little fellow can be considered to have had a 'three dishes and one soup' meal."
Seeing the light on Hearts Eye's antlers, the little fellow seemed to find the mushroom in her arms no longer appealing; she finished it in a few bites along with the white porridge.
Su Mo didn't know how the little fellow's stomach was constructed, that it could actually hold a piece of meat larger than her head.
After finally eating that blue fruit, Su Su immediately appeared drowsy, yet she forced her eyelids open, her small paws constantly reaching toward Hearts Eye's antlers; Su Mo could only place her on Hearts Eye's head.
Clutching the antlers that emitted a soft blue light, Su Su let out a satisfied yawn and gradually began to breathe softly.
Hearts Eye rolled its eyes upward, standing stiffly in place, its deer head not daring to move an inch.
"Hearts Eye, just bear with it for now. I'll take the night watch tonight."
Hearing this, Hearts Eye could only slowly crouch down and curl up its body, its head resting flat on the ground.
Su Mo leaned against a tree, his ears twitching as he remained vigilant of his surroundings. After reaching Rank Two, he found he hardly needed to sleep, but he got hungry very quickly, needing to drink a large amount of white porridge almost every half-hour.
He didn't think much of it; it was likely that as his body grew larger, his energy consumption naturally increased as well.
Suddenly, his moist nose twitched involuntarily as he caught a strange, delicate fragrance; the scent seemed to be emanating from Su Su.
Su Mo snapped his eyes open and looked at Su Su, finding that she seemed to have grown a bit, and something seemed to be growing at the base of her tail.
Leaning in to see by the light, he could see a thumb-sized bump growing at the base of Su Su's tail.
Su Mo had spent so much time with her that, aside from not knowing how many hairs she had, he knew her entire body's condition by heart; this bump naturally couldn't hide from his Dharma Eye.
"Is this a hemorrhoid or a tumor? Should I cut it off for her..."
"I haven't fed her anything spicy either!"
After thinking for a long time, Su Mo was momentarily undecided. The little fellow should be evolving, so whatever was growing at the base of her tail probably wasn't anything bad. He decided to leave it alone for now; it wouldn't be too late to cut it off later if there were problems.
"Zhi zhi!"
A Field Mouse squeaked as it darted past Su Mo, rushing toward Su Su.
"Hmm?"
"What's wrong with this mouse? Is its brain short-circuited?"
"Aren't they usually quite timid?"
Su Mo reached out two fingers, catching the Field Mouse in the blink of an eye, and brought it close to his eyes to observe carefully.
The Field Mouse writhed frantically between Su Mo's fingers, a crazed look in its eyes as it stared fixedly at Su Su on the deer's head.
"No! This Field Mouse was clearly lured over by the scent on Su Su..."
"There's something very wrong with the scent the little fellow is giving off!"
When he first underwent Transmigration, he had smelled that the scent on Su Su wasn't the usual fox musk, but a strange, delicate fragrance.
As she grew larger, the fragrance on her became stronger; Su Mo had smelled it for so long that he didn't feel anything, as if he were immune.
But now it seemed this scent was highly seductive to other creatures, as if eating Su Su would grant them something.
Su Mo casually crushed the Field Mouse and tossed it into his mouth, then untied the snakeskin from his body and draped it over Hearts Eye's head, hoping to mask the increasingly thick scent on Su Su.
Unfortunately, the effect wasn't great; quite a bit of scent still wafted out, attracting many salivating creatures.
The newborn sun pierced the darkness, rising from the east as usual.
The scent emanating from Su Su finally began to recede, and Su Mo breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, there were no creatures stronger than him nearby, otherwise he would have had to take his family and run for it.
Over the course of the night, he had eaten over fifty Field Mice, over a dozen various snakes, and many other unnamed creatures, causing his leveling progress to increase significantly.
[Host: Su Mo]
[Race: Red Fox]
[Rank: Rank Two (3512/10000)]
[Skill: Infinite White Porridge (Never Expires)]
[Talent: Savage Growth]
His height had grown by another half-meter, reaching about six and a half meters, and the strength of a single arm had increased to three tons.
Winning such a massive boost purely through quantity, Su Mo couldn't help but lick his lips, looking forward to the next buffet.
"Wu~"
Su Su's voice came from beneath the snakeskin; Su Mo hurried to take the snakeskin back and wrap it around his waist.
Don't misunderstand, it wasn't because he was shy.
Su Su slowly opened her bleary eyes and stretched comfortably; before she could react, she felt herself being lifted into the air in the next second.
After placing the little fellow in his hand and checking her carefully from top to bottom, he finally asked:
"Do you feel any discomfort anywhere?"
"Wu?"
"It's nothing. Good to know you're fine."
Hearts Eye also seemed to have not slept all night; as soon as Su Su left its head, it opened its eyes and stood up.
After feeding the fox and the deer until they were full, Su Mo led them in the direction where the Black Bear had left earlier.
Because his body had grown larger and a new member had been added, the nest built previously was definitely no longer habitable; the urgent priority was to find a place to stay.
After much consideration, he still felt that the previous Black Bear's place was good. Su Mo's current size wasn't much larger than that Black Bear's, so its cave would definitely be spacious enough.
It was also the perfect chance to settle the old score; he had been eyeing those thick bear paws for a long time.
A tall and sturdy creature with a fox's head and a human's body leading a deer, with a small fox—pure white except for a red tail tip—perched on the deer's head; it looked exactly like a primitive man out walking his dog, with his little daughter perched on the dog's head.
The fox and the deer traveled quickly, arriving in moments at the lake where the Ink Snake, which had yet to transform into a flood dragon, resided.
This time, Su Mo didn't plan on getting close. He estimated that the Ink Snake was likely Rank Three, and he definitely couldn't beat it, not to mention it was in the water and he wasn't a good swimmer; going there would just be providing a meat dish for it.
After circling the outer perimeter of the lake, Su Mo finally found signs of the Black Bear: clear bear claw marks on a tree and distinct footprints on the ground. The soil around the footprints was somewhat dry, looking like they were from several days ago.
