30: Chapter 30 The Power of Dogs

The smile on his face instantly vanished, replaced by a sinister grin.

"You little brat, you're out of luck..." The waiter gently pinched Su Mo's cheek. "After the proprietress left, the shopkeeper treated me like his own son."

"Now he's getting thinner by the day, I estimate it won't be long before..."

"Hmph hmph hmph, I'll be the shopkeeper of Piaoxiang Pavilion."

Thinking of this, the waiter couldn't help but cover his mouth and chuckle.

"I can't let you, this little bastard, ruin my plans..."

The waiter immediately reached out his large hand to smother Su Mo, but his hand stopped mid-air, unable to fall.

"Damn it! I never hesitated when killing chickens or geese, so why can't I bring myself to do it to you, little brat?"

The waiter's eyes flickered with uncertainty, and he hesitated for a moment.

Finally, he let out a sigh of relief.

"Bad luck!"

"Creak!"

The wooden door was opened a crack again. The waiter cautiously poked his head out, looked around, and only after confirming that there was no one in the alley behind him, did he carry Su Mo out.

Deep in the alley were two wooden barrels as tall as a person and many miscellaneous items. Normally, leftover food from Piaoxiang Pavilion would be poured into these barrels, and at a set time, someone specialized would come to collect them.

However, usually before that time, the contents of the barrels would be eaten clean by beggars and stray dogs.

The waiter placed Su Mo behind the wooden barrel, then put some miscellaneous items on him, ensuring that no one could see him at a glance and that his voice couldn't be heard. Only then did he clap his hands and return to the shop.

"Little brat, don't blame me for being heartless when you're down there. I just want to live a better life..."

...In a pitch-black space without a trace of light, a faint stench of stale swill could be smelled, and not far away, there were the rustling footsteps of stray dogs.

Su Mo really hadn't expected that, barely half a day after being born, he would become an unwanted "third-hand goods."

At an age too young to hold a stone, he had already tasted all the joys and sorrows of life.

After an unknown period, Su Mo heard many small footsteps constantly moving around him.

Suddenly!

A strong force suddenly pulled the swaddling clothes, dragging him out from the pile of miscellaneous items.

In the dimness, several pairs of green eyes roamed around; they belonged to several starving stray dogs.

The stray dog that had dragged Su Mo out was about to pounce and savor this hard-won delicacy when it suddenly let out a mournful yelp.

A larger stray dog nearby bit the other dog's neck, and foul-smelling, warm blood splattered onto Su Mo's small face.

The alpha stray dog shook off its dying companion and stepped forward, preparing to slowly enjoy the tender, milky-scented flesh. The surrounding stray dogs, seeing this, scattered and whimpered in submission.

Su Mo watched with wide eyes as the stray dog opened its mouth, its sharp, yellowed fangs, still bearing unknown food residue, approached his face bit by bit.

The nauseating breath hit his face, forcing him to hold his breath.

"If this were modern times, if you lived until tomorrow, I'd call you daddy!"

Su Mo secretly activated his skill. Infinite White Porridge instantly clogged the stray dog's nostrils, throat, and eyes.

The stray dog immediately retreated in a panic, letting out intermittent wails, its paws constantly scratching at its face, trying to dig the white porridge out of its mouth and nose.

But it was useless. After a few breaths, the alpha stray dog lay weakly on the ground, only its front legs occasionally twitching.

The other stray dogs, seeing this, let out terrified growls and scattered with their tails between their legs.

After driving away the stray dogs, the alley returned to silence, with only Su Mo's faint breathing audible.

"At this rate, even if I don't starve to death, I'll freeze to death!"

An infant's digestive system is very weak and cannot digest anything other than breast milk.

So, even if Su Mo could summon Infinite White Porridge, he wouldn't dare to drink it; a single grain of rice could get stuck in his throat and kill him instantly.

Just as Su Mo lay in the snow, worrying alone, he suddenly heard footsteps outside the alley.

"Strange? When did my hearing get so good!"

With this question, he opened his personal panel.

Host: Su Mo

Race: Human

Rank: Mortal (0/100)

Skills: Infinite White Porridge (Never Expires), Infinite Noodle Making

Talent: Myriad Races Furnace (Dog's Five Senses)

After checking, he found that the talent column originally only had Myriad Races Furnace, but now a few more words appeared after it.

"Dog's Five Senses?"

"Could it be because I accidentally drank a mouthful of dog blood just now..."

"Damn it! Am I going to start smelling even rocks as fragrant now?!"

Su Mo took a deep sniff and immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

"Good, the swill still smells awful."

Then, he carefully assessed his body's condition.

His limbs felt much stronger than before, but standing up would likely be difficult.

His biting force had also increased. He tried to hold a mouthful of white porridge; although he had no teeth, he managed to grind the rice grains with some effort.

After drinking a mouthful of porridge, his stomach felt warm, and his body temperature seemed to have risen considerably.

"The food problem is solved, but as for a place to live..."

Su Mo glanced at the small wooden door in the middle of the alley.

"Am I supposed to crawl over there myself and knock on the door?"

"Hehehe~ That would definitely scare the waiter to death."

Just as he was wondering whether to drape the swaddling clothes over himself and crawl out to find a good family, the footsteps outside the alley grew closer...

"Thump!"

"Thump!"

The person seemed to have difficulty walking; Su Mo clearly heard the sound of a wooden stick hitting the ground mixed with footsteps.

As the sound grew closer, a hunched figure appeared before Su Mo.

"Strange? Why is there a dead dog here?"

The old man poked the dog's corpse with his wooden stick. Seeing no reaction, he squatted down with relief.

Su Mo then got a clear look at the old man's appearance, which was different from the beggar he had imagined.

Although the old man's white hair was messy, it showed no dirt. His gray cloth robe had many patches, yet it inexplicably gave him the air of a scholar.

"This stray dog was actually choked to death by white porridge!"

The old man suddenly narrowed his eyes, dabbed some of the white porridge from the ground with his withered fingers, rubbed it between his fingertips, and brought it to his nose, revealing a shocked expression.

The old man stood up and quickly walked to the wooden barrel. He looked down, and it was completely clean, with no trace of white porridge.

Seeing this, he shook his head helplessly, completely baffled.

"How strange, how strange. Could this white porridge have fallen from the sky and landed right in the stray dog's mouth?"

He stared at the stray dog for a moment, then sighed deeply and turned to walk towards the alley entrance.

A scholar's integrity wouldn't allow him to snatch food from a stray dog's mouth.

Su Mo saw the old man about to leave and grew anxious.

What's going on?

I'm a person this big, lying here for half a day, and you didn't even see me?

He quickly called out.

"Hey!"
