37: Chapter 37 Lu Chen Makes a Move

On the vast wilderness, everyone was stunned.

The air was filled with despair.

It was wrong.

It was wrong.

Everything was wrong.

There were no monsters with weakened strength, only a catastrophic disaster.

They were surrounded.

Dozens of E-rank monsters had closed in.

Escape was no longer possible.

Captain Lü Xingjia suddenly gave a bitter smile.

His eyes were bloodshot from intense emotion.

"My daughter was born only a few months ago... If I die here, my family definitely won't survive."

He looked at Lu Chen.

His voice was filled with deep guilt.

"I'm sorry, Brother Lu... I am a sinner."

"Due to my greed, I may have caused the Human Race to lose one of its most potential-filled Prodigies. I fear I will go down in infamy."

Lu Chen blinked.

He was speechless.

Captain, what on earth are you talking about?

Anyone who didn't know better would think we were dueling a B-rank Monster.

It's just a mere D-rank level one.

Calm down, Captain... With your team member here, no monster can harm you!

Lu Chen thought silently to himself.

Captain Lü Xingjia's eyes were already filled with despair.

Or rather, everyone on the battlefield was in despair—except for Lu Chen.

The group was surrounded by hundreds of monsters.

Not far in front of them stood a six-meter-tall Fire-Scaled Beast.

Its eyes were burning with flames, and its entire body radiated terrifying heat.

It was the king of this pack of monsters.

As soon as it gave the command, the surrounding monsters would swarm forward like the most loyal soldiers.

The Fire-Scaled Beast tilted its head, looking down at the human warriors with a mocking gaze, just like one would look at a group of ants.

Suddenly, Luo Dafei spoke up.

"Captain, don't say that, and don't blame yourself. Before I die, I want to tell you that you are the best and most competent captain I have ever met."

"If there is an afterlife, I hope we can be on the same team again. I'll go first. I don't want to see you die before me."

Luo Dafei's eyes were firm, like a soldier ready to face death.

Even if he died, he would take one or two monsters down with him.

Hearing Luo Dafei's words, Captain Lü Xingjia's eyes grew even redder.

His throat felt dry, and he felt a bit suffocated.

Suddenly, he burst into loud laughter.

"Hahaha, good brother, you are right. You certainly couldn't find a captain as responsible as me."

This time, Captain Lü Xingjia did not show humility, laughing and boasting.

Luo Dafei stopped in his tracks and looked back, his eyes bloodshot.

Captain Lü Xingjia continued.

"Let's do it together. Let's show these beasts that our Spark Squad are not cowards, hahaha!"

Upon hearing this, the other team members were filled with high Spirits.

Although they were certain they would die today, there was not a trace of fear in their eyes.

Captain Lü Xingjia's heroic laughter echoed in the night sky.

The other teams were also stirred to excitement upon hearing it.

Zhang Feihong roared.

"Did you hear that? Are you going to let Spark Squad steal all the spotlight? Let us show everyone else the true mettle of our Blood Mastiff Squad!"

The captains of the other three squads were also pumped up, shouting and encouraging their team members as if some honor was about to be snatched away.

However, Lu Chen remained silent.

Although he was very confident, he was still moved by the courage these warriors displayed in the face of death.

It seemed he really needed to act quickly.

Otherwise, he really didn't know what would happen next.

Then he looked at the monsters around him.

Dozens—no, hundreds—of monsters were surrounding them, as if waiting to begin a grand feast.

There were blood wolves with protruding fangs, giant black scorpions with tails flashing blue light, patterned snakes with a blue horn on their heads, black-striped tigers with two heads, apes with eight arms, and so on.

Lu Chen walked to the side, saying nothing.

He didn't even move much, but slowly opened his backpack.

Ten pitch-black Flying Swords flew out from the sword pouch, shooting into the sky accompanied by the sharp sound of metal piercing the air.

In the chaos after dusk, in a corner that no one noticed, a gentle breeze blew by, scattering the dust on the ground.

Then, the massacre began.

Streaks of black Flying Swords, like bolts of black lightning, flashed across the night.

The Flying Swords disappeared—and then reappeared, inside the bodies of the monsters.

One.

Two.

... Seven.

... Thirteen.

...

Every Flying Sword moved rapidly as if it had a mind of its own, dancing gracefully on the battlefield, slashing throats, piercing eyes, and tearing through flesh and armor.

At this moment, those sturdy furs and scales were like paper.

The warriors surrounded by monsters, who were just about to face death bravely, were all stunned, their jaws dropping in astonishment.

A female warrior panted heavily, her Spirit in shock as she asked, "What happened?"

Her teammate beside her shouted, "Look! They are falling! Those monsters are dying!"

The monsters fell, wailing one after another, crashing to the ground—some were split in two, others had a hollow hole drilled through their heads.

The remaining monsters looked around in panic, unable to find the cause of their companions' deaths.

Even the Fire-Scaled Beast was startled, its heart filled with confusion.

Its glowing crimson eyes scanned the surroundings, and it opened its mouth to roar, trying to find the enemy.

But there was nothing.

No fist wind from warriors wielding Combat Techniques, no scent of anything.

There was only silent death coming from nowhere.

Meanwhile, the human warriors could hardly believe their eyes.

"Who did this?!"

"Have we been saved?"

"Someone has taken action... It's a powerhouse of our Human Race!"

"We are saved... Whoever you are... thank you!"

Some of them even wept with joy.

Despair and fear receded, and everyone was overwhelmed by sudden hope.

Meanwhile, Lu Chen stood there like a statue, hands in his pockets, watching everything silently.

He didn't come here for applause.

He didn't do this to win respect either.

He just wanted to do it—and he did.
