487: Chapter 49 Guiding Fate
He was not a Cultivator at this moment, with not a trace of Cultivation energy within his body.
Forcing his talent to activate consumed his own life force.
The immense drain instantly left him utterly weak and frail.
Seeing Lu Chen collapse to the ground,
Luon was jolted awake as if from a dream.
"Lu Chen, what's wrong?"
Lu Chen gave a weak smile.
"I'm fine. Let's first figure out where we are."
Luon helped Lu Chen up, carefully supporting him as they walked forward step by step.
This place looked
like a remote, small mountain village.
Just then,
they spotted a villager passing by.
"Hello, uncle. Could you tell us what this place is called?"
Luon asked politely.
The man, seeing two children—
one of them looking terribly weak—immediately quickened his pace and approached.
"Child, what's wrong with your friend? Is he alright?"
Seeing the man's warm concern, Luon felt a surge of relief.
"He's just a bit weak. Uncle, is there a doctor here?"
The man thought for a moment before replying:
"There's no doctor in our village, but we have an Alchemist. Perhaps he can help you."
Luon quickly expressed his thanks.
"Then could you please tell us where the Alchemist lives? We'd be incredibly grateful!"
"No problem, I'll take you there myself."
The man led the two into the village.
After walking for about five minutes,
they stopped in front of a dilapidated wooden hut.
"Thorn! Are you home? I've brought two children to see you!"
A moment later,
the wooden door of the hut creaked open.
An elderly man in somewhat worn clothes emerged from inside.
"What's all the racket, you fool!"
Hearing this, the man who had brought Lu Chen and Luon instantly flared up.
"You old scoundrel! Who are you calling a fool? You're the fool! Your whole family are fools!"
"I have no children. Everyone in the village is my family. So that makes you part of my family too. Calling you a fool isn't wrong then, is it?"
Thorn said with a beaming smile.
The man, named Cologne, flushed red with anger but found himself at a loss for words.
He could only snort coldly and say:
"I found these two kids at the village entrance. This one is seriously ill. I brought them here hoping you could see if you can treat him."
Thorn's gaze fell upon Luon and Lu Chen.
It was as if he had discovered two uncut pieces of raw jade.
His eyes instantly lit up.
"Cologne, you can go now. I'll take it from here."
Cologne looked at Thorn's suddenly and excessively enthusiastic face, his heart filled with doubt.
But he turned and left anyway.
He trusted this old man; otherwise, he wouldn't have brought the two children here.
After Cologne left, Thorn warmly invited the two inside.
The interior of the wooden hut was cluttered with all sorts of strange and unusual instruments.
The air was thick with the scent of medicinal herbs.
Thorn pointed to a bed in the room and said,
"Help your friend lie down on the bed. I'll go get some medicine for you."
Luon supported Lu Chen as he slowly lay down on the bed.
Thorn turned and went into the inner room to fetch the medicine.
"I'm sorry, Lu Chen... It's all because of me you've suffered so much..."
Lu Chen's body had grown even weaker.
"Don't... don't say that..."
He forced out the words with difficulty.
After a while,
Thorn came out from the inner room carrying a bowl.
"Have your friend drink this decoction. He'll recover very soon."
Luon immediately took the bowl, carefully examining the liquid inside.
The decoction was blood-red in color and emitted a peculiar medicinal fragrance.
To ensure the decoction was safe, Luon first cautiously took a tiny sip.
The taste wasn't bad.
He waited quietly for a moment, feeling no discomfort in his body.
Only then did he feel reassured and feed the decoction to Lu Chen.
He felt a bit guilty.
Clearly, his earlier action had been an act of suspicion towards Thorn.
After Lu Chen finished the decoction,
it wasn't long before he fell into a deep sleep.
Luon looked at Thorn and said sincerely:
"Thank you, sir. And... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have doubted you earlier."
Thorn hadn't spoken a word the entire time.
He had merely watched the two of them with a smile.
"It's alright, child. Let's have a chat. Tell me about yourselves."
Luon sat down on a stool nearby.
"My name is Luon. He is my sworn brother, Lu Chen. We come from a faraway place, fleeing from enemies. That's all I can say."
Luon said nothing more.
Thorn smiled and changed the subject.
"Alright then, how about we discuss a deal?"
Luon looked at Thorn with confusion.
"What kind of deal?"
"I can see that both of you possess talent for Cultivation. Would you like to stay? I can provide you with food and shelter, and I can even teach you the methods of Cultivation."
"In exchange, once your strength has improved somewhat, you'll help me gather herbs in the mountains and assist the villagers with hunting. How about it? Do we have a deal?"
Luon wasn't surprised that the other could discern their Cultivation talent.
It wasn't a difficult thing to perceive.
Only, the other likely didn't know exactly what Rank their talent was.
