494: Chapter 497 The Nameless Sword

He rubbed his hands together, looking utterly greedy.

Lu Chen cursed inwardly.

"What a greedy fellow."

Yet, a smile remained plastered on his face.

"Big Brother, what do you mean by that? I am just a child. All of you are so tall and strong, yet you have the nerve to ask me for money? Back where I come from, even a Beggar wouldn't beg money from a child. How much does Big Brother want?"

The crowd burst into laughter.

"Charles, you little brat, you're even worse than the Beggars back home! Hurry up and say it, how much money do you want from him?"

Cologne couldn't help but tease the young man named Charles.

Charles's face flushed bright red, and he couldn't utter another word.

"Alright, Lu Chen, do you have anything you need to bring? We should get going."

Lu Chen had nothing in his hands and needed nothing to carry.

The group immediately set off.

The town wasn't too far from the village; a round trip only took a day.

So, he hadn't told Luon.

They set off in the morning, and the journey was relatively peaceful.

They encountered neither bandits nor Yao Beasts.

Five hours later, the group arrived smoothly at the town.

The town's scale was much larger than the village's.

Cologne cautioned him.

"Lu Chen, we are leaving the town in the evening. You must return here before sunset."

"Got it."

Lu Chen responded, turned, and vanished into the crowd.

"Cologne, why are you so good to this kid? Does he remind you of your deceased son?"

Someone standing nearby asked.

The smile on Cologne's face instantly vanished.

He didn't answer, just said in a deep voice, "Don't waste time, let's go."

Lu Chen wandered aimlessly on the street.

He was calculating how to exchange the gold coins for silver coins without drawing attention.

He was too young; even if he wore a mask, people could tell he was a child at a glance.

However, he now possessed the strength of Thirty Dragon Elephants.

Even if he attracted a little attention, there was nothing to fear.

Despite this, he still asked a few passersby for directions.

He asked which blacksmith shop in town was the most honest and reputable.

He figured that if he exchanged money with an honest person, the chance of the other party becoming greedy upon seeing the gold coins would be smaller.

Of course, if the other party truly dared to harbor ill intentions, he wouldn't mind teaching them how to behave.

He bought a mask on the roadside and put it on.

He walked straight toward the blacksmith shop.

The shop was filled with all sorts of weapons.

"Boss, show me the best sword you have in your shop."

The owner of the blacksmith shop was an old man. He sized up Lu Chen from head to toe.

Seeing his tattered clothes, he couldn't help but frown.

"Little fellow, are you sure you can afford the best sword I have? Why don't you look over there? Those are cheaper. Also, why are you wearing a mask?"

"Boss, you don't need to worry about the money. Just bring out the best sword."

The old man pursed his lips, said nothing more, and turned to walk into the back room.

Not long after, he came out holding something wrapped in black cloth.

He slowly unwrapped the black cloth, revealing a completely black scabbard.

The hilt was also black, yet it faintly exuded a chilling aura.

Even under the light, it shimmered with a faint, eerie glow.

Lu Chen fell in love with the sword at first sight.

"You can draw it out and try for yourself."

Lu Chen unhesitatingly reached out and gripped the hilt, intending to draw the sword from its sheath.

The old man sneered inwardly.

"Kid, now I'll know if you genuinely want to buy a sword or if you're just looking for trouble. As long as you have the slightest bit of doubt in your heart, you won't be able to pull this sword out."

But what he never expected was that Lu Chen easily drew the sword out.

It was no different from drawing an ordinary iron sword.

"How is that possible?! Everyone who comes to my shop asking to see the best sword, I let them try this one, but no one has ever been able to draw it! How could this poor kid do it so easily?"

The old man was so shocked his eyeballs nearly popped out.

"Boss, is this the best sword in your shop? Name a price."

The old man finally snapped back to reality and said through gritted teeth.

"Five thousand gold coins."

Lu Chen heard it as "five thousand silver coins."

He immediately widened his eyes.

"You old man, why don't you go rob your own father? It's just a broken sword, how dare you ask for five thousand silver coins? Are you messing with me?"

The old man was so angry his mustache bristled, and his face turned crimson.

"You little punk, how dare you call me old man? I'll say it again, this sword sells for five thousand gold coins, not silver! I knew a pauper like you couldn't afford it long ago. Hurry up and pick some cheap broken sword over there and scram, consider it a gift from me, no charge!"

Lu Chen sucked in a cold breath.

Five thousand gold coins.

That price was simply outrageous.

"What's so special about this broken sword? If you're really such a good blacksmith, why don't you go develop in a big city?"

He asked persistently, unwilling to give up.

"This sword wasn't forged by me; it was left behind by a nameless swordsman. He instructed that this sword must be sold at this price. If you buy it, pay the money. If not, hurry up and get lost!"

Lu Chen sighed.

He naturally wanted to buy the best sword for Luon.

"Fine, I'll buy it."
