13: recruit

“I am a Seeker from the Darkshade Society.”

“Darkshade Society?” Shi Yan asked, puzzled.

“The Darkshade Society is the organization responsible for guiding newcomers like you.”

Shi Yan nodded. It seemed there were quite a few awakened individuals in this world.

“How did you know I was here?”

“Our society has awakened individuals specialized in detecting energy fluctuations. Once I sensed a fluctuation from your location, I immediately rushed over.”

“Thank you for your answer. Now… it’s time to settle the score for you barging into my room without permission.”

Shi Yan’s right arm suddenly stretched several times its length, his palm grabbing fiercely towards the young man’s head with a sharp, piercing whoosh.

“You’re asking for death. Don’t blame me then.”

The young man’s muscles tensed all over, and he raised his right hand, shooting out a ball of black Gloom Gas. The gas swirled continuously, and faint wails could be heard from within. Shi Yan used Elementary Head Transformation on his head, and the black mist passed right through him.

“How is that possible?!”

The young man’s last words were cut short as his head suddenly vanished from its place. A large amount of fresh blood spurted from the severed neck, and the headless body slowly fell to the ground.

“So weak, yet he likes to act tough.”

Shi Yan shook his head.

Shi Yan reached out and touched the black crystal that appeared on the young man’s corpse.

Abilities: Elementary Head Transformation, Intermediate Bloodline Control, Intermediate Panel Enhancement, Elementary Shadow Transformation, Moon Power (cannot be upgraded), Elementary Pill Control Crafting, Elementary Gloom Gas.

The Gloom Gas was the gas the young man had just shot out; its attack power and speed were both mediocre.

Shi Yan merely glanced at it and paid it no mind.

Just then, a knock on the door suddenly sounded.

“Hello, we are from the Security Department.”

The Security Department was the official organization of this world, responsible for maintaining national and social peace.

Upon hearing this, Shi Yan raised an eyebrow, retracted his grotesque, enlarged arm, and slowly walked over to open the door.

Outside the door stood one woman and two men. The woman was the one who had just spoken. She stood in the very center, clearly the leader of the group.

The woman had ‘Lv4’ above her head, and the two men had ‘Lv3’ above theirs.

The woman had long, wavy golden hair and wore a black jacket, her chest prominently accentuated.

Her eyes seemed to speak; large eyes, cherry lips, possessing the charm of a mature woman.

When the woman saw the corpse in the room, she merely raised an eyebrow slightly, then seemed to notice something else and ignored it. The two men beside her, however, became wary as if facing a formidable enemy.

“Is there something I can help you with?”

Shi Yan smiled faintly, his black fringe slightly obscuring his handsome face, and his black eyes were incredibly deep.

After multiple physical enhancements, Shi Yan’s body had reached a height of 1.9 meters. Standing there, even doing nothing, he exuded an extremely strong sense of oppression.

The bloodstains in his right palm, combined with the headless corpse in the room, made the surrounding air grow increasingly dense and the environment more eerie.

“Don’t be so nervous, we mean no harm.”

The woman gave a playful smile, her mature face combined with that charmingly naive gesture creating a strong contrast.

“The Darkshade Society is a notorious evil organization in the civilian sector. They often secretly abduct awakened individuals when they are unprepared. Those who are captured will have various restrictions placed upon them and eventually become their slaves.”

“You must have seen through his trick, which is why you killed him. This is a good deed for the people, you know.”

“So?”

Shi Yan’s expression remained unchanged as he looked at the woman with curiosity.

A hint of awkwardness flashed across the woman’s face, then she composed herself.

“So, we formally invite you to join our Security Department and protect social peace together.”

“You don’t think I’d just work for you for free, do you? Say something practical.”

A hint of disdain flashed across Shi Yan’s face.

“Uh… We will provide you with various data from Slaughter Paradise, and you can also exchange materials at the Security Department according to your needs.”

Shi Yan showed a look of understanding. It seemed this Slaughter Paradise was quite well-known.

“Forget it, I’m not interested in these things.”

“Alright, we understand.”

The woman sighed and was about to leave with her people.

“Wait a moment, help me dispose of this. Consider it a contribution to your performance.”

Shi Yan pointed to the corpse. He was too lazy to deal with another corpse.

“No problem.”

The woman nodded. Just as Shi Yan said, this counted as a performance achievement for them, as members of the Darkshade Society were already wanted.

The two men behind the woman entered the living room and together lifted Shi Yan’s body. The woman threw a small capsule to Shi Yan.

“This is a small item with a cleansing spell. It can help you clean up the stains in your room. Consider it a reward for sending us this performance.”

The woman blinked, pointing to the blood near where the corpse had fallen.

“Thank you.” Shi Yan’s lips curved slightly, and his handsome face, no longer so cold, gave off a refreshing feeling.

The woman was momentarily stunned, then she shook her head and recovered, telling Shi Yan the Security Department’s phone number.

“If anything happens in the future, you can call us to inform us. In return, we will also tell you some things about Slaughter Paradise.”

The woman said earnestly.

After the two men carried the corpse out of the room, Shi Yan closed the door and began cleaning the room. After cleaning, he sat on the sofa.

It was already past midnight. Shi Yan hadn’t rested for two days, and coupled with the various battles in the instance, even though his body had greatly improved, he still felt waves of fatigue. After all, the body might not be tired, but the mind would be.

Shi Yan turned and went back to the bedroom to sleep.

Sunlight shone through the curtains onto Shi Yan’s face. Shi Yan slowly opened his eyes and sat up. After some thought, he decided not to go to school.

Shi Yan summoned his system panel. Below the regular store, there was also a forum option.

Shi Yan opened the forum.

Slaughter Paradise had a dedicated forum, and this was Shi Yan’s first time opening it.

The posts on the forum were constantly changing, with a large number of new posts appearing every moment. However, because he could only see things posted by players below Lv4, they actually had no value.

Shi Yan immediately exited and continued to browse other posts.
