10: Chapter 10: Making a Move!
"Clang!"
Wang Yalan's eyes widened in shock, and the kitchen knife in her hand clattered to the ground.
She looked at the fallen zombie in disbelief, then followed the trajectory of the bullet to its source.
There, on the high Blockhouse, a tall, upright figure was poking his head out, peering toward her.
"Hey! You're not dead yet, are you?"
Hearing that voice, which was concerned yet slightly mocking, Wang Yalan felt a lump form in her throat, and tears fell uncontrollably once again.
"No... I'm fine!"
Wang Yalan's voice trembled as she spoke with difficulty.
"What? Are you okay or not? If you've been scratched by a zombie, just stick your head out. I'll give you a shot; consider it a mercy killing!"
The distance was too great; Chen Ze couldn't hear what she said at all, so he just shouted back blindly.
"I'm fine, I wasn't bitten!"
This time, Wang Yalan practically roared, her voice ringing out clearly.
"Oh, that's good!"
In the moments just before, Chen Ze had used forty or fifty bullets, finally clearing out the zombies on his side.
Just as he turned around, he happened to catch that thrilling scene.
"This young woman really has good luck. With my marksmanship, to land a headshot on a zombie from dozens of meters away? That's a bit absurd~"
Chen Ze muttered to himself, but then he called out a reminder.
"Hey, what's-her-name, where's Yang Wei? Is he dead?"
"Let me make this clear in advance: you have to kill zombies yourselves. You can't rely on me entirely; my bullets are very precious!"
Upon hearing this, Wang Yalan laughed through her tears.
Yes, bullets were certainly precious in this apocalypse, but who was it that just said they would use one to put her out of her misery?
It seemed this man before her was cold on the outside but warm on the inside—at the very least, he was ten thousand times more reliable than that animal, Yang Wei!
"Okay! Thank you!"
Wang Yalan wiped away her tears, bowed deeply toward the Blockhouse, and then began rummaging through cabinets to find a suitable weapon.
The glass in their home had long since shattered, and even with a door in between, Yang Wei could hear their conversation clearly.
He tiptoed to the lock, opened it, and gently cracked the door open.
Through the crack, Yang Wei saw a zombie lying quietly in the living room, and Wang Yalan had already found a weapon—his golf club.
Wang Yalan was gripping the club with both hands, smashing the head of a zombie outside the window repeatedly, dark green blood splattering all over her.
Furthermore, the gunfire from outside seemed to be firing in this direction as well.
"Bang! Bang!~"
Every gunshot was accompanied by a zombie's roar or a collapse, and their numbers were decreasing rapidly.
He glanced at the Fortress data; the durability was at 15 points. At this rate, they might actually be saved!
"This kid must have taken a liking to my wife. Hmph, I knew there was something going on between them!"
At this moment, Yang Wei was absolutely certain that his wife had something going on with Chen Ze. Otherwise, who would waste such precious bullets over a bag of snacks?
A profit-driven person like him certainly wouldn't.
But then a thought occurred to him: if he could use his wife to latch onto Chen Ze, wouldn't he be able to move into the Blockhouse too?
"Anyway, I don't have the ability to use her, so letting someone else use her... I suppose... that wouldn't be impossible."
It must be said that Yang Wei was truly the most tolerant man since Han Xin, Gou Jian, and Jia Nailiang; such a thought was truly explosive in the world of cuckolds.
"Xiao... Xiaolan, I just went into the room to look for a weapon, so I was delayed. Are you okay? I'm coming to help you right now!"
Yang Wei tried to find an excuse for his earlier cowardice, his eyes darting around.
Wang Yalan turned her head slightly, her eyes filled with disgust and disdain.
"Heh, looking for a weapon?"
She swung the club again, smashing it hard onto the head of a zombie trying to approach, the splattering gore nearly hitting Yang Wei's face.
Yang Wei was startled and stumbled back. When he recovered, he realized Wang Yalan was staring at him coldly.
"After tonight, you go your way, and I'll go mine!"
"Huh? Xiaolan, you're just angry right now, don't talk nonsense!"
Yang Wei panicked. He had just planned that as long as he offered his wife to Chen Ze, he would definitely be able to live the high life in the future.
Now, if Wang Yalan quit, his wishful thinking would all come to nothing.
"Xiaolan, I admit I was scared just now, but... but haven't I come out to fight alongside you now?"
"Have you forgotten? I used to unconditionally support..."
"Shut up!"
Yang Wei tried to continue, but was sharply interrupted by Wang Yalan.
"Everything you gave me in the past, I've already paid back!"
Wang Yalan knitted her brows, her eyes full of determination.
"For so many years, even though we are over twenty years apart in age, I have served you without a single complaint. But today, I have finally seen your true colors. You, Yang Wei, are a coward who lives up to your name—a piece of trash!"
Her words tore open Yang Wei's scars. Even though he was usually very tolerant, he couldn't help but flush red with anger, a flash of fury in his eyes.
"You stinking bitch! What the hell did you say?"
Yang Wei pointed at Wang Yalan, stepped forward, and raised his hand high, making a move to slap her.
But right at that moment, he froze.
Because he saw Wang Yalan's icy gaze and the golf club gripped tightly in her hand.
Yang Wei locked eyes with Wang Yalan, his raised hand frozen in mid-air.
He finally realized that the Wang Yalan before him was no longer the woman he could manipulate at will. Under the cruel baptism of the apocalypse, she had transformed.
"Heh, coward!"
Wang Yalan dropped only this one word before turning back to continue fighting the zombies, her contempt for Yang Wei evident.
"Gulp!"
Yang Wei swallowed hard. At that moment, he had been truly scared. If this stinking bitch had actually hit him—given her ruthless streak—wouldn't he have ended up black and blue?
"Hmph, stinking bitch! You think you can kick me to the curb just because you've found a backer? Everyone in this residential complex knows you're my wife. Even in this apocalypse, I want to see if Chen Ze dares to take you in while bearing the infamy of ten thousand people!"
Thinking of this, Yang Wei plopped down on the sofa, crossed his legs, and looked at Wang Yalan with a smug expression.
"Little brat, you think you can fight me with your level of skill? I've eaten more salt than you've eaten rice."
"And that Chen Ze, wanting to mess with my, Yang Wei's, wife? Just wait until I make you pay a heavy price!"
