24: Chapter 24 Colluding with each other, each harboring their own ulterior motives

A crowd of people swarmed out and immediately spotted Yang Wei, who was grinning from ear to ear.

Upon hearing footsteps, the latter turned his head and was so startled that he stumbled.

"Holy crap! Where did all these people come from?"

Yang Wei looked in terror at the group of people charging over like wolves and tigers. His heart skipped a beat, and he silently cursed, realizing that these people were definitely here to steal his materials; it had to be that.

"Yang Wei, instead of resting early in the morning, why are you sneaking around near our Fortress?"

The one who spoke was naturally Guo Changzheng. His triangular eyes glinted with shrewdness, and a smile hung on his lips.

"Ah? That..." Yang Wei was momentarily tongue-tied by the sudden question.

He wasn't stupid enough to say he had been collecting materials all the way here. If he did that, he likely wouldn't be able to keep the materials he had obtained.

"Oh my, Manager Guo, you scared me!" Yang Wei feigned calmness, his eyes darting around as he instantly thought of an excuse.

His face fell instantly, and he looked as if he were about to cry.

"Manager Guo, you have to stand up for me! That Chen Ze, that son of a bitch, he forcibly took my wife and even stole my heart of the fortress."

After Yang Wei finished speaking, a few crocodile tears rolled down his cheeks, giving him an appearance of having suffered immense grievances.

"Chen Ze? That young man in the Blockhouse?"

"This is too much! It's only the second day of the apocalypse, and he's already started forcing himself on women. What will happen later?"

"Damn it, yesterday we didn't have weapons, which is why his sneak attack succeeded. Today we have crossbows, let's find a way to kill him!"

The crowd chattered away, immediately led astray by Yang Wei.

Guo Changzheng swept a glance over the crowd, inwardly cursing them as a bunch of brainless fools.

It was obvious that Yang Wei was trying to change the subject, and these useless people actually believed him.

He pressed his hand down, signaling the crowd to be quiet, and then spoke.

"Yang Wei, you say Chen Ze occupied your wife and house, but this is the apocalypse now. I'm just a property manager; how can I manage that much?"

"I'm afraid even the police can't take care of themselves now. We can only protect the companions who are surviving with us. As for your matter..."

Guo Changzheng stopped midway, folded his arms across his chest, and just looked at the other party indifferently, that faint, elusive smile still hanging on his lips.

The crowd also realized instantly that Guo Changzheng wanted Yang Wei to take the initiative to join them, at which point the materials Yang Wei had collected would naturally become theirs.

"Exactly! It's the apocalypse now, and Yang Wei, you aren't with us. Why should we go against Chen Ze for you?" Security Captain Lei Dayong spoke up.

"We saw you collect quite a few good things just now, hand them over! Once you become one of our own, Manager Guo can help you!" Sister Hong reached out without ceremony, the greed in her eyes undisguised.

Upon hearing this, Yang Wei had already cursed Sister Hong's entire family a thousand times over in his heart. It seemed that his collection of materials earlier had already been discovered by them.

He could only suppress his anger and force a smile that looked worse than crying as he looked at Guo Changzheng.

"Haha, that's only natural, that's only natural!" He immediately took out a dozen or so materials.

"As long as everyone can accept me and help me kill that brat Chen Ze, these materials will serve as my gift for joining. I hope Manager Guo and all my brothers and sisters won't look down on them."

As Yang Wei spoke, he watched Guo Changzheng's expression out of the corner of his eye.

Guo Changzheng looked at those dozen or so materials but did not put them away immediately.

His face still wore that mocking, smiling expression, while he mentally calculated how many more good things Yang Wei was hiding.

"Yang Wei, this gift of yours is somewhat sincere. But with so many of us, to deal with Chen Ze, I'm afraid these materials aren't quite enough."

Yang Wei's heart tightened, and he inwardly cursed Guo Changzheng for being insatiably greedy.

Damn it, before the apocalypse, this little property manager wasn't even fit to carry my shoes, and now he's actually riding on my head!

They are all people who eat others without spitting out the bones!

Although he was completely unwilling in his heart, his face only stiffened for a moment before he put on a fawning smile again.

"Haha, Manager Guo, you truly have a discerning eye. Originally, I wanted to keep some to trade for food and drink, but since it's like this, I'll hand it all over!"

This time, Yang Wei took out another twenty-something pieces of various materials.

Seeing this, Guo Changzheng did not continue to pressure him. The meat was already in his pot; once Yang Wei joined their team, the supplies in his hands would sooner or later be his.

He stepped forward and grabbed Yang Wei's hand.

"Brother Yang Wei, don't be a stranger. From now on, we are family, and we will face the apocalypse together!"

Guo Changzheng's face was filled with fake enthusiasm as he held Yang Wei's hand tightly, his triangular eyes squinting into slits as if he truly regarded Yang Wei as a close brother.

"Everyone listen up, from today on, Yang Wei is a member of our team. From now on, we share both blessings and hardships!"

"As for that Chen Ze!" Guo Changzheng paused, his triangular eyes narrowing slightly.

"Hmph! Let him jump around for a few more days. Once we've gathered enough weapons and ammunition, we'll settle old and new scores together!"

Over at Chen Ze's side.

"Achoo!" "Who is cursing me behind my back?"

Chen Ze naturally didn't know that his two enemies had already colluded and formed an alliance.

At this moment, he was observing the surrounding situation from the top floor of the Blockhouse.

Two scorching suns hung high in the sky, the air was slightly distorted by the heat, and the gray, dusty ground was baked until it cracked.

Dozens of Fortresses were scattered sparsely, and occasionally, some people could be seen moving among them, presumably still holding a glimmer of hope, attempting to scavenge some materials from the destroyed Fortresses.

But clearly, they were destined to be disappointed. During the time Chen Ze was observing, three or four groups of people had already left one after another, dejected, presumably having found nothing.

"This hellish weather seems even hotter than yesterday!"

Chen Ze wiped the sweat from his forehead and took out his mobile phone.

The battery was running low, and the screen showed that the outdoor temperature had reached 35 degrees.

This temperature didn't seem too high, but this was an otherworldly world. There was no electricity, air conditioners and fans couldn't be used, and even the tall Blockhouse was incredibly stuffy, not to mention those single-story buildings with floors directly exposed to the sun.

The chat channel had already exploded, with countless survivors cursing.

"Damn it! High temperatures during the day, zombies at night! How is anyone supposed to live like this!"

"Everyone, please help me. Does anyone have ice cubes? Trade some to me. My child is only three years old and has already fainted from the heat!"

"Ice cubes? The power went out when we transmigrated yesterday. My fridge has already started leaking water; where would I get ice cubes?"

"Quick, use a wet towel to wipe the child's body; that will cool them down!"

"Who has enough water? I really can't stand the heat anymore. Please support me!"
