29: Chapter 29 The Mob
"Damn it! We've been spotted! It's that bitch Wang Yalan!" Yang Wei cursed viciously, the veins on his forehead bulging.
He hadn't expected that despite hiding so effectively, his plans would be ruined by this traitorous woman!
He jerked his head up, looking toward a low earthen slope not far away, his eyes filled with panic.
In the shadow of the earthen slope, several figures stood silently; the leader was none other than the former property manager, Guo Changzheng.
The latter was currently glaring viciously at Yang Wei, his suspicion undisguised, even carrying a hint of coldness.
That gaze was like a poisoned blade, stabbing straight into Yang Wei's heart.
Guo Changzheng suspected him!
Yang Wei's heart skipped a beat, and he hurriedly lowered his voice.
"Manager Guo, it wasn't me! I didn't expect that cheap woman to use a searchlight!"
Guo Changzheng didn't respond to this, instead speaking in a deep, heavy voice.
"Since we've been spotted, there's no point in hiding. As long as Chen Ze hasn't crawled into that Blockhouse, with so many of us here, why the hell should we be afraid of that little punk!"
Instantly, over a dozen figures appeared one after another; Sister Hong, Security Captain Lei Dayong, and the others were all there.
"Right! Brothers, let's go together, kill him, and take his Blockhouse!"
Security Captain Lei Dayong spoke up.
He held a pitch-black hand crossbow, lying prone on the roof of Yang Wei's house, aiming toward Chen Ze's location.
"You little punk, without that turtle shell, I'll turn you into a hedgehog!"
Security Captain Lei Dayong's original position had remained hidden, but as soon as he spoke, he was immediately spotted by Wang Yalan on the Blockhouse.
She didn't have time to think, gripping the searchlight joystick tightly with both hands and yanking it toward the source of the sound.
With a "click," a ghastly, blinding beam of light instantly shifted direction, piercing straight toward the roof of Yang Wei's house like a sharp arrow!
Under the intense light, Security Captain Lei Dayong's hunched figure had nowhere to hide.
On Chen Ze's side, the moment Wang Yalan spoke, he instinctively tensed up!
His three-dimensional attributes had surged to nearly 20 points, making his anticipation of danger far exceed that of an ordinary person.
The instant he heard the words "there's an ambush," he didn't hesitate to drop low, lunging toward a broken wall on his right.
"Whoosh!" Almost the instant his body left the ground, a crossbow bolt whistled through the air, grazing his shoulder and "thudding" into the spot where he had just been.
"Damn it! He dodged it."
Security Captain Lei Dayong was still cursing, unaware that he had completely infuriated Chen Ze.
"You are courting death!"
Chen Ze narrowed his eyes, a terrifying chill surging within them, like an enraged beast.
His 19-point perception attribute allowed him to clearly pinpoint the direction of the crossbow bolt, and the searchlight's intense beam left Security Captain Lei Dayong with nowhere to hide on the roof.
He didn't give his opponent a second chance to reload. Gripping the arisaka type 38 rifle in his right hand, he followed the trajectory of the pale light beam and precisely aimed at the hunched figure.
Chen Ze's movements were lightning fast; he skillfully pulled the bolt and fired.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Three consecutive bullets tore through the night, whistling through the air.
On the roof, Security Captain Lei Dayong had just gritted his teeth to load a second bolt and was preparing to aim again, but the blinding searchlight prevented him from opening his eyes. Before he could react, the hail of bullets had already swept toward him.
"It's over!"
Almost the moment this thought arose, a string of bullets struck his body.
Flesh and blood splattered, bone fragments flew everywhere.
Security Captain Lei Dayong was violently knocked backward by the impact of the bullets; the F-grade hand crossbow slipped from his hand and clattered as it rolled away.
He couldn't even manage a full scream before his body rolled down the slanted roof and slammed heavily onto the cracked ground.
Yang Wei, Sister Hong, and the others were instantly stunned, then a bone-chilling cold swept over them.
They had originally thought that with their large numbers and two E-grade bows, they could ambush Chen Ze.
But now, in just one encounter, the team's strongest fighter, Security Captain Lei Dayong, had been shot and killed without the slightest chance to resist!
Everyone felt a chill in their hearts, cold sweat running down their backs, and they couldn't stop their muscles from trembling slightly.
Cold! A fear from the depths of their souls, so cold that their entire bodies were shivering.
"Security Captain Lei Dayong is dead! He… he's a devil!"
Someone cried out in horror, their grand ambition from when they set out gone, wanting only to run away in terror.
"Chen Ze, we used to be neighbors! It was all Guo Changzheng; he made us come!"
"Right, right, right! It was all Manager Guo! We surrender! We're not fighting anymore!"
This group was just a ragtag bunch that Guo Changzheng had temporarily pulled together to make up the numbers, hoping to pick up some easy loot and supplies; they had no intention of risking their lives.
Most of them were unaware of how ruthless Chen Ze was, assuming he was just an ordinary person with good luck.
But after seeing Security Captain Lei Dayong shot into a sieve in an instant and fall to his death from the roof, everyone was scared out of their wits.
Any thoughts of taking the Blockhouse or splitting the loot were cast to the winds; right now, they only wanted to survive.
In an instant, the dozen or so aggressive men lost all morale. Some shrank back, some dropped the steel pipes and iron bars in their hands, and others turned and fled immediately.
Guo Changzheng's face turned livid. He raised the E-grade crossbow in his hand, fired a shot aimlessly in Chen Ze's direction, and hurriedly shouted.
"Don't panic! He only has one old-fashioned rifle! Charge! As soon as we get close, we can drown him with our spit!"
Everyone knew Guo Changzheng made sense, but Security Captain Lei Dayong's corpse nearby hadn't even cooled yet. That tragic sight was seared into everyone's mind; their feet felt like lead, and they couldn't bring themselves to charge forward.
They didn't even need to think about it—the first one to charge would definitely get a taste of lead.
Seeing that no one was moving, Guo Changzheng raised his crossbow and turned to aim it at Yang Wei.
"You lead the charge! Otherwise, I'll kill you right now!"
"Ah? No, no, no! Manager Guo, he has a gun! I'll die!"
Yang Wei cowered like a quail. As he spoke, he buried his head even lower, terrified that one of Chen Ze's bullets would blow his bald head off.
"Fuck off! Stop talking nonsense, or I'll kill you right now!"
Manager Guo was truly ruthless; he kicked Yang Wei's upturned backside, forcibly shoving him out of cover.
Almost at the same time.
"Bang!"
The gunshot rang out again!
This shot missed, striking the open ground two or three meters in front of Yang Wei and kicking up a large cloud of dirt.
"Ah! Don't kill me! Don't kill me!"
Yang Wei was scared out of his wits; he staggered and fell to the ground, his pants instantly soaking wet at the crotch.
"It's from the Blockhouse! That woman has a gun too!"
Someone with sharp eyes realized that it wasn't Chen Ze who had fired and called out a warning.
When everyone heard this, the little bit of courage Guo Changzheng had managed to stir up evaporated. The enemy had two guns—how could they possibly fight this?
"Run!"
This shout seemed to have a magical effect; everyone stopped caring about anything else and turned to flee.
"Fuck! A bunch of losers!"
Guo Changzheng cursed in anger, but now that these people had been scared out of their wits by Chen Ze, he had no choice but to figure out a way to escape himself.
He immediately crouched down, trying to use the cover to make his escape.
