Chapter 199 The Shocking Lu Family

Su Ze put away the mirror of surveillance, a trace of doubt lingering in his heart.

He didn't dwell on it, his figure weaving through the night like a ghost as he continued to collect supplies.

Another half hour passed, and he had swept through the entire campus, trading most of the supplies back to the Dormitory.

Having finished all this, he leisurely returned to the Dormitory building.

Meanwhile, at the top floor of the Global Financial Center.

In front of a massive floor-to-ceiling window, the Middle-aged man set down his binoculars.

Outside the window was the boundless night; in the distance, toward Jinghai University, lights were sparse and all was silent.

Maintaining an expressionless facade, he turned around and looked at Zheng Siyuan behind him.

“Are you sure your intelligence is correct?” the Middle-aged man spoke, his voice steady and carrying an indisputable authority.

“Just by observing him now, it's impossible to determine his strength.”

Hearing this, Zheng Siyuan hurriedly took a step forward, his face plastered with a fawning smile.

“Boss Lu, there's a high probability that there's no mistake in this matter.”

“My fiancée told me herself, and she even found a way to secretly confirm it. That Su Ze's basic combat power is only around sixty points—it's not nearly as mysterious as the rumors outside claim!”

The Middle-aged man was indeed Lu Jiaming.

He didn't immediately respond to Zheng Siyuan's words, but simply gave him a deep, scrutinizing look, as if trying to see through every thought in the depths of Zheng Siyuan's heart.

“Tell me one more time, who informed you?” Lu Jiaming asked, his voice calm, yet it made Zheng Siyuan's heart tighten.

“It was... it was Li Xinran, Boss Lu. You know, my fiancée.”

Zheng Siyuan's forehead sweated slightly; he knew Lu Jiaming was always rigorous and had extremely high requirements for the authenticity of intelligence.

“Is your relationship with your fiancée very good?” Lu Jiaming continued to ask, walking over to a sofa to sit down and gesturing for Zheng Siyuan to sit as well.

A flash of embarrassment crossed Zheng Siyuan's face, and he rubbed his hands unnaturally. “In the past... she always gave me the cold shoulder...”

“You know, she has that young mistress temper—very arrogant.”

“So that's changed now?” Lu Jiaming's brow arched slightly.

“Of course, Boss Lu,” Zheng Siyuan explained quickly, as if grasping at a lifeline.

“After all, it's the apocalypse now and living conditions are poor. As a woman, she's bound to be different.”

“She's living a very hard life now, and she even told me... that kid Su Ze was relying on his strength to try and force himself on her. Luckily, she was on her period and managed to escape, so she's begging me to go save her.”

Lu Jiaming pondered for a moment, his fingers lightly tapping the armrest of the sofa with a rhythmic sound.

He didn't comment directly on Zheng Siyuan's words, but instead looked at it from another angle: “Have you considered that this might be a trap?”

Zheng Siyuan's face stiffened instantly, but he then forced out a smile. “That... shouldn't be possible, right? Boss Lu, she's my fiancée; if she's not helping me, who else would she help?”

“Besides, she also said that before Su Ze annexed the Taoyuan Residential Area, he used a special Burst ability at a great cost. He's very weak now and can't use it a second time. Right now is his weakest moment—it's our best chance to strike!”

“Do you like her very much?” Lu Jiaming ignored Zheng Siyuan's explanation and suddenly asked a seemingly irrelevant question.

“But I usually see you bringing quite a few pretty female players to your room...”

“In fact, you were already a playboy before the apocalypse, weren't you?”

Zheng Siyuan felt embarrassed by the question, his cheeks flushing slightly, yet he also carried a hint of pride. “You're right, Boss Lu, but it's just... I've tasted all kinds of women over time, but I've never tried a woman as incredibly arrogant as Li Xinran.”

“That's why I'm desperate to get her... you understand.” As he spoke, he gave a smile that men would understand.

After hearing this, a faint, imperceptible smile appeared at the corner of Lu Jiaming's lips. “I see. Go back and rest for now. I'll find someone to verify the truth of your intelligence myself. For the time being, do not act rashly.”

“Yes! Boss Lu!” Zheng Siyuan felt as if he had been granted a reprieve; he bowed respectfully and withdrew.

Just as Zheng Siyuan left, a burly figure stepped out from behind a screen in the corner of the room.

It was the brawny man with a buzz cut.

He strode up to Lu Jiaming and said in a booming voice, “Boss, this Zheng Siyuan has no skills at all, and now he suddenly brings this intelligence—it's likely fake. I think he's being played like a fool by that Li Xinran girl without even knowing it. This kind of trash should just be killed to save us the eyesore.”

Lu Jiaming shook his head, showing no anger on his face. “I deliberately made him a confidant—isn't it so he can be the scapegoat when necessary? It would be a waste to kill him.”

The brawny man scratched his head upon hearing this. “Fine, Boss, whatever you say is right. But what about Jinghai University... what's the word?”

Lu Jiaming's originally relaxed expression gradually tightened, replaced by a deep hesitation and wariness.

He looked out the window toward Jinghai University, his gaze profound.

“This guy named Su Ze... he definitely hides a great secret. We cannot act rashly,” Lu Jiaming's tone became serious.

The brawny man frowned and asked in confusion, “How so? Boss, did you see something?”

Lu Jiaming turned around, looked the brawny man straight in the eye, and said word for word, “Have you ever seen someone move freely among a swarm of zombies without them attacking him?”

The brawny man froze for a moment, then felt a sense of absurdity. “That... how is that possible? Zombies only recognize the scent of living people; why wouldn't they attack?”

Lu Jiaming ignored the brawny man's doubt and continued.

“It's midnight, and others can't see clearly at all. But just now, through the binoculars, I saw it with my own eyes!”

His voice wasn't loud, but it was like a thunderclap exploding in the brawny man's ears.

The brawny man's pupils contracted sharply, his mouth hanging slightly open, but he couldn't make a sound.

How could this be possible?!

If it were said that Su Ze could fight his way in and out of a zombie swarm, he wouldn't be shocked at all.

After all, he had personally witnessed Su Ze's movement technique that was so fast it left only afterimages, and his terrifying combat power that could tear a person apart with one spear thrust; he was already mentally prepared for that.

But, to make a zombie swarm not attack him...

This completely exceeded the scope of their understanding!

Had he mastered some special skill?

Was he exploiting some kind of bug?

Or did he possess some special item?

Or was his strength simply so terrifying that even zombies without much intelligence avoided him?

All of this was unknown.

Lu Jiaming looked at the brawny man's shocked expression, but simply tapped the table lightly and said in a low voice.

“Therefore, regardless of whether Li Xinran's intelligence is true or false, we cannot fully believe it. Until we figure out Su Ze's trump cards, we must not act rashly.”

“This Jinghai University... might be far more dangerous than we imagined.”
