Chapter 53 Dormitory 811 on the verge of despair

Su Ze had no time to bother with those people's emotions.

He took the cold, glinting long spear out of his player inventory.

[Long Spear - Edge] drew a frigid arc in the dim corridor.

With the spear in hand, he felt a bit more at ease.

Heading all the way down, the corridor was empty, with only the echo of his own footsteps.

However, the moment he stepped onto the Eighth Floor, a faint stench of decay drifted into his nostrils.

The further he walked, the stronger the smell became.

Scattered zombies began to appear in the hallway.

Like the zombies elsewhere, they were all in a dormant state, standing motionless where they were.

But strangely, the distribution of these zombies was extremely uneven.

On the side near the stairs, there were very few zombies.

But as Su Ze ventured deeper, approaching the dormitories at the other end of the corridor, the number of zombies began to grow exponentially.

By the latter half of the corridor, the density of zombies had reached a terrifying level.

They were packed shoulder to shoulder, almost completely blocking the entire passage.

And every single zombie was facing the same direction.

Dormitory 811.

Su Ze stopped and observed the door from over ten meters away.

This door was completely different from the Level 2 Door of his own Dormitory.

The surface of the door was covered in a thick layer of metal, giving off a dull sheen in the dim light.

A Level 3 Gate!

Su Ze raised an eyebrow.

Interesting.

Besides himself, someone had actually managed to gather enough materials to upgrade to a Level 3 Gate at this stage.

It seemed they had scavenged a massive amount of resources before midnight fell.

However, this seemingly sturdy door looked quite battered at the moment.

The metal door panel was covered in dense dents and scratches.

There was even some dark red blood clinging to it, clearly having endured a night of frenzied siege.

This was enough to prove that while individual zombie attacks weren't strong,

many ants can devour an elephant; the continuous attacks would consume an astronomical amount of the door's durability.

How did the people in this Dormitory hold out?

By constantly repairing it with materials?

Or did they have some special defensive means?

Su Ze scanned the area but didn't find any defensive fortifications like turrets.

He decided to come back and check at night.

When midnight fell and these dormant zombies all woke up to attack, the people of Dormitory 811 would eventually reveal their trump cards.

Having made up his mind, he prepared to turn and leave.

After descending two floors, a sound of footsteps came from the stairwell. A tall male student leading several others walked up from below.

The boy in the lead had a face full of fatigue, but his eyes held a stubborn, unyielding grit.

He walked with a perfectly straight back, carrying a soldier-like demeanor even in the apocalypse.

The two parties met on the stairs.

Su Ze glanced at them, having no intention of interacting.

The other party clearly hadn't expected to see a lone traveler in the corridor either.

Especially when they saw the extraordinary long spear in Su Ze's hand, their eyes revealed a hint of wariness and surprise.

Since it was an item with an owner, they also couldn't see its specific stats.

But just looking at its smooth design and faint sharpness, they knew it was definitely no ordinary item.

The boy in the lead, Xu Feng, only looked at Su Ze once before withdrawing his gaze.

His brow furrowed deeper, and the worry in his eyes was almost overflowing.

He had no heart to pay attention to others right now.

Su Ze brushed past them without stopping, heading straight downstairs.

The group of boys continued upstairs.

They carefully avoided the zombies and opened the door to Dormitory 811 on the 8th floor.

As the door of Dormitory 811 was pushed open, a wave of heat mixed with the smell of sweat and a suffocating atmosphere hit them, and then the door was quickly closed again.

Inside the door.

Murky air mixed with the scent of sweat and food scraps rushed toward them.

In the room, the original three iron bunk beds had long since disappeared, clearly having been decomposed into materials.

Over a dozen people were lying haphazardly on the cold floor.

Each of them looked sickly and listless, clearly having just undergone a high-intensity scavenging trip with very little to show for it.

The entire Dormitory was actually packed with eighteen people!

In the corner, four girls sat on the only blanket. Their mental state seemed a bit better than the boys'.

One of them had messy, medium-short hair, a dirty face that was hard to see clearly, and a pair of heavy black-rimmed glasses.

She was looking down, intently wiping a dagger, paying no mind to those entering.

Seeing Xu Feng and the others return, the people lying on the ground immediately struggled to sit up.

“Brother Feng, how was it?” a boy asked urgently.

“Basically everywhere searchable outside has been picked clean by others,” Xu Feng's voice was hoarse. “There are far fewer supplies than yesterday.”

Hope was dashed once again.

Despair spread through the tiny Dormitory like a plague.

“It's over... it's completely over...”

“How can today's supply respawn be so much less than yesterday? Does this bullshit survival game just want us all dead?!”

“What if we go kill zombies? Let's kill zombies to earn copper coins! Then we can go to that Su Ze on the fourth floor to buy food!” someone suddenly suggested.

This suggestion was met with an even more desperate sneer.

“Buy? Buy with what? We don't even have enough Wood material to repair the door! Just to get through tonight, we need at least a hundred units of wood! How many zombies would that take? Nearly two hundred! And that's not even counting money for food!”

“Two hundred... are you kidding... we don't have enough weapons and time is tight, can we even kill that many?”

“It's a death loop, this is a fucking death loop!”

Just then, a boy sitting in the corner who hadn't spoken from the start suddenly stood up.

His name was Ling Hao, one of the original six members of this Dormitory.

His eyes were bloodshot as he pointed at the people who had been taken in later, roaring, “I knew we shouldn't have taken in you burdens! If we kick you all out now, at least the six of us might live!”

These words were like a thunderclap, exploding in the deathly silent Dormitory!

The faces of those he pointed at instantly became incredibly ugly.

“Ling Hao! What the fuck are you saying?!”

“Burdens? If we hadn't all gone out together to find materials, could this door have reached Level 3? We’d all be dead already!” a boy who had been taken in retorted angrily.

“Exactly! We haven't been eating and staying for free!”

Ling Hao seemed to have gone mad, laughing with a distorted face, “Level 3 Gate? If it wasn't for you people crowding in here, would the zombies outside be attacking us like they’re insane?!”

“Haven't you noticed? In this whole building, our Dormitory has the most zombies at the door! It's because we have too many people! We broke the game's six-person rule!! It's because of you that they were all attracted here!”

“It's all your fault!”

“Bullshit!”

“Get out! You bunch of ungrateful wolves!”

“You're the one who should get out!”

For a moment, the entire Dormitory was a chaotic mess of mutual accusations, insults, and even some shoving.

“Everyone shut up!”

A thunderous roar suppressed all the noise.

Xu Feng stood in the middle of the crowd, a terrifying fire burning in his bloodshot eyes.

“Do you want to wake up all the zombies outside?!”

Everyone was intimidated by his aura and instinctively shut their mouths.

Xu Feng's gaze slowly swept over everyone, finally landing on Ling Hao. His voice was cold enough to drop ice shards.

“And you, Ling Hao. I don't want to hear that kind of talk a second time.”

“Our former oath to protect our home and country—you haven't forgotten it, have you?”

“Now, even if we can't save everyone, we must do our absolute best to protect the classmates around us!”

“This is the apocalypse. The only thing we can rely on is unity! Not tearing at each other like mad dogs here!”

“If I hear anyone use the word ‘burden’ again, or try to kick a classmate out...”

Xu Feng paused and said word by word, “Then the first one to get the hell out will be him!”

For a moment, the Dormitory became so quiet that a pin drop could be heard.
