125: Chapter 125 Blood-Eyed Demon Wolf Pack

By the time the five of them left Jiang City, the sky was pitch black.

The city gate slowly closed behind them, the iron portcullis dropping with a dull thud.

Old Liu glanced back once before following the team as they plunged into the darkness.

Three li outside the city was the first defensive line against the beast tide.

To call it a defensive line was an understatement; it was actually an ocean of ferocious beasts.

Iron-Backed Wolves, Armor-Rending Tigers, and Shadow Leopards were packed densely together, stretching as far as the eye could see.

A thick, foul stench permeated the air, making their throats tighten.

One million.

That was the figure provided by the Scout Team.

And the five of them had to pass through this ocean of beasts.

Old Liu crouched behind a rock, poked his head out for a look, then pulled back, his face ashen.

"How the hell are we supposed to get through this?"

His voice was kept very low, carrying a hint of raspiness.

Chu Tianye poked half his head out and stared at the beasts for a while.

Five locators, five lives; if even one was lost, the mission would fail.

He turned to look at Lin Mo.

Lin Mo understood and stood up.

"I'll lure these beasts away. You guys find an opportunity to get through!"

"What are you doing?" Old Liu grabbed him. "Are you crazy? There are at least several thousand out there. You're going out there alone to die?"

Lin Mo shook off his hand and took a step forward.

Then, he vanished from the spot.

Instant Shadow.

The next second—

"Boom—!!!"

A burst of blue-gold lightning exploded at the rear of the beast pack!

The pillar of light pierced through fifty beasts, and the aftershock sent over a hundred more flying!

The roar of thunder was deafening, making the entire battlefield tremble!

"Roar—!!!"

The beast pack erupted, howling as they lunged toward Lin Mo's direction.

"Go!"

Chu Tianye stood up and waved his hand.

The four of them stayed low, slipping through the gap left by the beasts.

A continuous series of explosions echoed behind them.

"Rumble—!"

The lightning flashed repeatedly like distant bolts, illuminating half the sky.

That was Lin Mo drawing the fire for them.

After running for about a li, Lin Mo emerged from ahead.

There wasn't even a single claw mark on him.

He wasn't even out of breath.

Old Liu's eyes widened. "You're okay?"

"What could happen?"

Lin Mo patted the dust off his sleeves, his tone flat.

"Let's go."

Old Liu opened his mouth but swallowed his next words.

Damn, he'd forgotten the kid had spatial abilities. No matter how many beasts there were, they couldn't stop him; it really wasn't his place to worry.

Just then, Chu Tianye suddenly raised his hand to signal them.

"Quiet. It seems like something is following us."

His voice was very low, and his hand was already on the hilt of his blade.

They all stopped at once. Old Liu listened intently, and his expression changed. "It's not just one; it's a pack."

Lin Mo looked back.

The Eye of Sin-Eating swept across the darkness.

He saw dense white outlines closing in from all directions.

"They're waiting for us to enter the encirclement," Lin Mo said calmly.

"Can we break through?"

Lin Mo glanced around and shook his head. "It's too late."

No sooner had he spoken—

"Roar—!!!"

A roar erupted from the darkness!

A pack of beasts with crimson pupils surrounded them.

It was a pack of Tier 4 Ferocious Beasts, Blood-eyed Demon Wolves.

"Attack together!"

Lin Mo struck first, appearing in the middle of the wolf pack with a Flash. His combat blade transformed into a reaper's scythe, harvesting lives frantically.

Old Liu charged forward, slashing his blade at the head of the leading Blood-eyed Demon Wolf leader.

The blade sliced through the fur, leaving a wound deep enough to show bone, but the Blood-eyed Demon Wolf leader didn't fall. Instead, it grew even more frenzied and slammed its head into Old Liu's chest.

"Bang—!"

Old Liu let out a muffled groan and was sent flying, crashing into a rock as blood welled up in his mouth.

"Old Liu!"

Zhang Feng's eyes turned red as he rushed forward and slashed at the Blood-eyed Demon Wolf leader's neck.

But he used too much force, and the blade got stuck in the bone, unable to be pulled out.

The Blood-eyed Demon Wolf leader let out a shrill, pained howl and swiped back with its claws.

"Pfft—!"

Three bloody gashes erupted on Zhang Feng's shoulder, the flesh torn open to the bone.

Blood gushed out, instantly staining half of his clothes red.

Zhang Feng groaned, dropping to one knee, unable to even hold his blade steady.

"Zhang Feng!" Chu Tianye roared, lunging forward to plunge his blade into the Blood-eyed Demon Wolf leader's belly.

None of them had expected this Blood-eyed Demon Wolf leader to have the strength of the Early Tier 5. They had been careless just now, allowing the beast to injure two of them in succession.

However, no sooner had they dealt with the leader than the remaining Blood-eyed Demon Wolves charged forward like mad.

Old Liu lay on the ground, his chest hurting too much to breathe, but when he saw three Blood-eyed Demon Wolves pouncing on Zhang Feng simultaneously, he gritted his teeth and scrambled up.

Zhang Feng sat on the ground, using his still-functional right hand to hold his blade and block one pouncing wolf, but the other two had already reached him, opening their maws to bite.

He used his arm to jam a wolf's throat; its teeth tore through his skin, and blood splattered across his face.

The middle-aged man, He Tie, rushed over, slashing the two wolves away and pulling Zhang Feng up.

Old Liu retreated to their side, and the three of them stood back-to-back, surrounded by the wolf pack.

Chu Tianye blocked the front. His blade work was steady, each strike hitting a wolf's vital spot, but there were too many. As soon as he cut one down, two more would pounce. His left arm was bitten, and blood trickled down his sleeve.

Old Liu's arm was bleeding, Zhang Feng's shoulder was bleeding, and at some point, a gash had appeared on Old Sun's leg. The three of them leaned against each other, their blades feeling heavier and their breathing growing more ragged.

Lin Mo fought his way back from the pack, and seeing this scene, his gaze turned cold.

There were at least 200 Blood-eyed Demon Wolves in this pack, all of them Tier 4 Ferocious Beasts.

Although all five of them were Tier 5 Awakeners, against such a number of Blood-eyed Demon Wolves, they could only be suppressed.

Old Liu was injured, Zhang Feng was injured, and He Tie's leg was hurt. If this dragged on, it wouldn't just be a matter of injuries.

Lin Mo took a deep breath, his right hand forming a claw as blue-gold lightning began to condense in his palm.

Space began to tremble slightly, and pebbles floated up from the ground, suspended in mid-air.

"Lin Mo!" Chu Tianye roared. "What are you doing?"

"Clearing the field," Lin Mo said calmly.

"No!" Chu Tianye slashed down a pouncing wolf and retreated to his side, staring intently into his eyes.

"That move consumes too much energy. If you use it now, what about later? You must maintain your condition until the mission is complete!"
